After things settled down, I finally took the time to look around the camp.
Across the camp , buildings where dotted around and by Thalia's tree I could see them all. The pavilion, amphitheatre as well as the combat arena and trainings grounds. Obviously, The Greek style stood out, the bright white columns practically glimmering in the sun as Apollo was just overhead.
There was a surprising amount of demigods at the camp considering it's January and schools are in session. Mostly, they were training either in archery or sword sparring. I could even see some horse riding and canoeing with the occasional Naiads popping above the surface.
"Well, I can see why they called it the big house." I said to Thalia's tree.
It was four stories tall and sky blue, idly I wondered if it was in reference to the sky god as it even had a bronze eagle near the roof. From there I looked over to the cabins. Just like Percy described, they were arranged in a U shape with two at the base and five either side. Suddenly, I am hit with a sense of sympathy for the minor gods. Their children would never be able to have their own cabin and just foisted of into Hermes cabin, even from here a can see it's overcrowded.
It was easily the most wrecked cabin and almost completely worn down except for The god's symbol, the Caduceus.
"I feel real bad for those kids, Thalia, do you think I could do something about that? Either way I will be talking to Chiron to see if I can add an extension, hopefully for the non-hermes children and with anti-theft runes I guess ha ha!" I chuckled to myself at the future expressions of the sons and daughters of Hermes.
Making my way to the big house, I come across a group of teenagers surrounding a lone lad who couldn't be more than 12.
One of them said " Hey, Look at him curl up, his fatass looks like a guinea pig! hahaha!"
The other teens join in the laughter as I get a glimpse at them, and yeeesh now I understand why children of Ares aren't known for their looks. They practically take after his animal the boar, covered in warts and scrunched up faces.
As they continue to bully the poor kid, I being the dashing hero that I am , go to his rescue.
"OI!!" I yelled. The teens jump in shock, before turning to face me. Instantly their expressions turn to fearful, as I glared at them doing my best impression of a wolf, My crimson eyes narrowing the glare I gave.
"The fuck you think your doing! the kid is barely 12 and you felt the need to surround him? guess being children of a war god being cowards is a new thing!" With each word I said they slowly turned reder and reder before as one the struck out at me as the kid they were tormenting booked it.
The five of them charged at me with surprising skill and coordination. But to me it was slow.
THUMP!
THUMP!
THUMP!
THUMP!
TWANG?!
And it was over, nearly a full 15seconds I suppose I should congratulate them for managing that.
With that bit of drama, I continued my walk to the big house.
"Hey Mr D, do you mind if I talk to ya for a sec?" I asked the tormented god.
Dionysus was also startingly similar to how Rick Riordan wrote, a porky bloke with black hair and a red nose as if he were constantly drunk. Hell, he even had the damned Hawaiian tiger shirt!
"Must you?!" He pleaded.
" Yeah, I need to ask your permission to add an extension to the Hermes cabin for the non-hermes spawns." I informed him, and isn't that weird, he doesn't seem to treat me as a camper but more like a -a ha that's it a guidance counselor.
"Oh fine,"Mr D sulked "go ahead, not like anyone else will free up space for the wannabe heroes. But first, I better ask father if it's allowed and while I'm at it see if I can get you that permission to "save demigods" I suppose?!!"
"Well Lord Dionysus, is there anything I can do for your generous help?" I decide to offer as honesty beyond training some brats in spearman ship and coddling Melody, who is with the Hermes cabin girls at the moment, I had nothing much to do.
"Well I am glad you have offered and I've got just the thing!" he gleefully replied.
Dread began piling up in my stomach, the same sensation that happens when I consider my dismal luck stat.
" I believe one of my many siblings has wronged me," Dionysus "mournfully" stated," earlier this month I was visiting my temple and noticed my goblet was missing, now not just any goblet but one that was given to me by my stunning wife. I believe you may understand how I may be a slight bit. . Aha Wrathful. Your so called "Quest" will to see it found and who ever took it punished!" As he finished the menacing glow to his eyes began to fade unlike the raging fires they were just before. Before I could continue the god said.
"Well if you pop young Knight, theres a goblet to be rescued! haha" Then he walked if chortling to him self.
"well, I better get started, trust my first quest to be a fetch quest." I muttered to my self as it slowly got darker as I planned my revenge for this injustice. I guess wanting to help demigods, even those already at camp, is never going to be easy.
Whelp, off to Melody I go. So I wandered of to cabin 11 and from out side yelled,
"MELODY, MELODY IH WHERE ART THOU!!"
All at once the children came pouring out, the older ones bearley keeping a straight face as Melody, red faces from embarrassment, came up to me. I spread my arms out as she neared my trap, tensing slightly , I launch myself forward and pick up the adorable demigoddess as she pouted.
The sounds of laughter started and I thought to myself, yeah this quest will be worth it so they can keep their joy.
