"Sara, what do you do when a beast that looks like a rat appears?"
Sara smiled and said, "Kill it immediately and proceed to burn the corpse!"
Rueben nodded his head, he had been teaching Sara about weaknesses of the beasts and some of their behavior, though she needs to experience it herself for her to truly know.
He had also taught her how to fight with rifles and guns, it was a pity that he had no other guns for her to use and with his bullets slowly diminishing with every use, he needed to conserved it.
"Then what would you do if more rat type beasts appear?"
Sara went silent for a while, then softly said, "Kill them all…?"
This earned her a small flick on her forehead.
Rueben clicked his tongue as he looked at Sara holding her forehead in pain.
"No, if that happens and you are overnumbered, what will you do? You will be like a sitting duck inside a swarm of sharks. IF you cannot see that they have countless more number than you, then back off slowly. A Hunter's life is more important alive than dead."
Sara nodded her head after getting scolded by him.
Rueben sighed and looked around; he didn't know how long he had been inside here.
"I wonder how long we can find an exit…." He whispered, somewhat missing the world above. He looked up at the ceiling, decayed and broken down, insects hiding within the darkness. He looked at it for a while before turning his head to Sara and softly said, "We have been walking for a long time. Get some rest. I'll guard you."
Sara looked at him, then entered his arms and snuggled herself. Rueben looked at her as she slowly went to sleep, snuggling his arms as she did so, he couldn't do anything as he also wanted her to sleep.
Rest is important if you want children to grow.
Rueben didn't close his eyes to sleep as he knew that there are dangers around him and something could happen when he's asleep, endangering both his and Sara's life. A risk he wasn't yet willing to take.
Soon, he heard Sara's soft snoring, signaling that she had fallen asleep.
Looking at her from above, he couldn't help but smile as he saw her shiver. Though there are no wind breezing through this place, it was unusually cold. Probably due to the murky, decrypted environment here.
Though he feels that those don't have any connections to how this place was cold, common sense was already broken the moment that the pandemic began, so he really didn't know how to answer the sudden question popping in his mind.
Rueben softly hummed a tune that his mother used to hum to him when he was a child, before his teacher had kidnapped him and turned him into a cold blooded Hunter. A song that he had always used to help him calm down and remember his past, to go back to the past and see his actions, choices again.
The song must've worked because Sara didn't move much aside from breathing softly, snuggling deeper in his arms, he embraced her within his arms, to help her warm up a little.
He looked at the empty space for a while, humming as he heard the moans and growls of the beast out in the distance, haunting the halls of the cellar.
Hearing them, he remembered a memory that was a long time ago, even before his teacher kidnapped him.
"Rueben. Do you want to be my child?"
Hearing the voice so clearly, Rueben looked back and only saw the wall.
He looked at the wall in surprise before shaking his head. He must really be going crazy, he can't believe he was hearing voices now.
He softly leaned his back on the wall as to not disturb Sara sleeping and silently listened to the growls of the beasts looking for prey to feed their hunger, to quench their thirst of blood.
It was just a silent moment of a man and a little lady hugging each other as the man who could very well be mistaken as her father if seen by people, hummed a soft yet soothing song as the little lady enjoyed sleep with a warm and soothing atmosphere.

Time passed and the two went to continue on their travels as Sara woke up from her sleep.
Even though they were walking on foot, Rueben didn't stop himself from teaching Sara. He needed her prepared and ready, her physical ability might be the worst but that could be improved with the use of God's Blood and her natural talent for erasing her presence completely makes her a good candidate for being a hunter.
For your information, Rueben was kidnapped by his teacher after he had seen his talent of fighting in the most optimal and efficient way possible. The old man had trained him with little to no info of the beast and just pushed him to their dens, figuratively of course.
Beasts doesn't have dens, they could not reproduce like humans or other animals, probably due to how their mind is unstable and their sanity was lost, he had not seen a beast or a monster actively mating with someone, human or not.
Though he does wonder why they do not reproduce, they have the necessary organs that were needed to create a child yet it seemed that they have no hormones within their body that makes them sexually active. They were once humans and once they turned into beasts or monsters, their entire being changes but the part of what makes them human were still there.
It was a weird topic that many researchers have tried to explain but with the unending unease that is the Pale Monster disease, they could barely get a corpse of a beast without a hunter suddenly burning it to get rid of the infection.
Rueben looked through his Ichor Siphons and found that he only had a little over 13 left, he could carry 25 at all times but it seemed that he was using them up faster than he had thought.
Rueben put this matter on his checklist mentally as he continued on.
