"Yes I can....."
These three words kept echoing in his mind even as the two persons had left. He didn't know why, but he agreed. He agreed to an impossible task. Despite his consciousness screaming no, he still said yes.
He sat down on one of the fancy seats in the room as he went through the files regarding the creature he was to perform a surgery on. It was an insane task, mostly for someone like him who had little knowledge about the outer life, let alone the anatomy of an alien.
He had little time before the operation would commerce. According to the elderly man who's name was Daniel, but was referred to as "The Engineering and Technology Directorate, ETD."
He was the perfect doctor for the job, no other was good enough. Oh how he wished he had the same confident in himself.
"Dr Murphy the surgery room is set. Are you ready?." Daisy suddenly asked from behind.
"If I said no would it be postponed?."
"You know it needs to be done now Doc."
"Then why bother askin'. Let's get this over with." He grumbled as he walked past her.
She rolled her eyes in annoyance and cursed silently before meekly following him. They both put on their surgical attire and gathered within the seemingly unconscious creature. The tools were set and everything was ready, except for his heart. He was feeling very tensed.
"Has she been given anesthesia?." He promptly asked.
"Yes and it's not a she."
"Fuck Jesus Christ!. What the hell is wrong with you!?." He lividly yelled.
"I don't appreciate your tone Doc."
"Yeah, niether do I. So you keep doing shit like this and we'll both end up screwing this up. Maybe then you'll learn some manners."
"I wasn't tryna to sound offensive Dr Murphy. All am saying is we shouldn't treat it as human, it's anatomy isn't the same as ours. I just want to make sure we're clear on that."
"I know that, am not stupid. However, niether of us has operated on an alien before. So there's not much of an option. Not to mention your an astrobiologist. So this is my field, no offense."
She rolled her eyes as her lips twitched while she nonchalantly muttered. "None taken. Now can we get back to work?."
"Whatever, just hand me the clamps, curettes, and dissectors."
"Here." She carefully handed the tools to him.
He heaved a sigh and then went into work with his hands and tools. Using his scissors to cut
and create a small incision in the flesh of the creature. Exposing what seemed like a whitish part, it's skull. He used his rongeurs to create a window within the bone.
"Hand me the spreaders and Elevators."
She meekly obeyed and did as she was told, and from time to time he requested for more tools with which he used to perform what seemed like a miracle. Daisy was undeniably impressed by how easy he made it seem. After correcting the problem, he requested for some hooks and probes and a few other required tool with which he used to replace and seal the craniotomy of the alien. Before further sealing up the skin surface with a surgical laser.
After the they were done with the surgery which seemed quite successful despite their doubts. The alien was carefully transported back into it's coven as the surgeons retired to rest and prayed silently for success.
