I finished my lunch and went out to look for Sam around the school. I tried calling his cell phone.
No answer.
It's not like Sam to ignore a call from me. 'He must have left it in his locker or something.'
I'll head over there first and use the opportunity to get my things for the next class. Checking the time, I still had about 5 minutes to spare.
As I was passing an empty class, I heard a little disturbance and my curiosity got the best of me.
As stealthily as I could, I opened the door and there he was. While I've been bothered about his whereabouts, he was busy making out with Phoebe, his girlfriend.
They both didn't seem to notice my entry as they were both engrossed in each other. They were kissing passionately and kept on rubbing their hands all over each other.
Their lips moved eagerly against one another and their bodies seemed to be writhing against each other. They've been longing for each other's touch I can tell and I decided to watch them a bit.
Sam grabbed Kira by her waist and pulled her close to him, letting her feel how much he'd missed her. She responded by grabbing the front of his shirt and pulling it off.
As she did, Sam lifted her and carried her into a nearby corner where he threw her down gently onto a desk.
'Okay, I think that's my cue to leave,' I told myself.
The bell must have gone off because the hallway seems empty. I was so lost in their world of romance that I'd almost forgotten about my Chemistry class.
I raced down to the locker, grabbed what I needed, and dashed for the class.
Mr. Michael, our Chemistry teacher was already in the lab. I exhaled, said a short prayer, and entered. All eyes turned towards me.
"So nice of you to join us, Mr. Scott." He said sarcastically. I was only 3 minutes late or maybe 5 minutes tops but Mr. Michael won't take that. You're late so long as he enters the class before you.
I admire him though. He's one of those teachers who mixes fun with teaching. He's the main reason I started to like Chemistry considering I've always hated it and never gotten above a C+.
"I apologize for coming late," I said as I went to an empty seat and settled down, my heart racing with anxiety.
The classroom was spacious and well-lit, with rows of desks arranged in a semicircle facing the teacher's podium. The air was thick with the smell of refillable ink and floor cleaner.
"Scott..." I looked up, knowing what to expect. ".....who said you could sit? And where the hell is your partner, Sam Dylan?" Mr. Michael asked impatiently, his eyebrows furrowed in frustration.
I stood up almost immediately, regretting my seat. 'Shit!' I thought, my stomach sinking.
'I have to say something. Something intelligible.' I told myself.
Landing on Mr. Michael's bad side isn't a good way to start the year, especially as a final-year student.
While still contemplating how best to respond, I heard Mr. Michael's voice again.
"Sit down, Scott!" he ordered. I obliged, my shoulders slumping in defeat.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Michael. It won't happen again," I said, trying to keep my voice steady.
And almost immediately, Sam Dylan walked in. 'Speaking of the devil,' I thought to myself and facepalmed at his appearance.
Ruffled hair and a shirt that was wrinkled and untucked, with slightly swollen lips showing a little bit of red – a sure sign that he had been making out with someone.
"I'm sorry I'm late, Mr. Michael," Sam said as he came in, his expression sheepish. "I…. uhm…. I lost track of time during lunch."
Mr. Michael looked at both of us and sighed, his expression disappointed. "Lost track of time, huh? Well, let's hope that's the only thing you get to lose this year."
"Have your seat" he finally said, and with that, Sam came to sit beside me, his posture apologetic.
"Welcome back. I'm sure you had a wonderful time at Romance Island," I whispered to Sam, loud enough for only him to hear, without looking at him.
Knowing he would be shocked as to how I found out, I smirked and concentrated on Mr. Michael's lecture, trying to suppress my amusement.
In about 3 hours later, I, Sam, and Phoebe were leaving the school compound. The sun was shining brightly, and the heat was oppressive, making me sweat through my shirt.
The grassy lawn outside the school was dotted with students milling about, chatting, and laughing.
"Ray, what about the rest of our clique?" Sam asked me since I was the only one around for the holidays.
"Kira and Jack are supposed to be back today but you know how they are, they're probably hanging out somewhere."
" They should be around by…. "
Before I could complete my sentence, we heard a car hooting. We all stopped in our tracks and turned to see who it was, and there they were – Jack and Kira in Jack's convertible.
The car was sleek and shiny, with a bright red exterior that glinted in the sun. Our blank expression immediately put on astonishment. We all waved at them and they parked next to us.
"Speaking of the devils," I said smiling.
"What took you guys so long?" Phoebe asked as we all hugged them.
"Sorry, we got held up," Jack said as he tried to sound convincing but we all knew he was lying. Right there, we began to catch up on summer vacation.
"We should probably hang out this evening. Like a get-together." Kira suggested and we all agreed.
"My parents are holding a dinner party this evening and they said you could all come. And we can hit the club after that, our usual way. 7 O'clock?" Jack said as he got into his car.
"Now that's what I'm talking about," Sam said excitedly.
"I'll be coming with my cousin if that's fine with you guys," Kira asked.
"Sure." We all nodded in agreement and went our separate ways home, looking forward to the evening. Sam and Phoebe left in Sam's car and I picked up my bike and went home.
7 O'clock I reminded myself. Checking the time and realizing I still had almost 4 hours to rest. So I did exactly that.
I slept for almost 3 hours and when I woke up, I was famished. I checked the kitchen clock and saw that it was already 6 pm. I decided to just eat a bag of chips. Just a little since I'll be off for dinner at Jack's soon.
I was busy digging into my bag of chips when I heard a knock on the door. "It's open! " I shouted, not bothering to check who it is. We rarely get visitors though, the only frequent one being Sam.
"Hey! Sorry if I'm early," said Sam as he entered my apartment. He was carrying a brown paper bag and two bottles of beer.
"Thought we could have some snacks before heading out. " He placed the items on my small dining table and then turned to look at me with that megawatt smile of his.
"You're an angel, Sam." I dropped my bag of chips and soon, Sam and I were eating chicken wings and sipping beer.
I checked my phone as it notified me of a message.
4 new messages actually.
Jack: Where are you guys?
Phoebe: @Sam, meet me at Jack's place.
Kira: I don't think I will make it to dinner. See you all at the club.
Jack: Where in Christ's name are you guys?? 😤😤😤
I quickly typed a reply.
Me: I will be there in 20 mins or so. Sam is here with me. We'll be coming in together.
Jack: You better be😠
I tidied up the kitchen and went to freshen up, my excitement building as I anticipated the evening ahead.
Deciding what to wear, I finally settled on a pair of black jeans and a blue shirt. I needed something that would be suitable for dinner and not make me look like an idiot at the club.
My mom wasn't home yet, so there was no one left in the house as Sam and I left in my Porsche.
