"Were you aware of this!" Abigail stumbled into the study room where she met Carol who was paying attention to a book he was reading.
"I didn't think you'd show up. I thought you were giving me the silent treatment," he stated, his eyes glued to the book as she flipped to the next page.
"I said, were you aware of the wedding tomorrow?" Abigail hesitated as she spoke but what angered her more was the fact that Carol was acting calm about it.
"Your father decided to postpone it for tomorrow. You should be happy you're gonna get over it once and for all" He muttered, his eyes still glued to the book but Abigail became more and more furious.
"What's your obsession with me?" Abigail started to walk closer to his side as she spread both her palms on the table. This time, Carol's eyes left the book meeting Abigail's glare.
Steadily, he sat up straight and stood up from the chair surpassing Abigail's height. Abigail could feel the tension. His eyes widely stared back at her, his shoulder broader than before, his hair packed into a bun, while some were dropping slightly covering his face. She had never felt this tension before, but now that he was standing in her presence, her thoughts grew wilder.
Unexpectedly, his hands curled up on her hair smoothly touching its texture. It was soft.
"I should be asking you" He grinned as he twerled her hair with his hands, moving closer to her and not leaving any spaces in between. He was so close, that Abigail could perceive his scent. Different, hence strong.
"Why do you despise me so much?" He voiced, this time, inspecting her with his hands moving from Abigail's hair to her shoulders. Both hands were kept on her shoulders as he muttered behind her back.
"There are a lot of women out there, dying.... no-" his hands instantly left her shoulders and crept lower to her waist.
"Tempted to be with me_"
"But why are you just so difficult?" His voice became deep as he spoke as Abigail breathlessly stood on the same spot unresponsive to his actions.
"You're the only woman that despises me," He says while he lays his body closer to hers, their skin almost touching and his lips extremely close to her ears.
"Things like that always turn me on" Carol smirked as he whispered in her ears
Abigail was speechless by his sudden confession. She never expected him to act so unbothered and calm about this. The words that came out of his mouth were like bomb shells that could explode any second.
"Tomorrow is our wedding, and there is nothing you can do about it. Whatever tricks you pull, it's not gonna work" His hands tightened around her waist and every breath he took was like poison that had no cure.
"You are my bride. So no matter how pathetic you cry, or scream, no one's gonna hear you. As long as I'm still standing" He whispered clearly in her ears. Abigail didn't know the emotions to express after hearing this. She didn't know if she should be furious, sad, scared, or even happy. Nothing crossed her mind at that point. She became so lost, that thinking of the next step to take wasn't close to an option.
With the only strength she had, she tried to free herself from his grip but to her horror, she was outpowered. His strength was 10 times more powerful than hers he didn't even budge.
"We're not done talking-" Carol snooped her on her feet and carried her bridal style as he sat her down on the chair and kneeled in front of her only Abigail more sceptical than before. She couldn't even breathe in shock but unfortunately for her, Carol could see right through her that she was flustered.
"You wanted to speak with me earlier. Why have you suddenly gotten mute? Cat's got your tongue?" Carol stated while Abigail sat there avoiding eye contact. It was like all the anger and threats she had prepared for him on her way here just vanished in her head.
Arrogantly, Abigail stood to her feet with a stern look on her face, She stood up and so did he. This time, she looked angered to hide the fluster on her face.
"Seducing me wouldn't work-" She managed to spill out in an immersive tone but to her surprise, Carol burst into laughter.
Abigail had never even seen Carol smile before. It looked a lot more genuine than his evil grin or smirk. Astrayed by his smile, she blushed and turned her face sideways to hide her nervousness.
"Goddess_ You are a handful. Let me make it straight with you" Once again, his hands made their way to her hair, fixing his eyes on her black long silky hair as he spoke.
"I am not a master at seduction as everyone says." He says but Abigail could tell he was being serious.
Out of all the rumors she had heard, It was reasonable enough that he was pointed out as a womanizer who was addicted to sex but for some reason, she couldn't confirm if he was lying or telling the truth.
"And why should I believe you?" Abigail uttered pushing aside her thoughts.
"It's your choice. Believe me or not, that sounds like your problem" He turned his back aggressively.
'Rude' Abigail thought noticing his frustration...
"Tomorrow, you are gonna be my bride whether you like it or not. So don't think getting on my bad side would change anything" Carol changes the subject while turning his back on Abigail. His actions instantly reminded Abigail of the reason she was here in the first place. Not to get on either of his sides, it was to call off the wedding. Sadly, she had lost that battle as well.
"Call off the wedding Carol. Why don't you understand that I am not interested in becoming your wife?" Abigail says convincingly but Carol doesn't respond. After minutes of silence and covering up what to say, he turned his head sideways and uttered some words under his breath, leaving Abigail silenced.
"Don't you dare do anything reckless tomorrow"
