I wake up in my room. My head aches. 'I'm back?' I ask myself, 'When did I get here?'. I close my eyes as the memories flash back. "Right, I left Ace at the villa and came home," I say with a smile, "He deserved it. Never act cold with me, match my enthusiasm".
I stand but fall right back on the bed. My head was aching. I grab my phone to contact my manager and when I see the time jump in surprise, "11 o'clock!" I shout.
I quickly call my manager and tell her that I wouldn't make it because I wasn't feeling well. She asks if I wanted her here but I deny it. "You just fix the things there," I tell her.
"Okay, recover soon ma'am," she says.
"Thank you," I say disconnecting the call.
I call the butler and ask him to tell the chef to bring me a light breakfast. After 30 minutes he comes in holding a tray with a bowl of porridge and a cup of warmed milk. I eat up and regain some energy. My head felt better. I was at least able to walk now.
As I stood in the shower I felt like I had forgotten something. Something important had happened yesterday but what? I couldn't think. 'But what could have happened yesterday if I had come home,' I think, 'You know what Jade, just forget about it'.
I wrap a towel around my body and enter my large walk-in closet. I pull out a yellow blouse and a black pencil skirt. I put them on and I go downstairs. I sit there with my phone in my hands. I had gotten a message from BBX that I hadn't opened. I open it and what I see shocks me.
'Your brother has met with an accident, and is undergoing surgery at the CPH,' it said.
'Accident? Surgery?' I think, 'When? How?'.
Without wasting time I rush to put on some shoes and get my purse. I dash out of the house and start a car. I wasn't going to wait for the driver. The gateman opens the gate and I drive out to the highway like a bullet. Thank God it was a Saturday. Not a lot of people will be in town.
I hurry to the hospital and ask which room my brother was in. They inform me and I hurry to the elevator. 'Room 45P, Room 45P,' I repeat in my head as I press the buttons. I press the wrong button and it takes me to the third floor instead of the second one.
"Shit, shit, shit," I curse hitting the walls.
I press 'second floor' and it takes me there. Exactly when it opens, I run out. '41P, 42P...45P!' I read in my mind. It had a red light on top showing the surgery wasn't over. I pace back and forth as I wondered how he had met with the accident all of a sudden.
After what seemed like an hour the light turns green. The surgery was over. I run to the door as the nurses come out.
"How is he?" I ask them but they ignore me and walk past me.
The doctor comes out and I ask him how my brother was. He shakes his head and I drop. The tears that I have been holding from coming out finally flow down my cheeks.
"The surgery went well, he is out of danger for now ma'am but..," he says pausing.
I stop crying hoping for a positive answer but I knew nothing good comes after a 'but'.
"..he has drifted into a coma and we can not estimate when he will come out of it," he finishes his sentence.
"Coma?" I whisper, "Is there a way to bring him out? Please tell me there is a way," I plead.
I couldn't live without BBX. He was my best friend in the whole world since birth.
"I'm sorry ma'am, there's nothing we can do for now until the test results come out," he informs me.
"Can I see him?" I ask.
He thinks and replies, "Come with me and fill out the necessary forms then you can see him".
I nod and he leads me to the reception table. I'm given the forms I need to fill and I put in all the information I found necessary fill in I was still wondering how he had met with an accident. "How did he end up in an accident?" I ask.
He shrugs as he takes the paper I was handed to him, "For all I know, it was a hit-and-run case. There were no witnesses but the police are investigating the matter. They informed me yesterday that they had a lead. The accident was somehow linked to his exgirlfriend," he tells me.
"Exgirlfriend?" I whisper.
'Could it be her?' I think to myself clenching my fists. No matter who it was, he or she was going to pay. I pay the bills and go back to my brother's room.
I enter to find him lying motionless on the hospital bed. There were about three drips connected to his arm, a heartbeat monitor, and a gas mask. The sight of him like this made me want to cry. I wipe my tears because if he were awake he would have told me to wipe them away. He was strong and I was sure he was going to wake up soon and be the same ever-smiling BBX I once knew. I sit beside him and put my hand on top of his.
"Hie brother," I say, "You told me you were coming but you never mentioned the fact that you were not going to make it. How is that fair brother? Is this because of me? Maybe if you weren't coming to see me you wouldn't have ended up like this. I'm sorry brother".
I hadn't realized I was now crying. I spend the rest of my time talking to him though he was in a coma I knew he could hear me. It's scientifically proven that a person in a coma can still use their hearing sense and I knew he could hear me.
After an hour the doctor comes in and asks me to leave. The visit time was now over. He also wanted to run some tests on him and transfer him to another hospital room. "Don't worry too much ma'am. He'll be fine before you know it," he reassures me. I nod as I give him a hopeful smile.
I go out of the hospital to my car.
I enter my car and I find myself crying. I hear my phone ringing. It was my manager. I calm myself and I answer once I was a bit calm.
"Hello?" I say.
"Jade! Where are you? Are you fine? I had come to check on you but you were not there and the Butler said you left in a rush," I hear Ace's voice.
"I...I'm fine," I tell him.
He's silent, "Jade," he says slowly, "What's wrong?".
"Nothing...I...I'm okay," I say.
"You mean 'not okay'. What happened?" he asks.
I start crying.
"Jade, listen, where are you?" he sounded concerned.
"The C..C...CPH," I stutter.
"Stay there Jade, I'll come to get you. Don't drive," he instructs me.
I nod though he couldn't see me. He doesn't disconnect the phone but keeps on talking to me and making sure I don't start the car. I couldn't concentrate on what he was saying. My world had turned off and I was now getting drowsy.
I hear the door open and when I look I see a frowning Ace. I try to get out but end up falling in his arms.
"Look at what you've done to yourself, Gray Jade. Why are you at the hospital? Can you now tell me what happened?" he asks.
He sits on the seat I was sitting on and he put me on his lap. I hug him tight and buried my face in his chest. He embraced me as he claimed me down by caressing and patting my back. When I was now calm I tell him. "..he is the only person who stays when my life is filled with thorns Ace. Now he's...he's asleep," I tell him.
"Shhh, Jade. He will wake up. Everything will be fine," he says.
"No Ace. Nothing's okay. I have no one now," I shout clenching my fist and my grip on his t-shirt tightened.
"Who said you're alone? I will be there for you from now on," he says.
I look at him in disbelief. Is this the same stone-cold vampire I've been rivals with for the past 4 years who's now saying he'll be there for me from now on?
"You are not capping right?" I ask.
"I promise," he brings his hand and gives me his pinky finger.
I give him mine and our pinkies intertwine sealing a promise that was going to bring us closer and then break us apart. We smile as we look at our hands.
