Chapter 1 - Goodbye | History

To my first love who is reading this...

I leave this world with many regrets, but there was one thing I don't regret, and that was falling for you and giving my heart to you.

Even though you had only been my friend.

I pray that you will live a life to the fullest.

Not for my sake but for your own good…

I guess I also need to inform you about something, like my life and the true me, I guess.

I was born from a common family on Earth, strangely enough I'm conscious, the moment I opened my eyes I could tell I'm different.

My parents are dumbly religious enough to believe that I'm possessed by some demon or evil spirit.

I guess staying silent while I am a baby made me out of place.

Either way it looks that way to me.

But I don't have any memories of my past life of sorts.

I continue to live my life going to school meeting people and stuff.

A boring world if I must say.

But then, one day I noticed it… I noticed strange lights...

This happened when I was on a field trip in the mountains.

I notice faint flickering lights.

But unlike the common lights these lights produce a strange energy instead of being empowered by energy.

I subconsciously grab one of these lights and since then, my life on Earth has changed drastically.

I stopped going to school.

I skipped classes.

My parents didn't really care about me.

So when I turned 16 I left home.

In their eyes I am an eyesore.

They only bother to support me to not lose face to their relatives.

I search for places where these lights… no I call them 'elemental energy' is abundant.

In my search I noticed that there were almost none present in the city where pollution is worst.

I can only spot a few in the mountains.

So I started living in the mountains trying to study these lights more.

I live a life of a sagely hermit.

Ten years passed, I'm already an adult but also an elemental.

Yeah… I call myself an elemental. I have the power to control the elements of nature.

And not just any control like creating a water ball, I can confidently claim that I can create natural disasters enough to decimate an entire city into nothing.

In my ten years of seclusion I discovered shocking secrets hidden from the masses.

I didn't just become an elemental, I was also able to establish a connection to the world which in turn allowed me to peer through the past and present.

It seems that huge hidden organizations calling themselves mages, sorcerers, and magus had established a powerful foothold in the world.

Facing them were the Church harnessing the power of belief to fend off and harass the so-called magic users.

But in my perspective both parties were the same.

To begin with their powers were the same the only difference is the concept used to harness and use such powers.

Mages use the power of mana, an almost omnipotent form of energy that is able to be anything.

As for the church they use the power of belief, the same as mana it is an omnipotent energy that could do almost anything.

They've been fighting for hundreds of thousands of years now.

Living ten years in seclusion and establishing a connection to the world made me realize how fragile life was.

I exited the mountain and returned to society.

My looks didn't change much after becoming an elemental, the same goes for my mental age.

I once again became a student.

My identification card labeled me as an orphan.

Or so what I made the social worker do.

I tap in her mind a bit; I feel a bit bad though, either way she's ok, so there's no worries.

So, thanks to that kind social worker, I got a fake identity.

Fake / Real

Kai d'Arc Valentine / Kent Sakurai

16 years old male / 26 years old

It was a normal first day in school.

I met a girl she isn't a peerless beauty probably about above average, but the purity of her soul is out of this world.

I tried befriending her, and she accepted me.

Time passed and we enjoyed each other's company.

I know that I have developed feelings for her, and she has the same for me.

Unfortunately, I don't have the courage to confess.

Yeah, I'm a coward. Even though she displayed obvious liking to me and was only waiting for me to do the first move.

I am a real coward because I knew, I knew she didn't have much time felt to live.

She didn't have cancer or any noteworthy disease.

Her life force is unnaturally low something unique for a human.

I left trying to find a way to prolong her life trying to find a way to save her but regardless of what I do I couldn't find one.

I lack the resources.

This world also lacks the resources.

I became desperate and reached out my hand to the mages, sorcerers, and magus.

But they have their own agendas, and they're too greedy.

They even attempted to use her to control me, so I retaliated.

A fight broke out.

The news about a terrorist attack in Europe, China, and other countries days ago wasn't true.

It was my doing…

My clash with the mages, sorcerers, and magus to protect her resulted in the destruction equivalent to multiple nuclear bombs being used.

That's just how fearsome phenomena users were.

And then the church got involved.

I was forced to flee, but before doing so, I killed all that knew my identity, cleaning my tracks so no one could connect me to her.

I returned to the country and found out that she's already and death's door.

The same goes for me…

I am terribly injured, I couldn't live long, my elemental circuits and newly made mana circuits were contaminated by the church's so-called blessings that were more like a curse.

So I did what I think is the last thing I can do.

I controlled the entire hospital, manipulating the mind of the doctors and nurses.

I made sure to make it look like everything is just a common operation.

I gave my heart to her… I hope she lives a happy life and have a family of her own.

I made sure that the mages, sorcerers, magus, and the church couldn't track her down.

My heart is something else she'll probably live around 200 or more years.

I hope she forgave me for troubling her.

I apologize for lying all this time…

I enjoyed being her friend… I really hope she doesn't hate me for this.

P.S

I love you… and goodbye… Kianna

I left a journal about my studies of elements, how to become an elemental, how to harness mana and how to establish a connection to the world, it's in my apartment.

My keys are under the floor mat…

Tears fell…

Soon, the handwritten letter was drenched in tears.

Kianna's vision blurred as the tears in her eyes fell like rain.

"Kai, I'm sorry,"

Kianna held the letter close to her new chest that was once his.

"I'm sorry, I apologize for burdening you. I am sorry… because of me, you died."

"I'm so useless."

Out of nowhere a blue holographic screen appeared before her.

[Don't go blaming yourself, I know you enough to know what's running through that brain of yours.]

[I would surely come back as a vengeful spirit and give you a firm smack in the head for being an idiot.]

[This is a prerecorded message to make sure you believe me…]

[GOOD BYE… AND STOP BLAMING YOURSELF… THIS IS A REQUEST… FROM YOURS TRULY…]

[This is confidential, but reincarnation is real so stop wasting your tears, we might see each other again if our fates and destiny allows it.]

[Unfortunately, I am relatively certain that I ain't going to be reincarnated back there on Earth, that planet is on its last straws, a few thousand years from now… no... maybe a hundred or so and that planet is done for.]

[We might see each other again…]

[See you… idiot…]

"You bastard…"

Kianna cursed a faint smile on her teary face.
