Melody had always watched other people take care of babies, but once she had her own, she understood how hard it could be physically and emotionally.
She didn't expect to find out how important it was to take care of her child's needs all the time. As each of these things happened, one after the other, they took away her strength and left her feeling weak.
The word "tired" took on a whole new meaning, bringing with it the exhaustion that comes from not getting enough sleep and always having things to do. She hadn't slept for more than an hour at a time in so long that she couldn't even remember the last time she slept peacefully.
Melody had figured out how to do something useful while she was feeding her baby. With a pillow on her lap and a laptop on it, she could finally stop looking at the same plain plaster wall and counting the clock's ticking.
