Chapter 20 - Nightmare

Kai's clone had already spent 5 hours digging 20 deep and rather large holes, before placing the dead bodies inside one at a time. He naturally did not have enough energy as a single person to create separate coffins for each person, so he created group graves to bury the people in groups of 3 to 5, with preference given to family members together.

After that, he would spend another hour covering them with dirt once more.

Meanwhile, Kai had taken care of around 30 soldiers himself. After killing the two who were sent out to inspect the path to the Dread castle, Kai returned to the battlefield and began to pick off soldiers who had strayed away from the battlefield due to being too injured or simply losing focus.

Of course, he did not leave their bodies right there and instead dragged them all away discretely. Why was he doing this? Well, this was being done for a nasty surprise to these invaders.

In the throne room with lavish carpeting and curtains, an old man was seated at a conference table with 4 empty seats and two filled seats.

"According to the latest reports, we have successfully infiltrated the Roman Empire to the south at the level of an aristocrat and information will begin to be delivered in a few weeks' time to allow for the source to settle into his position."

"Hmm," The old man with a golden crown on his head nodded.

"We have also confirmed that the barbarian tribes to the north have entered a period of hibernation during the harsh winter to conserve food and wood. They will not be a threat to our Hepis Dynasty until the snow melts to the north."

"Hmm," The old man still nodded in affirmation, as though he was lost in thought about something else entirely.

"The Bluestone Sect has already taken over an entire duchy, and their influence spreads far into the neighbouring duchies as well. Your Majesty, should we really not interfere in this matter?"

"Set up a Magic Academy in each of the neighbouring duchies with the same system as the Bluestone sect. They will have the silent acknowledgement of the crown. Also, send word to the dukes of these respective duchies to support the Academies and silently suppress the Bluestone Sect within their own duchies."

"Of course, you Majesty!" The soldier who had been reading the report bowed before continuing with the report.

"The Tulia Barony near the western border has for some reason colluded with the Roth Empire to take down and eliminate their trusted ally the Dread Barony. Most of the soldiers and knights are dead or will be soon. The Dread Baron will also likely perish in the ensuing battle. The current status of the sole heir to the Dread Barony is unknown."

"Let them do what they want with each other. But they cannot allow enemy troops to enter the Dynasty's land. Send a squad of Advanced Knights and a Rank 2 Mage to deal with the situation. Kill all enemy troops they find but do not interfere with the battle between the two baronies."

"Of course, Your Majesty!" The soldier bowed once more before continuing the report which went on for another hour before all the situations needing the ruler's decisions were taken care of.

Back at the battlefield, the commanders in conspicuous black leather armour had already noticed the diminishing number of soldiers within their army and had instructed the soldiers to be aware of surprise attacks from behind while fighting. This would prevent whatever was causing the disappearance of their soldiers to stop, what they did not expect was that Morgan Dread would also notice this and take advantage of the situation which had put them on high alert.

"Now! Push through!" the Baron yelled as he used his sword and Five Elephant Palm to kill three enemies in front of him and cleave a path through the slightly distracted soldiers on leather armour.

Kai, who was looking at this event play out smiled as he moved into a nearby soldier. Now that the distracted army's attention had been turned back to Pops, Kai could continue his process of selecting singled-out soldiers, dragging them away and killing them.

Kai knew that if he were to rush into the open and battle against the leather-armoured soldiers, he would most definitely be killed, or worse; captured after he dealt with two or three enemies.

Then, they would blackmail the baron to surrender or Kai would be killed.

Instead of doing something like that, Kai would do his best to ensure his own safety while also helping the baron out as much as he possibly could.

Although he was already beginning to feel hungry, he did not stop, and this greatly irritated the two black armoured enemies. They now had to have their army split their focus on two separate enemies; one being the baron and his handful of soldiers, and the other being a hidden enemy who was taking out distracted soldiers.

However, they too were stuck in this position. If they let out too many troops to search for the hidden enemy, the Baron would likely be able to escape, and they had to kill the baron today or else they would all be killed upon returning from a failed mission.

Time slowly passed and the battle had reached an inevitable conclusion. The leather-armoured soldiers were only 20 in number while the baron had a total of 15 troops with him. Although each one of them was highly exhausted and rather injured, they would be enough to take care of this group.

"Attack!" the black armoured enemies pointed at the baron, and after a brief moment of hesitation, the soldiers ran forward, not realising that the two commanders in black armour had turned around and were retreating with sorrowful expressions.

These commanders would never be able to return to their Roth Empire again, and would likely have to hide away in another kingdom like rats in order to survive.

Kai had already noticed the conclusion of the battle as well as the two black armoured commanders and grinned as he followed them. There was only one single route to escape, which was back to the Dread castle. From their current location, only a forest filled with dangerous beasts surrounded them, so the enemies would likely return to the castle and retreat to their homes from there.

The two commanders were jogging at a moderate speed; however, they began to smell the scent of blood, and their footsteps slowed in caution. Soon enough, a scene right from their nightmares was in front of them.
