Chapter 130 - Well Suited

Charlotte huddled into the blankets deeper only to be pulled up despite her protests. The blankets were so warm and soft, but it was taken away from her when she was yanked up. Groaning, Charlotte rubbed her eyes confused at what was happening when she had finally gotten herself to fall asleep.

Her body was going through the rounds of being bodily tired but her mind wouldn't shut off, wired and thought-provoking. She was struggling earlier to get some shut eye, but the dark room with the soft voices in the background were comforting enough.

Vincent pressed the bottom of her wrist to his nose, and she flicked her up at him. He stared down at her while the red earring winked at her in the moonlight. He continued staring at her until she flushed from his sharp gaze that was twinkling with a golden glaze.

Vincent's eyes slid over her face. "No matter how much I look at your eyes, they suit you well."

"Thank you." She turned her face away from him and looked down. "What do you think about Stone taking Lucia as his contractor?"

"It should be fine since it works out in Lucia's favor," Vincent said slowly.

Charlotte nodded. She needed to stop worrying about it since she supposed Lucia was in good hands. What they needed to worry about instead was trying to figure out what the vigilantes were up to with time ticking down. It was driving her insane as were the rest of the vampires that were sick of going around in circles.

"Have your wounds healed?" she asked. "Are you just walking around with open wounds?"

"They are fine enough," Vincent answered. "I will be a hundred percent very soon."

"Why don't I believe that?" Charlotte said slowly. "Come here. Let me see."

She was surprised that he obeyed her soft command. He normally didn't bother. Vincent had switched out of his torn shirt to another black one that was practically identical. Charlotte sat back on the bed while he stepped in between her legs, and she leaned back to accommodate him.

Charlotte pulled up his shirt to reveal his abdomen, his tight stomach, and muscles that were stacked on top of each other.

Biting down on her bottom lip, she ignored how good the man looked. He stared at the wall above her head while she got down to business. The large gashes that she saw last time had shrunk in size, but even she could tell how deep they were. If she had the same damage afflicted to her, there would be a high chance that she wouldn't survive it.

The wounds had healed enough, but, they were still bleeding in some spots. She sighed and told him to stay put while she went into the bathroom to get the medical kit. Charlotte came back to see that he had found himself a spot on the bed that she claimed, and she sat down next to him as she propped only the kit.

Propping it open, she got all the materials that she needed to tend to him with Vincent watching her every move. Charlotte turned to Vincent as she sat in his lap. Her fingers were getting carried away, and Vincent wasn't shy in letting her know.

His hands grasped hers making Charlotte jerk away. "Do you like what you see?"

Charlotte didn't bother acting coy since her warm cheeks had already given her away. Instead, she shook her head to switch a topic that was on hand. "You know, you really scared me back then."

There was a long pause from Vincent's end, but Charlotte wasn't lying. When she saw him in that condition, she was scared that he might actually die. The initial shock of a scream was lost by the vampire that went on a rampage. He never had anyone to care if he went home or worried about him but that changed.

After all, vampires weren't immortal. She wasn't one to worry, but thoughts festered since Vincent never told her anything of himself. He likely didn't think it was much of a problem, but they were a duo.

Vincent had and was doing his best to protect her, now, she thought it was childish to want to say that she would protect him.

She widened her legs like earlier for him to go in between them only for him to lift her up. Vincent leaned his back to the wall while Charlotte sat adjacent to him with her legs sprawled on his lap.

Her silence made it easy to find the underlying message while she played with the corner of the gauze she applied for him on his side.

"What's wrong?" he demanded.

Charlotte settled after racking her head for an answer. "Don't push yourself too much."

"It's nothing that I can't handle."

"Of course. I have faith that you know yourself well. It's a matter of taking care of yourself."

"Aren't you here with me now to take care of that matter?"

Charlotte rolled her eyes. "Ah, sure. I'll try my best in that regard."

"Tell me," he pressed.
