#Chapter6
---Nyx, the good person-03
Owen frowned upon hearing that name. Just like Nyx had guessed, he wasn’t happy at all to hear about him. /"Why do you want to know that all of a sudden?/" His voice lowered, and Nyx heard him walking away from all the chaos he was in. He must have walked into a quiet room. /"Weren’t you the one who said you would forget about him? What are you trying to do, Nyx? He’s already married, and you know it./"
The last sentence pierced Nyx right through her heart. Irritated, she snapped at Owen. /"I know that. I’m not trying to do anything. Just give me an address. It’s not like I’m going to show up at his house./"
Owen had studied computer engineering abroad, but instead of finding a job in his grandfather's company like Walter had hoped, he went ahead and decided to code games for a living. He spent all the time in front of a screen working, and then in his free time he spent more time in front of that screen. Nyx didn't care much if her brother went blind one day because of the amount of time spent in the computer, but she cared about the fact that this idiot would use his knowledge to hack her phone to track her down because Elinor ordered him to do so.
I sneaked out of the house just once, mom. Just ONCE!!! And I went to McDonald's. I don't see what the big deal is!
/"Why do you want to know where he works?/" Owen sounded annoyed, which only angered Nyx even more, but she knew that all this anger had nothing to do with Owen. She was angry at herself and this stupid coincidence that brought her to James. Owen was only trying to protect her in his own way.
Knowing this, Nyx took a deep breath in and talked with a tired voice. /"I will explain when I come there, okay? Just give me the damned address./"
/"Nyx…/"
/"Owen, please./"
On the other end of the call, Nyx heard her brother sigh in defeat. Faint noises were heard as Owen stood up. /"Let me grab my laptop first./"
/"Mn./" Nyx hummed in response. She bit the corner of her lip, playing with the piercing there while wondering how she was going to tell Owen what had happened. It wasn’t her fault. And James came out of the blue. It’s not like she did all this on purpose.
The faint noise of Owen typing was heard followed by a few clicks. Then there was silence. Nyx felt like there was a knot in her throat, choking her up as she waited for Owen to say anything.
/"Did you find him?/" She hesitantly asked.
/"He… he’s working in the police department in this city… it has been three years now…/" Owen stopped talking for a second, thinking whether he should ask or not. /"Did you meet him?/"
Nyx looked up at the car’s headliner and sighed. /"I did./"
/"… Did… did he…/"
Nyx didn’t have to hear the full question to understand what Owen wanted to know. A sad smile appeared in her face, almost as if she was mocking herself. /"No. He didn’t./"
/"Why do you want to know…/"
/"I stole his car. Need to give it back./" Nyx decided on telling him the truth.
/"NYX!/" Owen yelled, making Nyx move the phone away from her ear again.
/"I just needed my jar, okay?/"
/"How is that even related to this?!/"
/"I will explain later. Just give me the damned address!!!/"
/"Okay, okay. Geez!/" Owen hung up the phone. One minute later, he sent the address to Nyx via text. She barely had time to read it when he called her again. /"You better get your ass over here as soon as possible and explain everything./" Then he hung up again.
Explain what? Even I don’t know what the fuck is going on. Why the hell did I have to meet him now? And even worse, in such a fucked up way? He was supposed to be in a different city. Why is he here?
Nyx glanced at the photo in her hand, her eyes falling on James's big smile one last time before putting it back in the wallet and driving away.
As the car drove away, Neil Lawson walked out of the café near Eris company with two cups of coffee in his hands, but his car with his hungover little brother in it, was nowhere to be seen.
/"Where the fuck did that goon go? He even took my car!/"
Nyx had to google the address of the place because she was that bad with directions, she couldn’t even find the police station. It took her about half an hour to finally find the place. She parked the car near the entrance of the police station and stared at it for a while before taking her eyes off.
It’s okay. This is a big city. Just because he lives here now, it doesn’t mean that I will see him again.
After trying to convince herself, Nyx got out of the car, locked it and walked away as if nothing was wrong. While she was walking to the closest bus station, Lucy finally decided to call her.
/"Nyx, whose car did you get in?/"
Nyx: ̄へ ̄
You're asking me this now?
/"Where are you?/"
/"Me? Oh, I saw you drive away and assumed that you didn't need me anymore and I was craving some sweets. So I drove to the bakery near the company./"
Nyx had the sudden urge to smack Lucy in the back of her head. She's lucky she’s pregnant. /"Sometimes I really worry about you, you know?/"
Lucy ignored her and asked another question. /"Owen called me about that lunch thing today. Do you need me to drive you there?/"
It seemed like Owen hadn’t told her about James yet. He probably thought it would be better if Nyx told her herself.
/"Can you pick me up at the bus station near the police?/"
From the other end of the call, Nyx heard Lucy gasp loudly. /"You got arrested?!
Nyx snorted. /"Of course not. Just pick me up. I will explain it to you later./"
/"Oh, okay. I’m on my way. And you better get your fucking motorbike fixed because I'm not your personal driver. I'm not driving you anywhere anymore./"
/"Yes, ma'am./" Nyx rolled her eyes and hung up the phone.
