Tension rose between me and Oliver, Alpha Matteo’s beta.
I had wanted to avoid him, too, but he was one of the many people who treated me fairly. Hence, I opted to feed and entertain him.
Yet, a tiny part of me was worried that Alpha Matteo sent him to mess with my life again and worse, try to get Jace.
The fire in my eyes matched the tenacity of my threat. I didn’t care if Alpha Matteo was stronger than me. With my son on the line, I would do anything to protect him and keep him away from his hold.
He never cared about him in the first place. Why would he even bother now?
My chest rose and fell. The silence around the diner forced me to look away and diffuse the situation.
“You better leave, Oliver. If you came here for that reason, it would be best if we pretend we never saw each other.”
I somehow felt guilty finding no malice in Oliver’s gaze. He rather appeared confused, which gradually turned to surprise, my words perhaps slowly getting to him.
