Chapter 7 - Chapter 7 : The first step is always the hardest

i registered for a battle as soon as the gym opened in the first day of the new season and even then people were already camping outside although there were a few 8 tops so i had to wait for another 2 hours aprox before my turn so i just started to do what i do best and started thinking

'what information would be used against me and which for my gain?
1) i gotta take in consideration for this battle is the fact that misty is a water specialist meaning that at the very least she knows how does slowpoke work in a physical level so trying to get that she bites slowpoke tail to minimize damage would not work

2) pokemon i know she uses in 0 badge challenges are : staryu, shellder, horsea, psyduck, poliwag and goldeen so they are all first stage pokemon from kanto region since i know she uses pokemon from another region like marill or luvdisc to throw people of with the not so common pokemon so i was safe form getting the crap beaten out of me with a marill with huge power.

3) in case of moves like recover or rest going all out is the only way and prevent the use of the move even at the cost of stamina since it would cost even more stamina overall if we let her recover.'

i heared my name and i started walking holding slowpokes pokeball close to my chest. When i got near the arena i saw a path that conected the start and end of the pool where misty was standing and some platforms on the sides and then i started hearing the presenter speaking

"he is one of our locals and he decided to honor us with his first gym battle we present Paul Brightburn!"

i didnt know if they try to make everyone nervous or it was just me but i knew it wouldnt work

'YOU FOOL im always nevous when it comes to battle'

so instead i smiled to the audience and the camara that i knew was somewhere

" this will be a six vs two battle are both parts awere of it?"

misty and i nodded

"best of luck you will needed ITS TIME TO SHINE go poliwag!"

'Wait a minute, i heared that before in fact it was on my first battle are you telling me he stole it from misty? man talk about being original'

" ITS SHOWTIME go Slowpoke "

"what do we have? here little Paul decided to fight the water specialist with a water pokemon you either got guts or you are just that dumb only time will tell well lets start shall we? poliwag start swiming"

' well shit this thing either has swift swim or water absorb either way thats not good since slowpoke is not even half as good of a swimer than him he mostly floats...
in handsight makeing him a better swimer was a must i just didnt thought about it since we where trying to make our new move battle ready.'

"slowpoke you know the drill"

and with that most of my talking during the fight was over since i figured long time ago that it was better to just guide my pokemon during battle instead of direct orders it was less predictable overall and even if i coded my moves someone online would realize the pattern and i would be back to square one so it was just better to not say anything.

And just like the start of every other battle slowpoke stood still.

"if you are not gonna attack then i will start. Poliwag double slap!"

Poliwag came out of the water at higher speeds that he should be allowed and hitted slowpoke and he just tanked the hit without moveing and then yawned so the presenter started talking again

"what do we have here? the Slowpoke didnt even move and just stood there like if it was nothing perhaps he dosent consider Poliwag worth his time?"

and then misty spoke again

"if damage is the problem i think we can solve that, Poliwag rain dance"

all of the sudden the cealing started to open and clouds started forming and the sky turned grey and then water started to fall

"if you think yourself above the common 0 badge trainer because you dont talk to your pokemon let me tell you something, you are wrong, but if You think You are up to the Challenge then let's up the difficulty shall we?"

"Poliwag do what you consider best"

And with that command all that was left is the battle, imediatly Poliwag went under water again and started going in an out throwing water guns faster than slowpoke could move

'Come on, just a few more seconds'

In once of his jumps i saw poliwag close his eyes and i knew it was time

"Stop him"

With that slowpoke used telekinesis and maneged to stop all momentum of poliwag and insted of falling in the water he fell in of the platforms.

As soon as he fell, the cheecks of slowpoke where growing and Misty knew what that meant so she tried to wake up Poliwag but it was already to late, and once they reached the límit slowpoke released the charged water gun makeing an instant knock out and Misty could only return his Poliwag.

' Slowpoke has about 60% of his hp and his 8 moves are 6 now even if he didnt use them, the battle is takeing a toll on his body and it Will impact on the amount of movies he can make'

While i was on My mind Misty started talking

" you did well good friend now rest, he will end the battle for you"

Misty looked at me

"i admit i didnt expect your slowpoke to use yawn since its not very viable in battle for how long does it take to make effect and that was an oversight for my part, that will not happen again. Go staryu"

she then said something more but i ignored her it was fase 2 and it would be harder from now on

" You know, a few weeks ago i would hace been scared of you but not now, victory is within our reach and we will not let it get away'"

and just like that the battle continued and now when slowpoke tried to yawn staryu would either dive in the water where the sound would be disrupted or couldnt reach or would launch a water gun at slowpokes mouth forcing him to close it

"slowpoke its time to start plan B"

and after a few seconds of staying still the next time that slowpoke opened his mouth and staryu decided to throw a water gun he found that it was overpowerd by slowpokes and ended up hitting him in the face(gem?) forcing him to dive again in the water only to go out in response to mistys call

"Staryu its time to speed up dont you think?"

As soon as she said that order he jumped our of the water directly to slowpoke and used a rapid spin hitting slowpoke in the face in exchange of reciving another charged water gun but it seemed to be worth it since he started moveing faster and now every time slowpoke opened his mouth he would just dive before he could do something about it, but even then he was still slightly slower than Poliwag so his eyes could follow it and that was all that mattered so i just had to wait and slowpoke would start to see the timing in his movenents because as much independece pokemon might have from his trainer they eventually get confortable and start relaying on patterns unconciously.

It didnt take much longer for slowpoke to find it and now every time he opened his mouth and staryu went back to the water slowpoke would throw an instant water gun instead of his charged ones and would start hitting it right before he made a dive makeing a little bit of damage every time.

then misty spoke again.

Misty POV
When he showed his first pokemon she thought he was jokeing and who would blame her? he was sending a water type to the water specialist and not only that he was sending a slowpoke! the reason she didnt use slowpokes was because they were really slow and not only that they were extreamly lazy and couldnt pay atencion for long so the ones that werent she would evolve them into a slowbro or slowking since that was when they were most usefull so when the slowpoke just took the double slap and didnt do anything besides yawning she thought she had this battle in the bag she didnt expect that the yawn to be the move and not just a normal one since the move wasnt really used in competitive battles and most pokemon didnt learned it but she realized something, the kid didnt talk if that meant that there was a psychic connection or he just had a plan it didnt matter this kid was already worthy of the badge if nothing else for thinking outside the box even if he didnt win against his second pokemon after all that was one of the things the gyms promoted but she wanted to know how far she could push him so she told him that she would match him and wouldnt talk and then the effect of yawn happened and the strongest that monster of a slowpoke launch one of the most strongest water gun she had seen and was 100% sure that she heard something crack so she returned her Poliwag as soon as the attack ended and started thinking on her options and got to the conclusion that the best way to push someone was to not hold any punches so she sended staryu and made sure to made him aware that he knew the move yawn and then told him to do as he pleases so every time the slowpoke would open his mouth he would either dive or launch a water gun and in one of those times when stary would lunch a water gun she was overpowerd with one of the overcharged water guns of that slowpoke so she decided to give statyu advice and told him to speed up and it was working for a while and she maneged to launch some water guns and psywaves while the slowpoke only knew water gun for all she knew although a very powerfull one indeed and then it changed.

Before, slowpoke could only follow staryu with his eyes but now he launched his water guns not where staryu was but where he would be and although less powerfull they started makeing more damage so she smiled and made told staryu to stand in a platform started using recover

'let's see how do You handle that'

The trainer's face changed for a resigned face.

'so this is all You have?'

"Slowpoke use last resort"

'Last resort? slowpoke dosen't learn that , what does he mean?'

she looked at staryu for a moment and then calmed down, she was fairly sure slowpoke didnt learn last resort he must be bluffing

'he must be'

so she looked back to where the slowpoke was and saw he wasn't there anymore

'this is gonna hurt'
