Chapter 21 - Wildlife Biologist

The second purple orb gave an option to either choose [Torch's Wrath] and [Ground Dragon's Constitution: Walking Limbs Type A].

The first would make his torch send out a flare projectile to anything within the illumination that was actively hostile at Kivas, giving him another passive firepower with no demerit whatsoever although the purple flare attack from the violet flame of the torch could only knock back small creatures and burnt their skin at most.

Or he could choose the latter where both of his claws would turn into giant T-rex legs but with no changes on his torso, creating this weird shift of center weight balance.

Of course, he chose the first one.

-Boon of Utility-

[Torch's Wrath]

-Begone evil! And begone shrapnel! The world is harsh, and they all want thee. So to protect thy arms, legs, and soul, the Torch of Blight shall lend a hand without any fee. Wrath! Anguish! Let thy enemies experience these. For the flame won't be gentle, and abide as thy please-

'Yup, life is good.'

The temporary rain had halted to an end. Most of his energy got replenished, so Kivas continued his exploration.

The scales of the black long-dragon was not was not as heavier as he thought. Of course, it dampened his mobility to some extent, but the protection it provided demolished all of the demerit.

As he strode the forest by lunging himself with his claws, the trail of the fluttering ink charted numerous waves and strokes as though the forest itself was a canvas. The numbers of natural water reservoirs were quite abundant, so he didn't have to worry about his diminishing stamina.

Of course, what else was also abundant other than carnivorous animals.

'AAAAAAA- It's the same gosh darn sprinting plant again!'

Kivas made sure to maintain a distance that was closer than 5 meters so that his Torch of Blight could attack it. The Torch's Wrath was the interval of 2 seconds before sending another projectile. With how rational the boon was, Kivas couldn't help but imagine a Boon of Modifier for it that could give an extra firepower.

It took 6 flare projectiles from the torch to take one sprinting carnivorous plant down. Which means 12 seconds of staying in the range of it.

'Referring to that thing as a sprinting carnivorous plant sounds mouthful.' A broken lightbulb appeared above Kivas' front body. 'I know, let's just name them!'

Feeling that he was the only intelligent creature in the forest, Kivas began to name every unique creature he encountered like some sort of renowned biologist.

Because Kivas prefers easy-to-pronounce words, he threw out the idea of using latin. So the family name of these kinds of plantae would be Snappy Plants, which was self-explanatory in Kivas' mind.

The sprinting carnivorous plant was named Hasty Chomper.

The type who buried itself underground was named Snappy Camper.

The tree with a slit of mouth full of teeth on its trunk and can control its vines like tentacles shall be named as Grabby Lechompski.

When trying to name them, Kivas found one thing or two about their nature and traits. Those discoveries were worth two purple orbs. He then invested both of them into [Blight Expansion], so now he has 7 meters of perception range.

Seeing that observing wild plants could give him some purple orbs, Kivas was enticed to be a Wildlife Biologist of this world.

'And out of all places, there will always be that kind of animal that is suitable for this environment.'

In the middle of three Snappy Campers, there was one boar-like animal who seemed so nonchalant and uncaring of the world. That beast was smaller than a forest boar and had this bluish fur along with tusks that were curved to the side. One would indefinitely think that is a weird painted boar, except that the weird boar has a rainbow mushroom on its back that was third the size of the beast.

This creature seemed to nullify the detector of the Snappy Plants, allowing it to maneuver and scavenge the forest full of deadly natural traps freely like it was in their backyard.

Kivas instantly named that creature as Blue Bongus.

He acquired a purple orb for that.

It might be late, but truth be told.

Kivas didn't fit to become a Wildlife Biologist.

'Alright, I guess Wildlife Biologist will be my occupation from now on.'

He decided to be one anyway.

The first 2 hours and 22 minutes had passed. So that makes two purple orbs. Also, he just noticed that he could keep the purple orbs to orbit closely to the flame of his torch, allowing him to store it for later allocation.

Although, Kivas was the type to use anything he had in his arsenal. The world is vast and there would be more discoveries to stumble upon. Two allocation of [Blight Expansion] is more useful than two floating orbs, So Kivas did just that.

His torch's illumination range had increased up to 9 meters.

Aside from the Blue Bongus, there seemed to be more dwellers within this forest. It was just that they were too wary of him, especially since Kivas was producing ink-like smoke trails whenever he went. To the residents of this land, it was the same as how animals marked their territory with secretion of their glands or with excretion.

One of those shy dwellers was a mysterious bird that sometimes could be noticed flying right above the limit of his illumination, as if it was curious but too afraid to approach. It seemed like noticing them didn't give him any purple orbs so he didn't really want to know what the bird was all about.

10 minutes later, Kivas found a unique hanging parasite plant on one of the normal trees. The plant formed some kind of bird cage at its end. The very same bird that he noticed earlier began to glide down and entered the bird cage, plunging its long and narrow beak into the nectar that was provided in a bowl-like container on the corner.

'That is surprisingly a wholesome, considering how cruel nature can be in the wild.'

After a few sips, the bird was knocked limp. The parasite then tightened its bird cage, savoring the nutrient from the bird for its meal.

'I guess not.'

Kivas named the parasite plant as Byrdkontain.

That was an extra purple orb for witnessing such an event. He then allocated for another [Blight Expansion]. His perception range rose up to 10 meters.

Just as Kivas wanted to carry on with his business, a giant Blue Bongus bulldozed through those trees. Its size was bigger than the truck-sized pack of crawling dragons that he met before.

'Holy mother of…'

The giant Blue Bongus kept on walking straight with no cares in the world.

'Now I know why the dragons hunt in packs. It might not be the only thing that is this big in this forest.'

There was a slight difference in physiques and collaboration on the rear, especially the branching mushroom on its back that looks more like a tree than a fungus. It was possible that it's a subspecies of the Blue Bungus and not the adult version of it.

Kivas named it Big Bongus.

An extra purple orb for him.

Kivas wanted another [Blight Expansion] but it was not in either option. The presented choices were also nothing that Kivas had encountered before. Not wanting to add anything new for now, Kivas tried to see if he could cancel it, in which he could turn the panels into a purple orb again now that he had tried it! Trying to find a resting place, he placed the purple orb to orbit closely to the torch's flame.

This was the first time for him to feel this fatigued and exhausted in this cycle of life and death, afterall.

After quite a long adventure, Kivas stumbled upon an open field connected to a river just beside a waterfall in between colorful walls of rocks. On the feet of those walls, Kivas found a rather deep crack that was fitting for his size.

'Huh, I can snuggle in.'

Inside the mini cavern, Kivas wondered if his body was even capable of sleeping.

It was his first home.
