Chapter 64 - Blinding

Everyone on the bridge aboard the Shore was currently looking at an missile that was increasingly speeding up towards it's targets. It had already went Hypersonic.

There was a small timer to the side that showed the ETA on Impact. As all eyes were glued to the central projection, it had already zoomed in as far as it could, Now it only showed a red bleep that was marked.

"30 Seconds till Impact." Someone said.

Although the Frizter wasn't a really powerful missile, the circumstances of the target wasn't normal so no one really knew what to expect. Dr. Kbom expected a small explosion. That might or might not even destroy the monolith.

He had seen the data. There was a 50% chance that the resulting explosion wouldn't do anything. There was another 50% chance that it could create a huge chain reaction that might have more effect that anyone might think.

"What's the payload of the fritzer again?", One of the military officers asked.

"It's reporting as a normal warhead. But something is missing and there are a few error when trying to disable the warhead. So we can't say for sure.", Lieutenant Holland replied.

"Have you tried asking him?", The Officer pointed towards Kita.

"He didn't reply to that question."

"1o Seconds", Someone reported again.

The Timer turned into zero.

The missile had impacted.

Everyone held their breaths to see what happened next.

Suddenly, There was flood of light B1 that blinded the cameras and everyone looking at the projection.

As everyone squinted to look at the magnitude of the explosion. It proved insufficient to block out the bright light. The light coming off of B1 overshadowed the 2 suns by a huge margin and flooded the whole star system. It was an explosion on ungodly proportions. There was no sound as Sound couldn't travel through the space. But everyone could only imagine what would the explosion would sound like.

The Flood of light continued for a few minutes before it started to go down in intensity. Suddenly, there was a alarm on the bridge.

"There is a huge wave of Radiation coming our way. Increasing the power levels of the energy shields. Brace for impact." One of the operators said.

A huge wave of radiation, Electro magnetic pulses and other stuff flowed over them. Thankfully, they were already at the edge of the system, So the impact on them was minimal. Thankfully they were fully prepared this time, So nothing major happed aboard the shore this time.

"Quick, Zoom in of B1. I want to see the aftermath. And explosion of that proportions should be devastating." Dr. Kbom quickly instructed the projection operator.

He quickly manipulated the projection and presented a view of the planet.

Gasps could be heard as soon as the planet came into view. It was unlike anything anyone had imagined.

"This....", Dr. Kbom was struck stupefied beyond words. No matter what he expected. No matter what he calculated, He wasn't ready for what he witnessed. No one was.

The Planet they knew as B1 was currently charred Black. It was like a huge piece of burning Coal. With red lines running throughout that indicated the hotspots.

The Planet initially was really huge with a really big mass. But currently it looked like it was just a piece of Burning rock.

"Is that a split in the middle of the plant?", Someone pointed that out.

That's when they noticed.

The planet had been split clean from the middle like something had chopped it in half.

The 2 half had a clear divide between them and one could see the other side of the planet.

This was a shocking event. That single Fritzer caused the whole planet to be actually split in two!

Everyone could only imagine what had happened during the explosion.

Dr. Kbom had no words to describe it. Even if the laymen didn't understand, but as a researcher, He knew how much power and energy it would take to split apart a planet of that scale.

It was lower than what humanity generally used in a given war.

It was totally unexplainable. He needed to check and verify the data before he could come up with a hypothesis.

But there was another question that was circulating in everyone's mind. The man who was responsible for this event was currently sitting in a corner. Eagerly looking at the ruined planet with stars in his eyes. His face was plastered with a huge smile that was unmatched by any. The Content clear in his eyes. Least to say, he had succeeded in his goal to destroy the monolith. That was all that mattered.

Dr. Kbom looked at him.

'What did he do to cause this?', Dr. Kbom felt entirely inadequate to answer this question.

He could only theorize, but no matter what he could think of off the top of his head, he felt like wouldn't be able to raze a planet like Kita did.

As he watched Kita grin at the projection he felt like he was looking at a monster. A monster that was capable of destroying a whole mega planet by himself.

That couldn't be. Dr. Kbom refused to believe that such a method of mass destruction existed. Maybe Kita had used another approach. But what exactly? He needed to figure it out.

As everyone slowly came out of their initial shock. All of them looked at Kita. But his smile unsettled them. He had just destroyed an entire planet by himself. Yet, he sat there, Smiling like an idiot with a content expression.

This was horrifying to many. Many of them knew Dr. Kita as the head of the researchers. They knew him a soft and Hardworking individual. Yet. Before them was a madman.

Many couldn't digest this. And some even threw up as their stomach couldn't handle it.

Lieutenant Holland watched the general reaction of the public before giving out the order.

"Take him to the confinement cell. He shall remain there until a decision has been made on further actions."

A few guards picked him up and took him out of the bridge.

Once he left, everyone continued to watch the still burning planet. Some gratified in their heart but horrified to witness the destruction. Some just outright horrified on the implications of such applications of technology.

No matter what, none of them could guess the actual reason of this mass destruction.
