Sayanni Janae Wilson | Chicago IL
three days later
Sayanni ran around her apartment looking for her keys, cocomelon playing faintly in her room as she rummaged through her drawers, looking under her couch, her bed, in the bathroom. She had looked everywhere for those keys.
She grabbed her phone dialing her grandmother number, putting it to her ear waiting for the call to connect. It was around seven in the morning and Sayanni had to leave for school by 7:30.
They had a meeting with her guidance counselor a few weeks after Harmoni was born about bringing her to school but she would have to stay in the daycare the school provided, it was either that or enroll in a whole nother school and finish out the rest of the year.
Since Harmoni was still to young to be out and about in the streets, Sayanni would drop her off to her grandmothers until Harmoni was able to be outside more.
So that's what was gonna happen but they wouldn't be able to go anywhere if Sayanni couldn't find the keys. The phone rang about four times before Momma Joy answered sleep ridden through her voice.
"Momma have you seen my keys?" Sayanni asked as she poured everything out for Harmoni's diaper bag, looking through that as well. "Say I don't know where your keys are. Done thought something was wrong calling me this early in the morning." Momma Joy huffed over the other end.
"I know Momma but I got thirty minutes till we gotta go and I can't find my keys." Sayanni responded scratching her head beginning to chew on her bottom lip.
"Did you check in the door?" She inquired a taunting tilt to her voice. Sayanni turned her head to her front door, hanging in the keyhole were her keys shining in there pink case and naruto keychain glory.
She gasped quickly getting off the floor to grab them and hooking them onto the belt loop of her shorts. She sighed sitting back onto the floor and packing everything back into the diaper bag.
"Thank you imma call you when we get to school. You wanna see Moni?" She mentioned pressing the facetime button in the call, walking back into her room.
Harmoni was laying in one of her many bouncer making a mess of the toys she had strewn across the floor. She had just recently gotten into throwing things, anything she was able to grab would be across the room shortly after.
Putting the phone infront of Harmoni so her grandmother can see her watching them interact, Harmoni instantly smiling once she heard and saw her great-grandmother.
"Momma we gotta go I'll call you when I get to school." She yelled out her phone sitting in the bed still in the call.
"Alright Yanni, drive safe and make sure Harmoni is strapped in correctly cause ion need that seat strangling my baby now." Joy stated seriously over the other line.
"I will Mamma love you." Sayanni responded hearing the phone call decline. She finished up strapping Harmoni to her seat grabbing her diaper bag and her school bag before walking out of the apartment and slowly down the steep flight of stairs.
Sayanni phone dinged as she was strapping Harmoni's car seat into the car making sure the straps are secure around her babies body.
Putting all the bags in the passenger seat and pushing the push start button to her car turning the heat all the way up, it wasn't snowing but it was still way to cold for comfort.
Sayanni reached to the back pulling Harmoni little knitted hat more over her head as it began to slip off, pulling out of her parking space and on the way to school.
She quickly made it to her grandmothers house dropping off Harmoni and speeding off to the rest of the way to school. As she made it to the second light of the day her phone rang again
facetime call from mina mean๐๐
the speaker of her car voiced interrupting the faint nursery rhymes she had put on. Tapping the green button in the middle of her phone she posed for a second waiting for it to connect, once it did the light had turned green.
"Where you at best?" Amina asked propping her phone up against something in their first period class, standing next to her one of her many boys that she talks to, Sayanni watched as he moved to put his arms around her and Amina squirmed out of his grip grabbing the phone again.
"I'm up the street, you see me driving bozo." Sayanni replied as she flicked her right turn signal on as she turned into the student parking lot, nodding at one of the security guards standing by the gate.
"I'm here get off my phone." she stated snapping a picture of Amina with a twizzler hanging out of her mouth.
"See you in a little bit." she replied hanging up the phone. Sayanni pulled her phone off of the stand, going to her messages and texting her grandmother she made it to school safe, grabbing her bag and pulling her jeans up by the belt loops and zipping up her jacket from the small chill that had ran across her body from the cold air outside.
Walking through the double doors and into the school building, heading down to administration to get a pass to her first class of the day.
"Where my goddaughter?" Amina inquired plopping down next to Sayanni on one of the many booths in the cafeteria.
"Wit her grandmother probably on her third bottle by now." Sayanni added dipping a couple fries into some sweet and sour sauce before eating them. "She greedy as hell just like you." Amina replied grabbing a fry as well causing Sayanni to look at her funny.
Sayanni and Amina finished off the rest of her food, throwing their trash away and getting up to go walk around while lunch was still going on.
The girls walked hand in hand to one of they're favorite teachers from their sophomore year. Mrs. Ezperonsa, she had just recently gotten married and and was one of the few teachers who were extremely supportive during Sayanni's pregnancy.
Even through she was a young teacher she was really good at her job and had a few students who went on to do great things in their lives. The girls finally made it to her hallway huffing as they made it up the last flight of stairs, Amina pulling out her inhaler taking a puff, causing Sayanni to burst out into laughter ceasing from the small pain she felt in her side as she laughed.
"Your stupid bruh." Sayanni stated still laughing. They started their journey to her classroom where she was still teaching since the girls had first lunch and her class had second lunch. Mrs. Ezperonsa was in the middle of grading papers when she saw the girls outside, being rowdy and twerking once they noticed she noticed them.
She smiled opening the door for them sticking her foot out to hold the door open. "How have y'all been? Looking beautiful as ever and so grown. Yanni you had the baby." She rambled on causing the girls to smile, making converstation with their former teacher.
"Yes she is three months today actually." Sayanni responded her smile growing wider as she showed her the many pictures she had taken of Harmoni since she came. "Amina, you still messing with them little boys or you've moved up rank?" Mrs. Ezpersonsa inquired turning to Amina with her hand on her hip, playfully glaring at the younger girl. Amina gasped covering her mouth with her hand as she began to laugh.
"You already know Mrs. E, got em' wrapped around my finger." she stated flipping her hair from her shoulder in an attempt to being sassy, her braclet getting caught in her hair causing the other two to laugh. "Well girls I love y'all and hope y'all finish out strong we only have five months till y'all are done completely." she smiled peeking her head back into her class as the bell rung for first lunch to be over and second lunch to start.
"Bye Mrs. E." The girls yelled as they quickly ran to get to their next class.
The last bell of the day rang throughout the school intercoms dissmissing all the students. Sayanni waited for the hallways to clear up a bit before heading outside of the building to where Amina and her always meet eachother after school.
"You got a ride pooh?" Sayanni inquired scawling through her backpack for her car keys. Then checking her pockets feeling them on her belt loop as she patted her bottom half for them. "Yes ma'am. Wait for me to leave please, I aint trynna be out there by myself." Amina stated looping her arm around Sayanni's as they walked to the bus loop.
They stood for a second Amina standing on her tippy toes to see if she cound see their car, as the line got shorter and the other teens were dispersing they were still there standing watching the cars go by. Annoyed Amina texted her ride asking where they was, she got a one word response and a picture of where they had parked
Amina sighed pulling Sayanni with her to the front of the school were they had parked. As they got closer to the entrance, Sayanni squinted seeing a familiar sprinter van and a familiar face leaned up against it.
Von had sat up watching the girls one of them looking fairly familiar to him. "Von, Yanni, Yanni, Von." Amina started introducing the two.
"How you know him?" Sayanni asked moving to give him a hug, wrapping her arms around his neck as he wrapped his arm around her waist securely. She whispered a thank you as they pulled away from each other.
"Girl that's my uncle how you know him? All hugged up on the man." Amina mentioned her eyebrows furrowed towards their small exchange. "He's the dude that I told you about, carried me to the hospital and stuff." Sayanni stated turning to her friend.
"Oh I thought he sounded familiar the way you described him, hmph small world." Amina spoke getting into the car putting her backpack in the back.
"It was really nice seeing you ma. You look beautiful. Have a good day." Von spoke before getting into the car as well.
"Bye best I'll see you at the reunion right? Remember next month." Amina yelled sticking her head out of the window as they drove off.
Sayanni waved and blew a kiss to her, watching them leave the school, before starting the walk to her car.
