Matteo’s POV
Her hair was a bit messy, and she wore little to no makeup at all. Yet her presence alone was enough to drive me crazy.
Holding my son gave me the excuse to stay put. I wanted to take care of Leila, too. Her exhaustion was evident on her face.
However, I hesitated to impose anything unless I was certain I had her trust.
I kept Jace busy while watching Leila prepare dinner. Her aunt called a few minutes ago that she would be staying with a friend.
That news actually sounded like music to my ears. I was planning to leave after her aunt came back. I knew her family hated me, and that’s something I needed to work on.
“Dinner’s ready!” Leila called out. That simple invitation had me smirking. I found myself looking forward to this dinner even though I should have gone some time ago. Needless to say, I was not welcome to join them at supper. Even so, I prefer to follow my gut and heed her call.
