At the same moment, high up in an open valley of the mountains, three boys gathered together. One was nose deep in his studies, scribbling furiously in his notebook as he muttered words under his breath. The other two boys were staring at a cluster of chickens that were loose around the valley. They were called to help get them back to their farm. Though the boy studying deciding it wasn't that important to capture escaped chickens. And he was really interested to see what the other two would do.
"Okay, Gavin, watch me. I can show you the best way to catch a chicken," one of the boys said with a bright grin. He was wearing a baggy boyband t-shirt and ripped jeans. His hair was pushed back out of his eyes. He actually loved very unserious.
"Leon, I'm not dumb. There's no right way to capture a chicken," the boy named Gavin said, rolling his eyes. Gavin had on a colorful sweater and blue jeans. His pink hair was ruffled every which way. He had just got done complaining about the heat.
"Yes there is! Right Everett?" Leon asked, turning on their friend who, quite frankly, wanted no part of this. Everett glanced up at them, visibly annoyed that they bugged him. Everett took off the glasses he was wearing, letting out a soft grumble under his breath.
"Will you two leave me alone and let me study?" Everett asked, glancing between them. They had been bugging him ever since they entered the field. Everett wasn't even there to capture the chickens. They just wouldn't stop asking him to go, so he did to make them shut up.
"Oh nevermind!" Gavin said with a laugh before glancing back at Leon.
"Let me just show you!" Leon said, licking his dry lips in concentration as he turned his attention back to the chickens. He narrowed his eyes before stepping out and pouncing at one of the chickens with miraculous speed. Surprisingly, however, the chicken got away and Leon tumbled over on the ground, somersaulting until he lost momentum. Gavin stared at him for a few moments before breaking out in a loud laughter, grabbing his own knees to steady himself.
"That was not funny!" Leon cried out with a huff, pushing off his ground and crossing his arms. He was now covered in dirt, his hair looking as messy as Gavin's.
"I don't think that's the best strategy. Of course they would run away if you try and jump at them. You're like a wild cat attacking her prey! We're not supposed to attack them," Gavin said, shaking his eyes and wiping the tears out of his eye with a laugh. "Let me show you something!"
He looked at a chicken, crouching down low and tiptoeing towards one of the chickens very quietly. He got closer and closer, reaching out to grab it. The chicken, however, let out an offended sound and ran off. Gavin frowned and started running after it in order to catch it. Leon let out a scoff, shaking his head in amusement as he watched Gavin run around. Everett, however, sighed and shut his notebook.
"Do you guys know how to do anything?" Everett asked, taking out some papers from his pocket. He glanced around before tossing them. Each paper fluttered onto a chicken, causing the chickens to freeze in their spots. Gavin and Leon both froze, exchanging glances in wonder.
"Ah, talismans, of course," Leon said, clapping his hands as if impressed. "I totally forgot about them!"
"Yeah, you definitely forgot about them even though you see me use them every day," Everett said, rolling his eyes and looking back down at his schoolwork. "You guys can go ahead and catch them now."
The other two glanced at each other before nodding their heads and suddenly started running around, catching each chicken and running them into their coop close by. It didn't take more then fifteen minutes to finish. Once they did, they were both plopped down next to Everett, letting out sighs of relief. Everett glanced at them before shaking his head and turning the page in his notebook. He knew that in the end he would have to help them.
"You know what I always wonder," Leon said, digging into his own bag and pulling out a giant beef jerky stick, taking a large bite out of it.
"What?" Gavin asked, reaching out and trying to take some of the jerky.
"Why Father never yells at you for your pink hair," Leon said, his mouth full.
"Eat with your mouth shut," Everett said with a groan, glaring at the boy. "That's disgusting. I don't want to see your chewed up food."
"You don't want to see this?" Leon asked, opening his mouth wide and showing him what was inside. Everett gagged and smacked him with his notebook.
"Get the fuck away from me!" Everett cried out. Gavin let out a sound of loud laughter, succeeding in getting some jerky from Leon while he was distracted.
Leon laughed and sat back, before looking down at his jerky stick. He frowned when he saw that half of it was missing. He turned on Gavin with a glare before jumping onto the boy, pinning him to the ground.
"Give it back to me, you thief!" Leon shouted, causing Gavin to shake his head and run his tongue all around the jerky in his hand. "You are the absolute worth!"
"Serves you right!" Gavin said with a giggle, before freezing when they heard a cough from behind them. They all turned to find a boy in all black, his hands in his pockets. He had a distant look in his eyes as he stood before them. Everyone frowned, sitting up straight.
"Xuesong. You have a mission," he said with a deep voice. "Father needs to see you now."
"Right now?" Everett asked, frowning slightly. "But I have homework I need to do."
"Now," the boy reiterated, causing Everett to flinch and stand up. There was no use arguing with him.
"Let's go," Everett told the two boys with him. "We have to get our assignment."
