Chapter 124 - Partners in Crime

Vincent cocked a gun, and it took everything inside of her not to flinch, but she also wasn't surprised by how close he brought that weapon to her. The barrel was right next to her face, but her body remained frozen, as she was able to bring her glassy eyes over to Vincent's which seemed to be searching for something in her eyes.

There was an internal fight that she had to get used to. The one that went around in her head of if she truly trusted Vincent with her life. After all that they had been through, it would be foolish not to, but still, Charlotte had to continue being flighty. When she raised her eyes to look over at him, the inner thoughts had crystallized, and it seemed to be what Vincent needed to see.

He dropped the gun away from her face, and she breathed out a silent cry of relief, now that he was backing away only to be startled once more when Vincent aimed the gun over at the targets and began shooting. The recoil of the gun got nothing on him, and the flare that went off made Charlotte watch the whole scene in front of her unfold.

The bullets rang true, and all the shots went straight to the center with some only a fraction of a sliver off. It was a testament to the skill that he had that brimmed underneath the strength that was inhumane. It was the strict training that he had to endure to ensure his overall safety in the space that he was able to control.

Silence crashed over them, and Charlotte whistled to brighten up the already dark atmosphere. "That was great. You're phenomenal."

Vincent pulled back and placed the handgun back on the table, and Charlotte let her eyes drop down to roam the weapons again. If she had to take her pic, she would have gone with the same as he chose considering that it was all that she knew. The others looked a bit daunting, like the stick with a huge spike ball on it.

They weren't in ancient times, but that weapon seemed a bit too babaric to her in that sense. But she knew that there likely was a high possibility that a vampire or vigilante used it as a weapon against each other, taking each other's head off. Charlotte didn't want to imagine that bloody scene and pushed it out of her mind.

"How are you and Stone supposed to teach Lucia and I how to use..." she motioned around them. "These. Properly. If you both are going to be in deep sleep?"

"We will teach you two the basics once they get in here," Vincent said slowly.

"You trust us going around the house having free access to all of these?"

"You two will be fine," Vincent assured quietly. "Just don't swallow the bullets yourselves."

Charlotte frowned. "I would never."

"Glad to hear it."

"Life is important," Charlotte pressed.

"Yes, and it is what we are fighting for."

Stone and Lucia made their way inside with Stone practically dragging Lucia inside. Lucia had a face of spite etched into the groves of her face, and he hauled her right over to where Charlotte was standing. Charlotte placed her hands on her lips and glanced over to Lucia with a slight glare. "What were you doing?"

Lucia gave her a sheepish expression. "I was trying to leave."

Charlotte took a breath. "I can see that. It didn't seem to go well did it?"

Lucia shrugged. "I wasn't going to actually leave."

Charlotte slid a look over Stone. "It didn't seem as though he got the memo."

"Once again, it isn't my fault," Lucia admonished.

Charlotte snickered as she looped an arm around Lucia's shoulders to whisper down into her ear. "I wouldn't want to get the boys riled up now."

Lucia's eyes flashed. "Don't let them test me."

"We have to do our best as they are doing as well to get out of this mess alive. Pull your weight, Lucia."

"I never said I wouldn't."

"If so, then please listen."

Lucia huffed out a breath. "I will try."

Charlotte let out a triumphant smile. "Thank you. Let's not kill each other with the training. And I mean literally."

"I'm not a murder."

"We all intend not to be. Self-defense and murder is a thin line that we will be dancing on," Charlotte said.

Lucia wrung her hands together. "I don't want to kill anyone."

"Neither do I," Charlotte said quietly. "But if they want to hurt my life, I have to defend myself. Just like they will hurt your dream."

"Who says that the vamps over won't hurt my dream either?"

"We won't truly know what is going on in their minds," Charlotte admitted. "I trust them. I've been with Vincent for a while now, and we're in it together."

"Like y'all are together?"

"No, no," Charlotte was quick to disagree. She was way too busy to even think about such matters despite them floating in her mind wanting some closure. There were so many things that could go wrong there, but the next statement that came out of her mouth was concrete. "We're partners in crime."
