I think it's safe to imagine that every parent loves his or her
children regardless of any imperfections that the outside world
may see. The artists' music is like a child to them. Artists love all
their music because it is their love child. This is why during
interviews when quizzed which is their favourite song an artist
will usually resort to the default setting "I love all my songs, I
really can't choose". Of course you can't choose Mother Goose
because they are your children, simple.
It's good to be protective of your music but it's also good to be
pragmatic. Not all songs are created equal. You must learn to
accept that your catalogue is not comprised of hit songs only.
There must be a couple of bad apples in there. After all you are
only human. Getting to that place of acceptance is probably the
hardest thing any artist has to do. It's so much easier to lash out
and be angry at everyone else than to look critically at oneself.
Be honest with yourself and move on from negative criticism and
concentrate on making more hit songs.
