It had been 5 months and I had finally achieved level 20. It was mostly do to the rare grass the farmer's son kept bringing me. I started using the language settings to learn the language the Farmer and his family spoke. At first it was rough, but I got the hang off some of the words. One of which seemed to be related to me.
One word kept giving me confusing as it seemed to relate to some sort of other person. The farmer's son talked about it a lot. The word they use to describe them is not included in any entry I've gotten. However the person is described as a type of monster so I have yet to understand.
The Farmer's son took away the bucket. He was smiling far more than before. From what I understand I think the son has some sort of appraisal skill. Which meant it was possible for one to obtain some sort of skills or magic. It wasn't just the status menu that had some evidence.
I haven't gained any new skills since then, but more entries have been opened up. One of the entries was actually about skills which explained a lot. Skills could be obtained through training them. Or be gifted as a blessing or something. So basically I wasn't gonna get any.
I had a thought that maybe the kid was a tamer or something, but his dedication to swordsman ship told me otherwise. Back in my previous life I was a pretty good guesser so I think I had this one. I munched on more grass as I watched the Farmer go about his daily tasks. I blinked and decided to take a second to look back on what I knew.
The Farmer was some sort of knight or skilled adventure at least at some point in his life. The Wife seemed to be a highly skilled tailor. While the son trains to either be like is father or join the faction his father used to be a part of.
Said factions seems to be some religious one as they have a statue in there living room that they pray too sometimes. The statues share the same design as some of the other furniture and even the son's sword. So it seemed the family had something in common. Though I had no idea whether that was common.
All the animals even insects had some sort of self reflection. It was hard to notice at first, but sometimes the other cows would pause staring blankly. Not just like a normal animal staring either the farmer did the same before and I realized the cows were also using the menu. Though it seemed they used it more unintentional since they did it around the same time every day.
I stopped my thoughts as a man began walking down the path. He had a small bag with him except I watched him pull a box and some papers out of it as he walked. He smiled at me and waved as he shouted to the Farmer.
"Howdy! Madock, still tending to your livestock?"
My eyes widened as I realize I understood the man. The farmer responded, "Kaz Le Dean!"
"Here's your mail...." He looked over at me and seemed to think a second before speaking. "What a good looking cattle you have. Specially that calfling over there." I didn't even hear the farmer's unintelligible response as I watched the mailman.
"`It's a skill little calf, along with some mind reading.`" His mouth didn't move this time as he smiled.
He then turned back to the Farmer. "Welp I got more mail to deliver!"
His eyes matched mine as he spoke without a voice yet again. "`Knights are coming to take your... 'masters' away. Take what is in the package and run little calf. Maybe we will meet again.`"
He then walked away as I passed my eyes over the package the Farmer was now holding. The inflection in the mailman's voice sent a shiver down my spine. Clearly he knew a lot and I felt like I was an idiot. Yet another life I could live and sure I wanted peace, but...
Goblins showed up and attacked this farm whose to say a bigger monster wouldn't do the same. Honestly I only helped the Farmer's wife do to my own standards and somewhat simpish behavior. I was a fool, why was I being fed those rare grasses? If I had truly thought that the farmer's son had some kind of appraisal character. Did they know I had memories of a past life?
Clearly not with how they acted, and yet this Mailman clearly knew. Why warn me of these knights, but not the farmer? Suddenly I felt a pain in my head and a notfication appeared.
My head spun as a new notifications appeared.
I shook off the confusion and opened the entry for the new skill.
My eyes widened and shortened as everything began hitting me like a wave. The Farmer stared at me for a second and I responded with a simple noise. He shrugged and walked off. However my stomach twisted as I realized what the mailman had done to me.
The Farmer, The Wife and The Son were all monsters of some kind. I had no idea what they were, but the new skill I had gained itched at me telling that this was the truth. The Package was a Monster core of some kind and they were raising cattle as a pretense.
Truth was they were likely raising monsters, those goblins attacked likely because... because well I actually didn't know maybe there wasn't a reason to that. However the Knights that the mailman mentioned certainly did know the farmer and his family was monsters. Which were likely a part of some kind of cult maybe? I mean they fed me those rare grasses to turn me into a monster using the monster core.
If I had hands they would be on my fucking head due to the absolute confusion. I had to be ready to run. I can't stay here, if I did I had a bad feeling. I didn't want to suffer anymore, I had suffered enough in my past life. No more forced choices, I breathed out and in as I waited and stared at the trail that led to the farm.
