Chapter 1 - The first day

The bell ring's signaling the start of class and the end of students chattery. After a few seconds the teacher walks in the classroom and students standing up to greet the teacher.

"Stand up!" The class rep yells. All the students standup.

"Bow!" The entire class bows after the class rep.

"Sit" After the teacher tells the student to sit, the class officially begins.

"Alright students, I have an announcement to make." All the students look at the teacher wondering what the announcement would be.

"starting today, there would be a new student joining us, so I hope you guys can give him a warm welcome." The students are Mildly exited to hear that a new classmates is coming in, wondering what he would be like. The girls in the class are talking about whether or not the new transfer student is hot.

"Alright settle down." The students began to quiet down and look at the teacher. "Alright, come on in" All the students look at the door exited. The door slides open and a boy walks in. This boy stands at a height of 5'11, with a slight smile on his face. He looks more fit than your average 2nd year high schooler. "Hello everyone! My name is Nohara Shinnosuke, and I grew up in the United States and I came to Japan due to my parents work. I hope we would have a nice school year and please take care of me!" Shinnosuke introduced himself and the students all clapped as a welcome. "Alright Nohara-kun, your seat is at the very end of the room right next to the windows." The teacher points shinnosuke to his new seat. As he walks to his seat, he noticed the classmates all looking at him as he walks by. When he arrived at his seat, he immediately hated it. The seat was right next to the window where it is very easy to get a shot. He instinctively looked at the building across and noticed all the possible sniper spots. He looked around the room and saw that all other seats were taken, and this was the only seat available. Since there was nothing he could do about it, he sat down and put his stuff down. He looked at the classmate right next to him seeing who he would be table mates for the rest of the year. It was a girl that had an depressing atmosphere around her. She has a long hair down to her waist and her bang covered a lot of her eyes. She notice Shinnosuke looking at her, and when they met eyes, she quickly adverted her gaze. Shinnosuke smiled and whisper to her "Hey, my name is Nohara Shinnosuke, well I'm sure you knew that. Since we are going to be sitting next to each other for the whole school year, please take care of me." The girl too shy to look at him, only slightly nodded her head as a response. Seeing there was no response, shinnosuke started to pay attention to class.

(Shinnosuke's POV)

It seems that my table mate is a pretty interesting character. After the class ended, a couple of students came up to me and started asking me questions.

"Nohara-kun, you said that you are from the US right? How is it over there?" A student asked me.

"Well, it's a great country. People were kind, the food was great, and there were numerous places to have fun." More questions were asked about my background and my interest.

"You came because of your parents' work right? What is your parents' job?" One of the students asked.

"Please forgive me but I can not tell you their job." I gave him an apologetic look. And just as I said that, the bell has rung, and class is starting. Everybody got back to their seats and I also let out a small sigh of relief. It looks like their impression of me was positive.

After that brief interaction I had with those students, I had figured out the structure of the class. There were a few students in this class that appeared to be the "head" of the students. They are the most outspoken and the one that sets the mood in the class. They are "Tanaka Aoi" , a good looking dude that is very social and outspoken. The majority of the class is usually by his side. He seems like the actual leader of this classroom. Then there is "Suzuki Himari". The prettiest girl in this class. She is always around Tanaka and is friends with everybody in the class. She is also pretty popular with the guys, which is pretty obvious given her looks. The same goes for Tanaka, as he is popular with the girls. Then there is the class representative "Nakamura Kenji". He is your typical athletic popular guy that is always around the protagonist. Although he is the Class Rep, The true leader is Tanaka. Those 3 make up the center of our class.

But there is one person that seems to be the odd ones out, and that is my table mate. When those students surrounded my table, none of them talked to, or even looked at her. And given that situation, there are 2 possible outcomes. Outcome 1 is that she is just shy and never interacts with anybody in the class or even the school. This is the most lighthearted one out of the 2 outcomes, as the second outcome is that she is getting bullied and people are ignoring her on purpose. Although her being bullied is not an ideal situation, I simply do not care about her enough to change anything. Well, let's just quietly observe for now, and not do anything rash until I have gathered enough information about the school.

After about 50 minutes, the second period ended and it was time for lunch. Tanaka Aoi and his friends came up to me and invited me to join them for lunch. I agreed and we went to the courtyard to eat. All of them pulled out their own home made lunch but I just pulled out 2 pieces of bread.

"Say Nohara-kun, would you be full by just eating 2 pieces of bread?" Tanaka noticed it and with a worried look on his face, asked me about it

"Yeah Nohara-kun, with our age, we need to eat more so that we can grow stronger HAHAHA!"

With a cheerful laugh, Nakamura Kenji slapped me on my back.

"It's fine, I'm used to eating like this since my parents were busy and they did not have time to cook lunch for me." With a gentle smile, I reassured them that it's not a big deal. And hearing that, they resumed eating and talking about other things. I used this opportunity to gain information about the school. "I heard that there is a student council in the school, who are they?" I asked. "The student council? Oh yeah, we rarely hear about them since they don't really interact with the student body." This time it was Suzuki Himari that responded.

"Yeah but I heard from a friend that they are actually the ones controlling the school. It's probably just a baseless rumor though." Tanaka added. What he said has piqued my interest about the student council. In my eyes, every rumor has some degree of truth in it. And if you investigate that rumor, you might be surprised at how much intel it can give you. I also use this chance to get to know more about my table mate. There is a lot of uncertainty behind her, and I need to know more about the person if they would be next to me for a whole school year.

"Yui Akari? Well…she is a pretty weird person. There was a rumor about her being a troubled kid and would always get into trouble in middle school." Tanka said. So her name was Yui Akari. I was surprised to learn that rumor seeing the atmosphere that she gives off.

"Although I don't really believe it, the energy that she gives off is just so creepy that I don't want to get close to her." I understand why people would ignore her now. The rumor that she had and the energy that she gives off, rejects everyone that tries to get close to her.

Lunch has come to an end and we are back into our classrooms. I approach my desk and I see that Yui Akari is not at her seat.

When I passed her table,I noticed that there was something written on it.

"DIE"

I went back to my seat and sat down. After a few minutes, Yui akari came back with her clothes and hair wet. Seeing that has confirmed my outcome. When she came in, people were looking at her with disgust in their eyes. She went straight to her seat without looking at other people. I look at her, and although I feel bad I can't see how helping her would benefit me. But when I see what her eyes are like, I can't help but remember someone I know in the past. The amount of despair and emptiness still haunts me in my dreams. The class begans as usual and nobody bats an eye that there is a girl with her clothes drenched.

After 2 more period of class, the school came to an end. I noticed that Yui Akari started to go towards the back of the school. I decided to follow her and see what she was going to do. I saw that 3 girls were already waiting for her, and when she arrived, they immediately started to beat her up and laugh at her. She just stood there and took those kicks and punches not fighting back. After a while those 3 girls walked away laughing to each other. Yui Akari stood up from the ground with dirt all over her face and clothes, and walked away. When she walked past me, my heart started to beat faster and faster. I then did something I never thought I would do, I called out to her.

"Hey"

When she heard someone calling out to her, she looked back at me. Looking into her empty eyes, my heart started to tighten up.

"Why didn't you fight back? Why didn't you stand up for yourself and tell the teacher about what you've been going through?"

I asked her questions but she did not seem to understand. She just tilted her head and looked at me with confusion. I walked toward her and she instantly put her arms on her face trying to cover it.I stopped in front of her and looked at her for a few seconds. Noticing that nothing was happening, she slowly put down her arm and looked at me. When our eyes met, she quickly turned to the other side and walked away. I looked at her unstable body trying to walk away and almost falling multiple times. I went back to my house and called it a day.
