Chapter 5 - Preparing Your Catfish Hatchery Materials

The catfish hatchery materials include the spawning nets or kakabans.

You can easily prepare a net by using black almaco window nets.

The holes are ideal enough to hold the incubating eggs and allowing the newly hatched Fry's to fall off easily.

You can use a plastic pipe of half inch or three quarter to form the nets using elbows to join them together.

This material is good enough as it floats on top of the water.

Other hatchery materials you should provide are; razor blades, knife, towels, 0.9 saline water, ovulation chemical, needles and syringes.

Others are oxidation chemicals like common salt, hydrogen peroxide, gentian violet, etc.

These are used to control the effect of bad eggs from polluting the pond and causing high fry mortality.
