CHANGE OF POV: SAM'S POV
As I lay on the couch, trying to catch a few hours of sleep after a long day, my phone began to ring. I groggily answered it, not bothering to check who the caller is.
"Good evening, Sam. This is Mrs. Scott, Ray's mom. How are you doing? And what about Ray? Is he with you?"
"Um, yeah, he's here. We were working on a project at my place and he decided to rest for a bit," I replied with the lie I had prepared ahead.
Her knowing that Ray was drugged isn't something I want to bother her with, plus Ray won't want her worrying.
"Tell him not to bother coming home. It's late," Mrs. Scott said, her voice heavy with disappointment.
"Alright, I'll let him know," I said, feeling a sense of guilt wash over me.
Ray's mom have actually taken me as a 2nd son and I felt kinda bad having to lie to her.
"My regards to your parents," she said before hanging up the phone.
I sighed and sat up, glancing over at Ray who was still sleeping soundly on bed. I said a silent prayer hoping by tomorrow morning, he'd be awake and feeling better.
CHANGE OF POV: RAY'S POV
I groggily opened his eyes, taking in my unfamiliar surroundings. I was in a hospital room, with machines beeping and humming around him.
As I tried to sit up, a sharp pain shot through my head and I fell back onto the pillow with a groan.
A doctor appeared at the foot of my bed, peering at me through glasses. "Ray, can you hear me?"
I nodded, my throat feeling dry and raw. "Where am I?" I croaked.
"You're in the hospital, Ray," the doctor said. "You were in a coma. But it looks like you're starting to wake up. That's good news."
'Coma? How had I ended up in a coma?'
My mind raced as I tried to remember what had happened. But before I could piece together the events leading up to his coma, I saw a familiar face enter the room.
Lily's.
Lily approached my bedside, a concerned expression on my face. "Ray, how are you feeling?" she asked.
My heart raced. I and Lily have not really been the best of friends lately, and the thought of her being the first person I saw upon waking was unsettling. But as I looked into her eyes, I saw genuine concern and worry.
"I'm okay," I said, still trying to make sense of everything. "What happened?"
Lily hesitated before answering. "You were drugged," she said, her voice shaking. "I'm just glad you're okay."
My mind was filled with questions, but before I could ask any of them, I started to feel dizzy again.
'Drugged? How?' The more I tried to make sense of the situation, the more the headache.
And soon, I drifted to sleep.
I can't tell how long I slept but soon I was awake.
The doctor returned to the room, a folder clutched in his hand. My heart raced as I waited for the news, hoping that I would finally be able to leave the hospital and return to my normal life.
"Good news, Ray," the doctor said with a smile. "You're cleared to be discharged."
Relief washed over me as I heard the words I had been longing to hear. I couldn't wait to get out of the sterile, clinical hospital and breathe in the fresh air.
But as Lily gathered my things and prepared to leave, I couldn't shake the nagging feeling of uncertainty.
"Where are Sam, Jack, Phoebe, and Kira?" I asked Lily, as she helped me out of the hospital.
Lily's brow furrowed in confusion. "I'm sorry, Ray. I don't know who you're talking about."
"My friends. We usually hang out together." I tried to remind her.
"Ray, you don't really have any friends asides your football and basketball buddies. I'm your only friend and girlfriend. You're probably talking from the effects of the sedatives." she said looking at me.
My heart sank as I realized that something was obviously wrong. 'What was going on? Was this some kind of dream or nightmare?'
"Lily, what's going on?" I asked, my voice shaking. "I only remember dating Mia. How are we together?"
Lily's face softened as she reached out to take his hand. "I know this is confusing, Ray. But you and Mia broke up a few months ago. We started dating shortly after that and it's been amazing. You don't remember any of this?"
My head spun as I tried to process the information. I had always thought that Mia was the love of my life, but now I was being told that we had broken up and I was with someone else. I can't believe it.
"I'm sorry, Lily," I said, feeling guilty for not remembering her. "I don't remember you or us dating. I just want to go home and figure out what's going on."
Lily nodded sympathetically. "Of course, Ray. I'll take you to my place and we can figure this out together."
As we drove through the streets, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. This wasn't the life I remembered, and I was determined to get to the bottom of it. I just hope that I would be able to wake up and return to the reality I knew and loved.
We got to Lily's place and stayed in the cozy living room. I was still having slight headache. The warmth of the fireplace filled the air, and the aroma of apple pie wafted through the room. I sat on the couch next to Lily, who was holding my hand.
"We've been dating for a few months now," she said, smiling at me. "You make me so happy, Ray."
My heart raced. This was all some kind of dream, I realized. But it felt so real. I had to find a way to wake up and get back to the reality he knew.
Soon, I drifted off to another wave of sleep.
