Chapter 4 - The Girl Within The Mirror (Side Story)

Spinoff Chapter - Rukia's Story.

Inside the hollow mirror, lies a chamber of unrequited reflections. But perhaps they weren't just reflections, what if those things weren't just things. What if they were real, just like you and me?

I awoke to the bleak morning burnishing onto my bronze skin and the sun climbing the ether elegantly. I slowly rose, revealing a neatly kept room that I worked so hard to keep that way. Then I let the fragrant air sooth into my nostrils. Oh how the morning stung my nose, the aroma was good but pungent. I could nearly taste the cinnamon-like smell. My puffy fro drooped down from my bonet and blanketed my face. My usually cerulean eyes gleamed in the sun's radiance as I waltzed to my mirror.

I glared into the mirror, longing to see something more than I. More than me, more than us. But in the end, those rumors about another realm bordering the mirror was only a lie, was it not? But as my hand eclipsed against the silver framing of the mirror, something looked a tad bit different. Perhaps it was the wall or my skin shining oddly, I couldn't quite put my finger on it. All I knew was something was off.

As time slowly passed, I went to school and hung out with a plethora of my friends. Then we went to the local cafe, the food was quite delectable but we all ended up going home roughly thirty minutes after. Slowly the sun came churning down from the heavens, and the moon climbed it. The air was thick and cold as I sauntered down the crowded streets. I planned on heading home, but it seemed I wouldn't be heading there for a while.

Because that's when it occurred. His hair was spiky and red and his eyes gleamed an azure color. Despite his unique features, he had a dull look on his face, perhaps he was bored or annoyed, I couldn't tell. Abruptly, his shoulder crashed into mine, and we both shared a long glance, until suddenly he spoke.

"Oh, my bad!" He exclaimed, he'd reach to the ground to grab my purse, I hadn't noticed I dropped it though.

I flashed him a quick smile, "It's alright." Then I grabbed the purse from his slender hands.

He flashed me a smile too, oh how I loved his smile. His lips scrunched up in a circular motion and his eyes squinted just a tiny bit. Then he waved goodbye, and just like that. Our fate had been concealed. Later on that week, I found out that boy attended the same school I did. I wanted to truly meet him, but why? It was as if our fates were interlocked with each other.

The next day came rushing, I awoke to the same schedule. I'd look in the mirror, to see nothing much had changed, but it still looked as if something was off. What was it that was off? Maybe it was the shade of my brown skin or the way my eyes reverberated from the sun's gradual raise.

I quickly put on my clothes and head out the door, the world around me enveloped slowly. I barely noticed I didn't have my glasses on. In fact, I hadn't worn them for the past few days.

Then there he was again. His spiky red hair was easy to see as everyone else had natural shade hair. For a mere moment, me and his eyes shared a glance, this was a moment I'd treasure. But then her eyes shattered from each other's connection, then we'd continue on with our day.

Asuka Chihiro was one of the four class reps, and she was arguably the most famous one. Not because she was "cool", but because she was a walking rule book. Despite that, the boys flocked her. However, I hung out with her because we were childhood friends.

I remember that day vividly, the flies swarmed my braids as she sauntered over. Then she'd swiftly whip out a bottle of bug spray, then she epicly sprayed the liquid all over the bugs. Ever since that day we had been close friends.

I slowly creeped into her classroom, where I'd see her yelling at the same boy from earlier. This time his usual dull expression was him attempting to hold in a laugh. I began to walk over to the scene.

"Asuka relax, give the poor boy a break." I'd say, then I'd glance over to him.

Asuka glanced at me and smiled. "Whatever Rukia." She said then slithered back into her seat.

The boy sighed loudly, then looked at his paper assignment. "Thanks for saving me, I was sure I was going to die." He said to me whilst looking at the assignment.

"N-no problem!" I choked on words, I didn't believe he remembered me but that didn't matter. The simple exchange of his words lit a spark within me.

As the sun lathered onto our faces, we began to converse on trivial things. I wish I could experience these things once more. But as I walked home and entered my home, I glanced into the mirror.

The horror soothed onto my face, my mouth erupted open and my body trembled in terror. Everything was different, even I was. The me in the mirror was quite the same, but our eyes gleamed differently, while mine were a shade of blue, hers were pure scarlet. And a sinister smile corrupted her face, and as the moonlight lathered onto our faces something had happened. The other me reached her hand through the mirror, and reeled me into her world. But as she did that, she leapt into my world.

We had exchanged worlds.
