Chapter 105 - Chilly Antics

Vincent didn't respond since Stone slowed his roll and turned back when Vincent and she had landed on top of the large building that they were standing upon. It seemed to be a higher apartment tier located in the inner ring which was similar in style to Vincent's hotel chain that he managed, and Vincent helped Charlotte down and let her lean against him to let her feet regain some strength first.

Stone had just dropped Lucia on the ground, and Lucia was sitting on a glass overhead window, but luckily the light wasn't on or else someone would be able to just look up and see Lucia's bottom overhead. Charlotte walked over to Lucia and sat down next to her while they waited for Stone's information.

She looked over at Lucia. "What are your first thoughts about the middle circle?"

Lucia furrowed her brows. "It doesn't look that much different from above except that there is much more light. I like the environment though. It seems like life would be slow here."

"I agree," Charlotte said. "Once you go to the inner circle of the Centennial Center, you will understand what it truly means to be under the bright lights."

"I don't know if I will actually like it though," Lucia laughed.

"I'm sure you will," Charlotte assured before looking up at Stone. "Are you sure you even know where you're going?"

Stone crossed his arms. "I'm trying to remember where it is."

"Trying to remember?" Charlotte exclaimed. "As in you don't know?"

"It's near a lake," Stone replied as if that would make all her worries go away.

"How far is it from here?" Vincent asked.

"I know it's located somewhere to the west of the middle ring. It's a clear lake."

"It's likely nearby Lake Aster," Vincent offered. "The water is clear there, but it's located in the dense woods."

"That's likely where it is. The woods was a good cover for us which was why I located a new house there in the first place."

Charlotte nodded. "Okay. Sometimes I forget that the city is this big because people are so lost in their own routines that may only span a few miles."

"It's the life of efficiency everyone wants," Lucia said easily.

"One that people take for granted, and one that people can't also look further past," Charlotte agreed.

"The lake is further out than this, so we should probably travel on the ground to avoid suspicion of us going by rooftops," Vincent said.

"But we left the car that we stole back in the outer ring," Charlotte pipped in. "It was a snazzy ride. I still feel bad about leaving it there."

"The person had likely stole that car in the first place," Stone reasoned.

"That's the most likely story behind it," Lucia said.

The sun had officially started to rise then, and there was no time to waste. The sunshine was bright on her face when Vincent picked her back up, and she turned back around to see where they were going. He walked over to the ledge of the building, and the sudden height difference that was revealed to her made her stomach drop.

She looked down and saw her feet start to shake above the life that was starting to wake up below her feet as most people had begun to wake up and get ready for their jobs that start bright and early in the morning and saw how the streets below start to fill up with cars in the long lines that signaled the slow pace of the life below.

Charlotte glanced up at Vincent. "What time do you think it is now?"

He looked at his watch. "It's five fifteen."

"How long have you been running on the rooftops?"

"About four hours."

"That's insane," she said as she patted his chest and leaned her head back to look at Stone. "I call driving."

"You forget that we, vampires, don't need sleep as humans do," Vincent reminded her.

Charlotte clicked her tongue. "I forgot. But you might as well rest since I can see how much sweat is on your forehead from all the exertion you're putting forth. You should rest while you can. It'll be better than nothing."

He sent her a chilly glare which made her remember that the one man that she was infatuated with loved to run hot and cold toward her. She gave him a sarcastic smile but got a taste of her own medicine when Vincent suddenly leaped off the side of the building. Swallowing her scream, the wind frantically blew through her hair as she clutched onto him for dear life.

Smacking his shoulder hysterically as they went down, he reached up and grabbed a metal pole that was sticking out of the building which stopped all of their movement making her lurch forward, and Vincent held her waist, and she flipped her hair about off her eyes to see that they were luckily in the back alleyway versus in the front.

Vincent released his grip from the metal pole and dropped to the ground which wasn't as high as she thought it was but knew if she did the same jump, she definitely wouldn't have gotten by unharmed.

Now on flat ground, Charlotte breathed out a sigh of relief and sent a glare up at Vincent. "I swear, if I suffer from an aneurysm it's because of your antics."
