Chapter 29 - Growing Popular (2)

When Jeffrey asked Caoline to suit herself he never thought things would become like this. He honestly didn't care what went on around him as long as he didn't get caught up in it.

Jeffrey held up his phone and failed Little-Chibi's number.

"Hi, how are you doing?" Caroline's excited voice came from the phone.

"You placed me in the eye of a storm how do you think I'm doing?" Jeffrey in a cold tone even though he was being sarcastic.

"Err...I did ask your permission" Caroline defended.

"What did you even post?" Jeffrey sighed.

"Nothing much, just a screenshot of your review"

"That doesn't sound bad then how come things are blowing out of proportion"

"Week that's the internet for you. I'm sort of busy now, talk later bye" Caroline hang up and Jeffrey stared at the phone with an unreadable expression.

'Why can't people just be normal' he decided to spend the rest of the time in his room until things blew away but alas he still had to confront the same thing during dinner.

"As much I love silence, your constant gazes are ridding me of my freedom to eat peacefully. So please say what's on your mind"

Seeing the direction things were going, Philip excuse himself and dragged Serena with him upstairs.

"Listen Sun..."

Jeffrey's face cringed but he held himself back from commenting least his mother hit him with a spoon.

"Your sister complained that you are helping others while ignoring her?" Tina said with a tired look on her face. She loved her kids but Moon and Jeffrey were both more than she bargained for she thought they would tone it down a bit as they grew but boy was she wrong.

Jeffrey always spoke without filter and even though he didn't mean any harm, his words made people upset.

She had read through many books on parenting and her final guess was no one with a child like Jeffrey would even bother writing such books.

The culprit of Tina's worries had long dropped his utensils and had his gaze hovering around Moon.

"Since this topic has been brought up again then let me make myself clear enough. I don't care about Little-Chibi and neither do I care if she's your rival. What I did was making sure a good book stayed on its part. You know the reason I have never read your book, do we have to do this again?" Jeffrey said.

"Who do you think you are to look down on my book? Do you know how many people read it, you're just one person" Moon reacted and slammed her palms on the table.

Tina was about to react but her husband held her back and took her away quietly. "If you keep stopping them their relationship will never get better"

"But what if hurt..."

"Leave them be, they can take care of their self"

Back to the dining table.

"Even a book about a talking stone will have views. There's nothing fresh about your book, it's just like every other storyline but with different characters heck even the characters are so normal. And stop being proud about your book count, you should try asking your fans what they actually like about your book and you might be surprised you're standing high because of mom and dad" Jeffrey paused before sighing.

Going against Moon on normal days might be fun but today was different he was not enjoying the conversation but he just had to say it.

"If you really think of Little-Chibi as a rival then you should read at least one of her books you might understand what I mean. I believe a book defines an author...and every book has a spirit" when he said the last part his eyes widened and he left the dining table without saying anything else.

Jeffrey opened his room door and went straight to his desk without paying attention to Philip and Serena who were giving him strange looks.

"Are you okay?" Philip asked a bit concerned but Jeffrey didn't respond and from the look on his face, he could tell he wasn't even listening.

"Maybe the fight was bad?" Serena whispered and Philip shrugged.

He knew Jeffrey would not get himself wrapped up in an emotional drama so he was completely sure there was something else going on.

Meanwhile, Jeffrey was deep in thought, remembering what happened that day after he opened the book.

'It was blank I remember that clearly and after that the book disintegrated into nothingness. What I have is only a speculation and the clues are too few so I can't be sure' but then he got an idea and dialed Caroline's number.

"Hello Jeffrey" Caroline answered the phone with a tired voice.

Jeffrey noticed it but decided to ignore it as he had more important things to think about. "Can you do me a favor?"

"Is something wrong?"

"No. I'm sending you a photo post it and see if anyone of your fans know what it is"

"You do still remember I'm your sister's age right?"

"Please" Jeffrey said indifferently. He was in no mood for jokes. The reason he asked for Caroline's help was because she had a lot of followers most of whom were her viewers and the Viewers Dimension had it all, well most of it.

Anyway, Jeffrey searched for the piece of paper he drew on yesterday and after finding it he immediately took a photo of it and sent it to Caroline.

He then dropped his phone on the desk and only then did he notice Philip and Serena's strange gaze.

"What?"

"Nothing" the twins answered before Serena find her way out.

"You can talk now," Philip said before sitting on the bed.

"Talk about what?"

Jeffrey was confused at first but after seeing Philip's dead eyes he understood what his friend meant.

"I've not found anything yet but I might...soon"

"I'm so glad I'm involved in this. It's like a mystery movie and at the end of the day, the strange man might be someone you least expect" Philip said dramatically making Jeffrey roll his eyes.

After that, they went to bathe and decided to continue Pure Assassin for half of the night.
