Chapter 9 - Chapter Nine. Chemical Reaction.

Inside the ISAS confinement base, Eddie and Daisy were both under intense pressures as they sought to revive the dead alien. Daisy was trying new chemical compound combinations with the stirring and mixing devices. Eddie was also assisting her and making sure the alien's pulse was still beating. Fortunately the alien was still breathing, but it seemed to be dying.

"Is it done?." Eddie asks, desperation and anxiety filled his face.

"I think." She murmurs, "Though am not certain if this would prevent the spread of the virus."

"Yeah well let's try it and see what happens."

"Okay."

She hurriedly transferred the content into her syringe before gently piercing it into the alien's flesh and emptied the green liquid into it. Few seconds after the injection, the alien suddenly began to shake like it was having a seizure. It's heart rate skyrocketed and it's eyes widened as it whimpered in pains. It's limps and arms were restrained to the lab desk and prevented it from tearing off it's insides to dig out the pains it was feeling.

"Fuck Daisy!. Are you sure we didn't just make things worse!?." Eddie panicked.

"The chemicals I mixed up are the opposites of the one you gave it. This is probably a reaction due to the colliding of the two opposites."

"I dunno Daisy. But this reaction doesn't seem normal."

"Nothing is normal about this whole operation Dr Murphy."

After moments of shaking and wincing from the pains, the alien eventually stopped. It's body was still twitching like that of a not so dead reptile, but it's heart rate was steadily beating. It had survived likewise their jobs.

"Oh my God it worked!. It worked!!." Daisy suddenly blurted out in excitement.

In the euphoria of happiness, she sprang unto him and hugged him tightly. He was also too excited to protest and so he reciprocated. She let go off him after moments of realization. Her cheeks turned crimson and she blushed profusely.

"We..em better get it back into the capsule." He stammered.

"Yeah of course." She promptly retorted.

As they both clumsily tried lifting the alien's lab desk but mistakenly bumped their heads. They grunted silently while contemporaneously rubbing their foreheads and on looking at each other's face, they burst into a hearty laughter. It was Indeed much more hilarious from a third person's view.

The laughter finally died down, but their stares didn't. Somehow they were both lost in their eyes, their thoughts, their feelings. He admired her round blue eyes and she liked the moisture look of his lips. She suddenly wanted to feel it against hers and so she leaned in, and so did he. Their lips were only inches away from meeting the other when the sudden squealing noise of the alien interrupted them.

They quickly hauled and stopped, averting their gazes as they chuckled awkwardly. Eddie bit his lips nervously and was first to break up the silence.

"Let's get this ugly dough back into it's oven shall we?." He jokingly says.

"Okay Dr Murphy." She laughed softly.

They carefully returned the alien into it's pod and sealed it off once more. They also took the time to take off their bloodied uniforms and slip into their ordinary attires. The medics had tended to their injuries and also did a few tests to know if they'd been infected. Fortunately the results tested positive and so they escaped being quarantined. So while taking the elevator Eddie suddenly made a bizarre suggestion.

"How about we call it a day." He said. "And go grab something in one of those fancy local restaurants."

"Yeah sure I'd like that." She responded almost immediately.

It felt almost as if she'd been hoping for the occurrence such scenerio, or perhaps she was not used to being asked out. It was a courtesy of her line of work that jeopardized all her relationships. She wasn't getting younger even though she looked young. She was desperate and her little dating app had yielded no remedy to her predicament.

"Great. You're paying though."

"Really?." She says, "I thought your paying."

"Now why would you think that." He whispered with a mischievous smirk on his face.

The top button of the elevator suddenly glowed in indication that they'd arrived to their desired destination. The doors slid open and Eddie was first to walk out.

"Okay whatever you say." She succumbed, "let me first inform the ECD on all our recent progress."

"Yeah sure, you do that."

She nodded while smiling shyly as she walked away. While he casually leaned on his car and patiently waited for her. She returned after a few minutes, beaming with smiles and unable to conceal the growing excitement.

"Am ready." She said.

"Alright get in, let's go."

She gently opened the car door and entered into the car. He was already seated on the driver's seat and had his leg placed on the brakes. He kicked the car engine to life and switched to a music channel on his radio. They drove off from the premises and into the open wild highway.
