Chapter 9 - The Value of Life

The value of life wasn't something that could be measured by something. Some measured it with the the value of the person who that life belonged to, Some measure it with the value it presented to them. But one thing that was consistent throughout it all was the 'value'. It was the one thing they used to decide whether the live in question is valuable or not. Most often than not, people care little about someone they don't know dying. But if it presented some opportunity for them, even better.

The Arcorn empire valued the life of it's researchers very much. Each researcher was a valuable asset in their eyes. Although not all might accomplish great things in the future that'll bring humanity to a whole another level, But the main concept was, Every researcher played their part in advancing the technological level of humanity as a whole. Every little accomplishment counted. No matter how small they were, if that meant that someone else down the line would bank upon their work and do something big for every human, then even better. For this reason, The Arcorn empire never left any of it's researchers behind.

The Mission to the V point was a really critical mission, and everyone on-board the Shore was the best of the best in their respective fields. Everyone was the leader in their fields and made great accomplishments to benefit the Arcorn empire. For this reason, even the small team that was being sent to the 4 planets were also really important. Their safety needs to be guaranteed at all costs.

For this reason, Colonel Fred decided to send in the 3rd Reign Horns as the escort for this mission. Colonel Fred was the leader of the 1st Yorkshire Horns that was sent on this mission on-board the shore. The mechs provided crucial support for such occasions where the main guns of the shore couldn't really provide much support. In these cases mechs were the best of both worlds. With high firepower and defense, mechs were perfect for tight spaces where the big guns couldn't really do much.

The 3rd Reign Horns were a balanced division that focused on Both offense and defense. With a combination of Elite Rifleman and Knight mechs that could provide protection even under the most precarious situations. They were prefect for escort missions and were equipped with the load out to handle any situations that might pop-up when on the planet.

"Good to see that the Reign Horns are going as escorts.", Kita mumbled as he was looking at the tall mechs. Each of them were around the 50 meter range and was immensely heavy.

Mechs were pretty new technology at this point. Humans invented mechs as a means to package high firepower in a small compact package. Although the 1st generation mechs were highly inefficient and cumbersome, but as time passed on, more and more mech designers started to design better and better mechs for military and industrial purposes. Currently they were Good enough to be deployed in middle to large scale.

Although the Mechs were big in size, the hanger of the Shore was even bigger. It could easily accommodate 250 mechs at once! So having 80 mechs assembled on deck wasn't really taking that much space.

On one side of the hanger a couple of shuttles were being prepared. They were being loaded with necessary lab equipments and Tools. Together the 4 shuttles had to serve specific purpose for different parts of the mission and carry out speicfic tasks that were expected from them.

Everyone was moving everything from everywhere. It was quite hectic in the hanger bay.

Kita opened up his comm and looked up the current location of Dr. Helen before heading towards the shuttles. When he got their he saw a familiar face.

-----

"Hey hey hey, Handle this with care, Do you have any idea how much this baby costs? Even after I saved up a year of my salary I still haven't been able to procure another one. Dr. Kita will kill you if he knows that you broke his stuff. Handle it gently!", Dr. Helen yelled at a crewman before she started to look at the status of the other equipments.

'Ughh, York didn't give that Analyzer yet? I need to call him', She thought before giving York a call.

A projection of York appeared before her.

"Hey york, What's up?"

"Look, I know why you called, And no I can't give it to you. Does Kita know that you stole his UltraGravityBimetricSensor Array? He'll kill me if I also give you his Analyzer."

"Oh, Don't worry about him, I'll handle him, Just give it to the guy I sent. I promise you, I'll bring it back in mint condition. Don't worry about Kita."

"Mint Condition? Last time you took something we didn't even get it back. And how're you gonna handle him? …."

"You don't have to worry about that, I know just how to handle him. Just trust me on this. I promise you'll get it back this time."

"Good luck handling him." York said as the call was instantly cut.

"York. York! Damn, why did he cut the call. I said I'll handle Kita."

"So you'll handle Kita huh?"

"Yes yes, I'll handle… ", Helen stopped after she recognized the voice. She turned around and looked at the perfectly mad smiling face that was looking at her.

"How exactly? What are you thinking?", Kita asked clamly.

"Ah, Honey! How are you, I missed you all day today! I was just gonna call you, I just need your analyzer for the mission. I promise….."

"What were you thinking stealing my Sensor array so casually? You know how delicate they are. Even a small vibration would put their readings all over the place! And you're here just handling it so casually. Where's the special box that I built specifically for it? You need to carry it inside that at all times. Even when operational!", Dr. Helen was stopped mid way as she was about to ask Dr. Kita for his analyzer.
