Chapter 12 - Rick's Great Reckoning

Emily noticed that Rick had suddenly become a little distracted, and although his eyes fell on his new image in the mirror, his mind seemed to have drifted off into the distance. She gently walked over to his side and asked with concern, "Rick, what's wrong? Is it that you don't like the haircut, or what's wrong with the clothes?"

Rick was brought back to reality by Emily's voice, and he looked into her eyes, which were filled with genuine concern. Realizing that his silence might have upset Emily, he hastily replied, "No, Emily, I love it. The hair and the dress are great."

Emily didn't seem completely convinced as she continued to watch Rick's expression, trying to get a sense of how he really felt, "If there's anything you're not happy with or want to change, let me know and we can adjust it right away."

Rick sensed Emily's concern and he knew that she cared about his feelings, not just materialistic giving. He took a deep breath and smiled, "Emily everything is fine. I'm just thinking about some things, but they have nothing to do with all this goodness you've given me."

As night fell, Rick and Emily stopped in the middle of the busy street, both with contented and pleasant smiles on their faces. Rick's new clothes and haircut made him look brand new, while Emily was happy to be able to spend quality time with Rick.

Emily said softly to Rick, "It was really fun today, Rick. I hope we get to see each other again soon."

Rick nodded his head, his eyes filled with gratitude and anticipation, "Me too, every moment of today has been special."

They stood under a dim streetlight, surrounded by hurried pedestrians and the occasional passing car.

Rick smiled, waved goodbye, and turned to leave. Emily stood still and watched Rick's back disappear into the night, her heart filled with warmth and hope.

When she got home, Emily sat alone in her chair and looked around the quiet, familiar space as her thoughts began to go back to the time she had spent with Rick today.

She thought back to them picking out clothes together at the men's clothing store, the look of surprise on Rick's face when he put on his new clothes, and the conversations and laughter they had shared. The corners of Emily's mouth involuntarily turned up as she realized that she was really enjoying Rick's company.

As her thoughts deepened, Emily began to consider deeper issues. She knew that Rick had demonstrated great financial strength, both in his generosity when shopping and in the way he cared for her in his daily life. In her mind, she made up her mind, "If Rick really does have strong finances, it wouldn't be a problem to consider having him as a boyfriend."

And at a distance, Rick asked himself.

"Do I feel like I'm really putting my feelings into this?" He's in a bit of a turmoil here.

As the night wore on, the quiet around him contrasted with his inner turmoil.

Rick brought himself back to his senses as he stood up and walked towards the window, gazing out at the sleeping city. A voice in his mind gradually became clearer as he muttered, "I can't get myself caught up in the whirlwind of emotions now, making money is the way to go, love is still a long way off."

Rick sat in front of the desk, he opened the system interface and began to carefully scrutinize and calculate the various consumption on Emily today.

As the number of favorability continued to increase, Rick's brows gradually stretched. He began to feel a sense of accomplishment because these expenditures were not just for Emily, but were also part of his goal of realizing the Fortune Redemption System's cash withdrawal. Every penny spent was, in his opinion, a step towards success.

Rick estimated in his heart that if he could continue to invest in Emily at this rate, the day when he would reach the goodwill required by the system and thus receive the cash withdrawal reward would not be far away. He felt that he was getting closer and closer to his goal of withdrawing cash, and this feeling of being on the verge of realizing his goal filled him with motivation.

He leaned on the back of his chair, secretly calculating in his mind, "If the favorability increases to 1,000 points, I'll be able to obtain one-tenth of the amount spent. With these expenditures today, along with my previous efforts, I've already accumulated quite a bit of goodwill, so maybe I'll see a return soon."
