Everett and his friends made their way down the mountain to their home. Gavin and Leon skipped ahead, speaking loudly amongst eachother. Everett tuned them out for the most part. He didn't know what they were talking about half the time. It was never anything that interested him. Everett was a quiet and reserved person, unlike the other two.
"What do you think our mission will be?" Gavin asked, looking back at Everett in excitement.
"You mean my mission?" Everett asked with raised eyebrows. "He never said anything about it being our mission."
"Oh come on, you know you'll bring us with you," Leon said, rolling his eyes. Everett shook his head but kept walking without saying a word. Gavin and Leon always invited themselves anywhere he went. He didn't really know why they loved him so much. He really didn't do anything too interesting at all.
Soon they were walking into their hideaway, a cave dug out in the side of a mountain. He led the way through the tunnels until they got to their clan leader's throne room. Everett made eye contact with the clan leader before bowing respectfully. Gavin and Leon followed suit. The clean leader was a tall man in dark clothing, blonde hair and a deep scar down his cheek. He always had a cold look on his face, which made Gavin and Leon shiver anytime they saw him.
"I see you brought friends," the man said coldly, causing Everett to sigh and glance at them.
"I couldn't shake them off," Everett told him, causing the man to shake his head and gesture for them to sit. All three boys sat obediently on their knees in front of him. "I'm here to receive my mission, sir."
The man let out a low growl, causing Gavin to lean a little into Leon. Everett sat, un-phased. He clenched his fists anxiously. He was always nervous with any missions the clan leader gave him. He knew each one made him better, but he couldn't deny that they were dangerous half the time. Especially when he had to fight a high level demon or something. Which he actually had to do alot.
"Xuesong," the man said in a low voice. "We found the demon who took your sister."
Everett's eyes widened at his words. He shifted so he sitting up straighter as he stared at the man. He's been looking for his sister for a very long time. He didn't know if he'd ever be able to find her. He found out a few years ago, however, that she was taken by the demon clan and raised as one of their own.
"He came out of hiding. It is your job to track him and find out what he's planning," the man continued. "We know he has already taken a soul. We can't let him take any others."
"Who is he?" Everett asked, clenching his fists in anger.
"Riki Yukimori. The demon who had killed the Balor king," the man said. Everett closed his eyes, trying to stop his heart from pacing too much.
"Wait, isn't that too dangerous… sir?" Leon blurted out, whispering the sir and backing up in fear when the man turned to look at him.
"He won't be tracking him alone," the man said, looking Leon and Gavin up and down. "You two will help him. And Yanjun."
'Is this a mission or a babysitting job?' Everett thought to himself as the man mentioned Yanjun's name. Yanjun was probably the hardest kid to deal with. He always had a mind of his own and ensued chaos anywhere he went. More so than Leon and Gavin. And yet when the three of them were together, it was actual hell.
"Do we have to fight the demon?" Leon asked, worry lacing his voice.
"You're not ready for that," the man said. "You are strictly to only track the demon. That's it. Figure out what he's doing. He must not find his kids."
"He has children??" Gavin asked, looking at the man in alarm.
"You are dismissed," the man said, ignoring Gavin's question. Everett stood up and bowed deeply to him before turning and leaving the room. Gavin and Leon exchanged glances before rushing after Everett.
"Isn't the demon that took your sister the king of the demon clan?" Leon asked, but Everett stayed silent. "Isn't he like super powerful?"
"I know we all have demon in us…. But if he has kids, doesn't that mean we're doomed? The whole world is doomed?" Gavin asked. He was starting to panic, looking back and forth between Everett and Leon. "Isn't that a bad thing?!"
"Not if his kids are brought up in a good clan," Everett spoke up, finally. "We need to keep them away from their father. We need to figure out who they are and help them the best we can."
"Do you know who his kids are?" Gavin asked him, causing Everett to give one small shake of the head. Gavin and Leon exchanged looks as they continued to follow Everett. "Aren't we doomed then?! How are we supposed to figure out who they are if we don't have any clue?"
"We'll figure it out," Everett told him. "We always do."
"Okay, but what if we have to fight this demon?" Leon asked. "He's the demon king, right? So won't it be a possibility?"
"Not if we're careful," Everett said, looking between them. "As long as we're careful and not make ourselves known, everything will be okay."
"Okay," Leon said with a deep sigh. He glanced at Gavin before sighing. "When do we leave?"
"We leave in an hour," Everett told them. "Pack your bags. And make sure Yanjun is ready too. I want you guys to meet me in front."
He walked off with a deep sigh. He was more angry that he couldn't finish his homework. Going on another mission meant missing more school. Everett definitely wasn't excited about this. At least he didn't have to deal with crowds for a while.
