Chapter 34 - Church brats

Derek and Max returned to the gaming club. When they were passing thought the church, they saw the old lady and Elena interacting with the kids. Max waved at them. When Ammy, the old lady and Elena, her successor saw Max they walked over for a talk.

"Your name is Max right? I'm getting old and bad with names. Why are the guild master of the adventurer's guild and the guards came to you yesterday? Did you make something wrong?" The old lady asked. Generally, she tried to put up a strong front in front of this duo, but she was a little hesitant. This guy was really strong. It was better to not offend him. She just to try and see why the guards and the guild master were so happy when they exited the gaming club yesterday.

"Haha, yeah my name is Max, and this is Derek. About the adventurer's guild guys. The guard captain lost a bet to me. It's more like he lost a fight to Derek. He promised me to come and look at my gaming club with the rest of the guards. The guild master got interested and came along. I'm sure they will come today as well. They got pretty excited yesterday so I think they will come every day. You can come and test your brats and see if some of them have talent. If someone of them has a really good talent I may take them as my disciple. I'm in a good mood today so the pay will be on me. There are a lot of brats that have a potential here. I see around 13 from all of the kids. It's a lot. Maybe God help them or something." Max said while pointing at the different kids around Ammy and Elena.

"We can pay for the test." The old lady said.

"Two silver coins per kid? If you really want, you can do it. My offer still stands. You can come in around a hour. We go and have launch now." Max said while waving his hand and leaving the lady duo in a daze. He wanted to check his luck with those little brats. He saw that some of them had a talent to become knights and one even had talent to become a mage. The amount of talents was not small.

"Alright. We will take your offer then." Ammy said after a short deliberation. She did not want to go broke for testing the kids.

After Max and Derek left Elena asked: "Is it safe to take the kids there? What if it's some kind of trap? I don't trust those guys."

The old lady sighed and said: "This guy don't seem to lie. Also, there is nothing really to take from us. Maybe he can really take one of kids as disciple. It will be great!"

After having lunch and taking a small break Max saw Elena and Ammy coming with the kids Max pointed at. All of them had talent from his appraisal skill but he did not know what the level of talent of those guys was because his appraisal skill did not show him that. It showed him only if the kids have talent or not. When they arrived, Max greeted them and then he instructed Elena to take the kids to the room that the testing was held to help them. They were still young and could make a mistake or accidently not comply to the instruction like they were told. It will cause making another test for the same kid and a loss of additional money. Max was no bank, so he asked Elena to give the kids a hand. When Elena heard a voice speak to her and the kid inside the room when the tests started, she was dumbfounded. Max also put up a relaxing music in the building which made the kids and the old lady very confused. Soon Elena, Ammy and the kids got used to the music and the strange instructions that were given from nowhere. All the kids went through the talent test and Max held the final results of all the kids in his hands. He took a look and after looking at half of the pages he got he stopped. He found someone with real potential. The list had the name Rey on it.

"Who is Rey?" Max asked.

Ammy's eyes lit up and she pushed a kid over and said: "This is Rey. Rey greet mister Max."

"Hello, mister." Rey said in a shy tone. He was only 10 years old. He was not used talking to strangers.

Max looked at his data again:

'Name: Rey. Warrior level: none. Mage level: none. Warrior aptitude: high.

Magic aptitude: none. Fire aptitude: none. Water aptitude: none. Wind aptitude: none.

Earth aptitude: none. Lightning aptitude: none.'

"Alright. You are worthy to be taught by me. There is only one thing. Can you really take the training? I will not go easy on you at all. The training will be hard. You will have to work very hard. Are you ready for a lot of suffering? You have a warrior talent. The warrior path is not easy. I will get you to a level of at least a grand knight if you can survive my training." Max said calmly. He was not joking. This brat is going to suffer. He is going to train day and night in the simulation until he gets to a satisfactory level of strength. If he was a girl Max will go easy on him but as a boy, he needed to go through hardships to grow into a man.

The kid was taken aback. He did not really want to suffer. He wanted to continue living with his friends. His life was not easy, but he was fine with it.

Max understood the kid's worries and said: "Little brat what will happen if bad people come here to harm you and your friends? What could you do? Could you protect them? You have the talent but without the power and the right skills your talent is worthless. I'm sure bad guys come to cause troubles for you a lot. It's just a matter of time until something bad will happen."
