Chapter 11 - Trial of the Labyrinth Part-2

Footsteps echoed through the dimly lit corridor like the heartbeat of bravery, as Chase and Ava cautiously ventured into the treacherous Hall of Traps. The air hung heavy with a sense of danger, like a storm brewing on the horizon, the very atmosphere crackling with anticipation, akin to the hushed whispers of fate weaving its tapestry.

Ava's worry was evident in her voice as she spoke, her words laden with concern, like a gentle rain that falls softly on parched earth, "We still haven't seen any of our classmates. Do you think something could have happened to them, and it could happen to us too?"

Chase reassured her with the warmth of his voice, like a comforting ray of sunshine breaking through the clouds, "I don't know, but we have to stay together, or the trial will make us have someone accompany us during the trial."

"Thankfully, we are here together and didn't get separated," Ava said, expressing her gratitude, her words like a soothing breeze that carries a sense of relief. She understood that if they had faced the entrance alone, they might not have made it this far, like two lone travelers lost in the vast wilderness.

Chase nodded in agreement, sharing Ava's sentiment. They scanned their surroundings, taking in the sight of swinging pendulum blades, hidden spike pits, and sections of the floor that threatened to crumble away beneath their feet, like a landscape of challenges that tested their courage.

"We've made it to the Hall of Traps," Ava said, noting down the traps she observed.

Chase suggested, "Let's stay close together to avoid missteps, especially for the swinging pendulum blades," like two dancers synchronizing their steps, moving in unison to the rhythm of life's trials.

"Alright," Ava agreed, understanding the importance of their unity in navigating the dangers ahead, like two halves of a whole, finding strength in each other's presence.

Standing shoulder to shoulder, Chase and Ava carefully observed the patterns of the traps, analyzing their timing and movements to find a safe path through the treacherous hall, like intrepid explorers mapping their way through an uncharted territory.

"Whoosh!"

"Whoosh!"

The pendulum blades swung back and forth in a menacing rhythm, their razor-sharp edges gleaming in the faint light. Chase and Ava patiently awaited the perfect moment to dart past.

"Go."

This was their chance.

With unwavering focus, they seized the opportune moment. As one of the pendulums reached the apex of its swing, momentarily freezing in mid-air before descending, Chase and Ava launched themselves forward. Their movements were guided by intuition and calculation, seamlessly blending with the rhythm of the pendulums.

Gracefully slipping between the swinging blades, their bodies seemed to meld with the danger. Their agility and reflexes were put to the test, their movements were precise and measured. They could feel the wind of the pendulums brushing against their skin, a constant reminder of the imminent threat.

In a breathtaking display of agility, they weaved through the pendulums, employing split-second timing to duck, jump, and sidestep, like a graceful dance of life and death, each movement a testament to their prowess and determination.

Finally, as the last pendulum swung away, Chase and Ava emerged unscathed. Sweat glistened on their brows, their chests heaving with exertion.

"We made it," Chase exclaimed, relief evident in his voice.

"Now, there are hidden spikes," Ava warned, her eyes focused on the path ahead.

As they advanced, Chase and Ava shifted their gaze downward, carefully watching for the telltale signs of hidden spike pits. Small cracks in the stone floor indicated the presence of danger with each step.

"I can hear the spikes activate, so I will let you know when to move," Ava said, relying on her keen hearing.

"Okay, I trust you," Chase responded, acknowledging Ava's abilities. He allowed her to navigate while he focused on following her instructions.

"Left."

Chase and Ava swiftly moved left, escaping the menacing spike spears.

With every step, they remained vigilant, knowing that a single misstep could lead to their demise, like a delicate balance between success and failure, teetering on the edge of uncertainty.

"Right."

Again, they gracefully avoided the spike spears, their movements displaying their skill and coordination.

"Aah, just one more to go," Chase remarked, relief washing over him as they successfully navigated the spike floors.

However, their greatest challenge awaited them the section of the floor prone to collapse.

With each passing second, the weight of their decisions grew heavier.

Ava's warning caught Chase's attention, like a siren's call guiding them through the labyrinth of dangers. They both looked ahead, noticing the subtle discoloration and faint cracks that snaked across the surface, foretelling imminent danger, like nature's warning signs etched into the very fabric of their surroundings.

Chase secured his spear on his back, realizing the importance of reducing their weight, like a burden lifted to lighten their load. "Let me hold you; it will be faster and safer," he offered to Ava, like a knight protecting his princess from harm.

"But I'm fine on the ground," Ava protested, not wanting Chase to carry her.

"No, look at the ground. If we have too much weight or misstep, we're done," Chase explained, emphasizing the risk they faced.

Ava realized the validity of Chase's argument. Missteps or added weight could cost them points or even their lives. "Fine," she reluctantly agreed, her face flushing with a blush.

Ava slowly climbed into Chase's princess hold.

"Alright, hold on tightly. Let's do this," Chase warned Ava and started walking forward.

Ava held onto Chase's neck securely, preparing herself for the task ahead.

They both took a deep breath, steadying their nerves. In a split-second calculation, they sprinted forward.

"Left."

"Right."

"Forward."

Chase deftly avoided the weak spots, their feet landing on stable ground with unwavering confidence, like two dancers executing a perfectly choreographed routine.

"Sigh, we made it," Chase exclaimed, temporarily forgetting about Ava in his moment of relief.

Ava sighed too, grateful for their safe passage. She adjusted her clothes, her face still slightly flushed.

"Why is your face red?" Chase asked, pretending not to know the reason behind Ava's embarrassment.

"Nothing, let's keep going," Ava replied quickly, her face returning to normal.

Chase understood the reason behind Ava's blush, but he put it aside for now, focusing on becoming a fully-fledged knight, also they barely did anything why does she blush?.

They continued their journey through the Hall of Traps, their focus unyielding, their determination unwavering. They faced each challenge with cautious observation and swift action, dancing through the deadly obstacles with a grace that defied the perils surrounding them.

Time seemed to blur as they weaved through the labyrinthine traps. Their senses sharpened, their instincts finely tuned. Each successful evasion fueled their resolve, reminding them that their skills matched the labyrinth's cruel designs.

"We made it to the end."

"Yeah, I'm so tired," Ava admitted, her fatigue evident in her voice.

Chase and Ava sat down, smiling at each other, their bodies drenched in sweat, and their breaths ragged. Yet, their spirits remained unbroken. They took a moment to savor their victory, grateful for their survival, and ready to face the next challenge that awaited them in the uncharted depths of the Trial of the Labyrinth.

After catching their breath for about ten minutes, Chase suggested, "Let's go to the third part."

"These trials are really challenging," Ava replied, in awe of the trials they had faced so far, recalling something she had read.

"I've read in the book that the mages don't have it this hard," Chase said, also in awe of the difficulty they were encountering.

"Yes, but if we manage to get through these trials, we will become stronger than most mages," Ava said, bolstering their confidence and renewing their energy.
