Leila’s POV
I couldn’t catch what Matteo and Elsie had talked about. But it appeared they bid farewell, seeing how Elsie left without making any fuss or turning around.
It was also a bit threatening in a way. What if they decided to get back at me and Aunt Maurice one day? Would I be ready when that happens?
Matteo cleared his throat, interrupting my gloomy thoughts. After Louvel and Elsie left, father invited all of us to head inside. His expression remained stoic, making it difficult to read what he had in mind.
Once inside, Aunt Maurice took Jace out of my grasp again and brought him to one of the rooms to sleep better.
And that left me and Alpha Matteo to face father. He took us into his study, our resounding footsteps as we headed that way made my heart hammer like crazy inside my chest.
This wasn’t what I envisioned coming here would be like. But I had been through worse. I should have built some sort of immunity.
