Chapter 78 - Return

Kai then took note of the spells he had received…

Rank 0: [Healing Spring]

[A spell which allows the user to produce healing water that can be used on the user or others to cure minor injuries. When used in large amounts, it can heal larger and more serious wounds as well. Note, healing water lasts for 2 hours before becoming ineffective for healing, and can only heal those below Rank 1]

Essentially, it was a better version of the Rank 0 Spell Kai had selected; [Recovery], since it not only allowed the user to be healed, but also others, while [Recovery] only worked on the user.

Kai's attention then fell onto the Rank 1 spell, which was an odd description.

Rank 1: [Animate]

[A spell which gives life to inanimate objects]

This spell, unlike most other spells, was not given in a book with a large description, but rather a single scroll with just this much information on it. There was much to be exposed about this spell, yet Kai was not in the situation, nor in the mood to experiment with it.

Items:

[Staff of Life Mana]

[A staff that converts ambient Mana into Life Mana and stared it inside. Can store enough Life Mana to be used for 2 Rank 1 Spells.]

[Unknown Necklace]

[????]

[Stasis Magic Array]

[A magic array used to delay the decay of anything living inside]

[400 Mana crystals]

[Mana crystals]

The only thing Kai could be somewhat satisfied about after this whole trip, was the 400 Mana crystals he had received. For comparison, he had only received 200 Mana crystals for completing the previous mission. This included the bonus he received for undergoing combat, when the quest only involved investigation.

Originally, he was only supposed to get 50 Mana crystals for the mission, however, due to the combat, he received 200 crystals.

This time, he already got 400 crystals, and Kai began looking forward to the mission rewards he would get once he returned after elimination the entire village he was sent to investigate.

'Now that I put it this way… Perhaps I might not get the rewards… but a punishment instead?' Kai thought to himself as the carriage drew closer to the Bluestone Sect.

The continuous rain had slowed down a lot, and now the temperature had begun t o slowly drop. It was a gradual change, but Kai noticed that he was no longer sweating just from sitting in an enclosed space for a long period of time without very great ventilation.

Winter was coming, but Kai did not feel too strongly about it. After adding the two new spells to his list of spells to simulate, Kai stared out the window of the carriage. Suddenly, the image of a dead girl overlapped with some vegetation along the way, pulling him out of his trance.

Kai shook his head and went back to staring out the window, nothing bothering him till they reached the Bluestone Sect entrance.

"Kai!" the fatty Fred exclaimed as he noticed Kai, but slowed down his footsteps when he noticed Kai's dishevelled appearance and staggered gait.

"Let's get you some rest." Fred said after a moment's hesitation. He offered to help Kai walk, but Kai shrugged him off, still not in the mood to entertain anyone.

The two went to Kai's room, but before Fred could engage in a conversation, Kai fell onto the bed, asleep.

"… This guy…" Fred only shook his head. He had already felt like Kai was a bit too friendly and casual with him when he realised Kai had left him alone in his room. Who was to say that he did could not place traps everywhere or set up perfect evidence to frame him with something.

"Dead, dead, and dead! Haha~ all dead. Nothing left to kill~? Why? Everyone's dead! N- N- No~ Huh? Why? She was you mother!? No… No? Haha~ Dead again! Who's next? Ha! Dead, dead, and dead! Haha~ all dead. No, she lives. But he lives! He must die for she to live. Dead! Haha~ he dead. But? She dead… Why- everyone dead?"

Fred moved closer to Kai to hear his mumblings, and his eyes gradually widened before a complicated expression appeared in them.

'Just what… has he been through? Dad said that when fighters experience extremely harrowing situations, they sometimes get something called Post Trauma Disorder. Does Kai have this as well? But, how do you solve it? I should ask father about this.' Fred thought as he pulled the cloth blanket over Kai and left the room, heading towards the communications chamber.

Meanwhile, Back in the Santok Magic Tower…

"Yu! Take the rest of the day off. You have been working almost without any breaks for the past few days. You know that all you need to do is to complete 1 scroll every month from the 10 given to you, and submit it to the Tower. I know it is hard, but you should rest a bit. This is an important factor about making scrolls; your Spiritual Energy needs to be as calm as possible."
