Chapter 54 - Dangerous Fingertips: The Wrong Touch Leads to Unforeseen Consequences

"Like sponsoring us? I had wanted to create some of our own joints, but I never thought to ask how many the city has," I said questioningly.

"I think at least twenty, but the city is a big place, so it might not hurt to have a few more. Especially if you plan on escorting people to and from the bars. That brings a ton of positives with no downsides that I can think of, considering how bad the streets have gotten lately. Taking people to the bars to let off steam and give them peace of mind will be worth much to the average working class. You could really corner the economy with this!" Miles said with more excitement than I had seen out of him yet.

"Good. Set it up, and I will make sure you get a slice of the profits," I said, and then was about to turn but stopped. "What is it that you want? I mean, in a perfect world, what would you be doing?" I asked, making Miles frown at me and then sit back as he hummed.

"Now, that is a fancy question I have never thought about. Trying to get by has always been my goal, but I would like to run a gambling/entertainment business. Girls, gambling, and drinks all under the same roof, but I know how you feel about women," Miles chuckled, and I smiled.

"Now, that doesn't sound bad, and I didn't say that I disapproved of brothels or gentlemen's parlors. What I will not put up with is the abuse of women. Once I control the city, things are going to start changing, and we will turn the sex industry into a booming business for women that want to earn large amounts of money. There will be no forcing people to do things, and it will draw more women into work if they can pick clients and fields. Keep up the good work, and I will make your dream a reality in the future if you follow the rules," I said, and Miles nodded, returning to his notes.

"Thank you, boss. I will be sure to remember that," Miles said, and I nodded, leaving the room and heading to the back of the building where the Mindless and Alizra were being held.

I was glad to see Miles get excited about something, meaning I could keep a better hold of him. Giving a person a possible dream-like future as an option was a powerful incentive to keep a person loyal and to make them work hard. That, and what Miles had suggested, was a great pairing with my original idea of escorts. His advice about the magical items sellers was what I had planned to do, but it was good that he spoke up to make the suggestion. This meant he was slowly returning to his state before meeting me, but with noticeable changes that were good for me.

Once I entered the warehouse, I headed to the Mindless cages and created an examination table a few ways away. The next thing was creating another cage around these cages and Alizra's hut to disrupt magic or signals. I also created connecting points I could step on in key areas that would link me back to my drone because the jamming also affected my communication and signals. Each hardwired point was connected to spots I would be standing in, most often around the table and in front of the cages. The last thing I did was create a computer and a deep tissue scanner connected to the table.

Alizra stirred, and I stopped to watch her momentarily, but she stayed asleep. Considering what she told me about her sleep, I would be shocked if she woke up before this evening. That was fine because I didn't think there was too much she could do to help me with this, and I was ready to start.

Because I wasn't sure how this would go, I started with the oldest-looking of the four males. He was a tall, gangly man with a shaved head and covered in tattoos. I opened the cage, created a device to go on the man's head to keep him asleep, and then brought him to the table. Straps sprung over the man, and the scans started as I connected with one of the hardwired points.

It seemed Kyla and Rax were working together on the list diligently, and the other two girls were already gilding the boys on what houses to approach. The silver knights were staying out of sight and only moving around over the rooftops for the most part, as Kilna scouted with four drones. This seemed to be almost more than she could handle, but then I saw that she was always leaving two stationary, so I didn't comment.

Once the scan was done, I used drones to create a holographic image of the man's body from the scan directly above him and started to look it over. I tried to find anything that would look out of place while the machine did more scans. The first scan was just of the organic living cells of the body, but nothing seemed strange as I ran a basic health humans scan beside it that I just so happened to have in my database for some reason. The following scan was for metal, and I immediately saw something embedded deep inside each of the man's ears. I got a reading on the composition of the metal, and it was platinum.

I expanded the image of both objects, and as I did, the following scan for chaotic energy loaded in, and there was a tiny amount of magic leaking out of them. Looking closely, I could see no marking on the metal, and I pulled back and did a more intense scan of the metal, penetrating the inside. Once finished, I could finally see a small symbol on the inside of it. It looked like a small handwritten r, but I had never seen it before used, and it didn't match the style of the regular glyphs I had seen others write out. They were more like Japanese Kanji than anything English.

That left me nothing to do but to try and remove it. I assumed that my body should be more than enough for the job, stuck my finger in his ear, and started a live scan with my drones of the area. My finger transformed into a small arm that stretched out and reached out to the device. The moment that I touched the smooth, oval piece of metal, I knew I had fucked up.
