Chapter 11 - CHAPTER 12

Zion rushed into the palace with Avian on his back all bloody, he knew Avian wouldn't die, but still, worry hit him as blood profusely gouged out of his dangling head that almost left his neck.

He put him in a bed of one of the rooms and rushed to call Onyx and Adina for help but thankfully saw them in the corridor.

"Whats wrong?" Onyx asked with creased brows as she saw the panicked face and bloody hands of Zion.

"Lothaire almost killed Avian." Zion said and as the words rolled off his lips, Adina's face twisted into a mixture of contempt and anger.

Onyx's eyes widened as she gasped in fright, she didn't know what she would have done if Lothaire killed Avian. They rushed into the room to see Avian half dead with his head almost falling off, Lothaire's claws had dug out more than half of his neck off.

Onyx saw the horrific image of Avian's almost lifeless body and tears filled the brim of her ocean blue eyes, she slumped to the ground beside Avian as she watched him heal more slowly than he ever had because of the condition. Adina wasn't a soft hearted person but she got angry that Lothaire had recklessly tried to kill Avian all in the name of sparring.

"What happened?" Adina asked Zion wanting to know what really happened that made Lothaire want to kill Avian so badly.

"Well..Avian threatened to kill Larisa, only because he wanted to prove how she made Lothaire weak." He said scratching the nape of his neck. Adina knew how reckless Lothaire was and knew how even more reckless the human girl had made him. She let out a deep sigh and left the room along with Zion giving Onyx some space as she was waiting for Avian to fully heal, she had the thought of taking it out with Lothaire but she knew better than to anger the devil's son because she could end up like Avian or worse.

Onyx sat beside Avian attending to his wound to make it heal faster, the tears that had threatened to fall now fell down her cheeks freely as she heard his rough unstable breath and very slow heart beat. Avian was her mate but he refused to mate with her because he knew that emotions especially the mating bond would weaken him, mentally and physically so he had always ignored her no matter how great the temptation was.

Larisa was feeling bad for how she had acted towards Lothaire, she had looked at him like a monster without meaning to do so. Fear had gripped her whole body the moment he turned into pure evil and when he almost ripped Avian's head apart. She had totally forgotten that he was from the source of evil itself and had only see his beautiful side because that was what she wanted to see.

She thought it would be a good idea to apologise, but for what? Been afraid of him or the fact that she forgot she was married to the devil's son and moreover, she couldn't figure out where he was.

She immediately realised how very different they both were and the thought immediately came to her that she would one day die and he'd still be here because he was immortal and fear gripped her that he would one day forget her, her body slightly trembled, she had never been so scared in her life, her stomach twisted and she felt sick .

She tried to calm her nerves down to stop thinking about too much things, she couldn't face him, she had seen the hurt in his eyes when he saw her horror filled face and she immediately made up her mind to check up on Avian to get her mind off him.

She left the room and strode down the hall, she asked a maid to take her to where Avian was and the maid obeyed. Her hand hovered above the door contemplating whether to go in or not but she knocked anyways.

"Come in." She heard Onyx's voice and she got relieved as she stepped into the room. Her eyes locked with Onyx's blue eyes which shimmered because of her tears, they were swollen around because of her crying for a long time and she felt bad seeing onyx like that, she must have cared a lot for him, but she felt worse when she saw Avian laying on the bed unmoving with a clawed out throat that slowly healed but still looked as bad as before.

Larisa couldn't imagine how painful it must have been, she immediately felt nauseous but she just averted her gaze to Onyx instead.

"I'm so sorry its all my fault, I've been nothing but trouble ever since I came here." Larisa apologised with a pained expression.

"Its not your fault, its no one's fault." Onyx voice was low but calm and she wondered how she could be this calm after she obviously cried her eyes out. Larisa pressed her lips in a thin line, she didn't say a word afterwards and left as she realized that she wanted to be alone with him.

Larisa went back to the room and slept off with heavy eyes and a heavy heart till nightfall.

Few hours later, she woke up only to see how dark the sky was because it was night time, making her a bit worried about Lothaire who was obviously nowhere in the room.

She made up her mind to search for him to make things between them good. She immediately came out and her eyes locked in with Valerie. The tall inhumanely beautiful lady walked up to her in slow but elegant steps.

She hadn't seen her in awhile and thought she wouldn't get to see her anymore but here she was with that stupid smugly look on her face.

"Miss me?" Valerie said in a rather mocking manner.

"Do you know where Lothaire is?" Larisa asked trying to ignore her. Valerie looked up as if she was thinking with a finger on her chin.

"Probably with his concubines, what else would he be doing?" Valerie's words hit Larisa like a dagger and she immediately stormed out on her. Valerie was satisfied that her words made an impact on her and she grinned despicably.

Larisa barged into the room obviously angered by her words as she sat abruptly on the bed, unaware of the golden eyes that watched her quietly from one corner of the room.

"Is he that mad at me? I doubt he's doing something like that." She shook her head in doubt as she whispered to herself laying on the bed while her thoughts wandered endlessly. The golden eyes quietly watched her as she cradled her body on the bed and put her head between her knees, Lothaire wondered what she was doing until he heard her faint sobs and he could see her body jerk up and down in motion as she let the tears fall freely and her sobs became heavier.

Larisa slowly let reality hit her that she and Lothaire could never be together, she was a mere human and he was an immortal, so what was the point of all this, she had always longed for something real and now she finally got it but it felt like a nightmare, she regretted coming here, there was no happy ending for her, no happy ending for them. The Emperials were right about them, they shouldn't be together, they couldn't be together.

Lothaire couldn't bear to see her in so much pain and he was fully to blame, if he had just ignored her the day she came to Empire D, she wouldn't be hurting so much and neither would he but he immediately regretted thinking he should have ignored her, she had been the best part of his life and he wouldn't regret a thing.

"Larisa." She heard the familiar voice call out her name and she froze, she stopped crying and her hurting only doubled. "I'm sorry." She heard him say and she almost pinched herself to know if she was dreaming but it was nothing like a dream.

His voice was filled with so much sincerity and remorse, her barrier she had built around her to stand her ground and make the right decision to go back home suddenly crumbled into ashes.

She slowly sat up, looking at him with reddened eyes.

"I'm the reason you're hurt, isn't it?" He said, more of a statement than a question.

"The Emperials are right, you almost killed Avian because of me and we can't even be together so whats the point." She said, she knew her words were a bit harsh but she wanted to stop living in a fairytale and start living in her reality. Lothaire's jaw ticked, he hated when people said that but when she said it, it sounded more terrifying to him and he didn't want to think of life without her for a second.

"I'll do anything. To make sure you never leave my side." His deep voice sounded so reassuring but how would he make a human like her live forever. She saw a dangerous glint in his eyes and knew that he would fulfill his promise, but how? It didn't make sense to her no matter how much she thought about it.

"That's impossible, I'm human." She said and he placed a finger on her mouth, silencing her.

"I'll never let you die while I'm still alive." No words had ever sounded so sincere in her ears until the ones that came out of his mouth at that moment and a wave of emotions hit her. Was there even the slightest hope for them?
