While she was looking at the woman that was walking towards them, she noticed, that she was not really coming to her, she was walking towards the door.
Amanda traced where she was looking at, and saw that she was staring at a figure, that was standing by the entrance, she had a model kind of figure, and she wore glasses, that suit her so well, her red lipstick was visible, and having gotten the attention of almost every one in the hospital hall, she walked majestically towards Mrs Brown, her smile remained, never leaving her pretty face. Amanda thought she was the most beautiful lady.
It was as if they were on slow motion, as Mrs Brown walked towards the lady, Amanda could also see that her mother inlaw, whom she seldom sees, was indeed a beauty, she also, never leave her house unattended, she must attend to her face, and her skin, she sure, knows how to keep her man, a woman like that, would never allow any girl, take her husband away from her, because, she would keep herself young and elegant at all times.
At her age, she still had a flawless skin and walked elegantly with style, she never leaves her house unattended, she must attend to her face and body else she wouldn't leave, for fear people might notice her or see her looking shaby.
Even if she had been called out of bed and told that her son had been involved in an accident, she would have still made sure she had her makeup done, and would never wear anything of low class especially if she was coming towards the mainland.
What does she want now? She thought to herself. They were not told to stop and wait but the way she walked towards them showed she wanted to say something to them.
The lady she had been looking at, stood a far distance from them, she seem to pause, she got a call, and walked back outside to take the call.
"Hello bitch, I see your prayer got answered and my son is out of Danger, but I just came to tell you to never in your boring life, call my son your husband again. You Lost the right to call him your husband. Yes you Lost it, the very moment you opened your legs to sleep with another man, and then get pregnant". Mrs Brown was really harsh with her statement. Amanda was close to tears.
Now she wished the Earth would open and swallow her, she could swear Maxwell was aware of the situation, but the way her mother inlaw put it sounded too awful, and there was Joy who had no idea what was happening, she didn't even know Amanda was pregnant, but now she had heard too much, she looked at Amanda with shock and Amanda couldn't hold back the tears anymore, she allowed it flow without opening her mouth, her tears were dropping, her heart was heavy, her vision was becoming blur, she could only think of food at the moment and a bed rest, but she fought the feeling of fainting, she was never going to give her mother inlaw the satisfaction.
She was expecting her brother and her friend to leave her that instant and walk away but her brother only shocked her.
"Are you done with your blabbing?, if yes, please step aside, my sister needs to eat" Amanda was shocked, she looked up at her brother, even though her eyes were blurred, she could see a devious smile, on his face.
That was huge for her, she wished she could hug him, and tell him how much standing for her in front of her enemy, meant to her, she looked up at him with her teary eye and her silent words spoke her gratitude to which Maxwell nodded before leading her out.
Mrs Brown hadn't expected such response from Maxwell, she had never really known the kind of person Maxwell is, but she knew she commanded respect, and people were usually scared of her, people of low class hardly speak, when she spoke and she atleast have met him during the wedding and he was almost worshipping her, when did he grow so much as to talk back at her. She was so angry.
She watch as they walk away with her.
"You are crazy". Was all she could say out of anger. Amanda heard her, and could not help, but to laugh her heart out.
At the restaurant Maxwell ordered for fried rice, chicken, and apple juice for Amanda because that was actually her favorite especially if she was really hungry, while joy wanted only burger saying she ate before receiving Amanda's call.
Now that they were all aware of the situation, it was time for Amanda to tell them what was going on. They needed to hear from her, and to know how to help her. It was Joy who spoke up first.
"Amanda, are you really pregnant with another man's child?
She had expected the question and even if she didn't ask, she wanted to tell them, but her brother stopped her by raising her hand.
"Finish your food first, there is plenty of time, I am not going away just yet, so you can tell us when you are ready"
Joy didn't seem to like it, she wanted to get the entire story, but she also saw the point Maxwell was trying to make, Amanda sure looks hungry and tired, she must have gone through a lot so she affirmed by nodding her head.
They all silently enjoyed their meal. Maxwell was not eating, he just took a bottle of water, but tried to encourage Amanda to eat very well, by eating with her. Soon, the food on her plate, was finished, and her brother, had to order for another one, she gladly accepted, that was to show how hungry she really was.
By the time she was done, he allowed her relax a little, she was belching and stretching herself, to show how tired she was, after a while, it was time for them to go back to the hospital, they have spent close to an hour already and silently they went back to the hospital.
