Chapter 1 - 1. First day of school

Emily's POV

It is still dark in the morning. Sun hasn't been up. a high tenor voice come from my old broken cellphone, singing "Strawberry cake..."

Oh, it's my favorite song by the xdinary heroes, a Korean band. But I am not happy to hear that song right now because this's the clock alarm I set last night.

It's 7:00. Time to get up.

I was so excited last night that I didn't fall asleep until 2:00 a.m. Although I want to sleep more, today is my first day of school at Shealther College. I want to get up early and make myself look good. I don't want to have any regrets on my first day of college.

My name is Emily, and I'm 20 years old. Today is my first day of college. Actually I enrolled at Shealther College in Hortown when I was 18 years old. It is the cradle of fashion designers around the world. This comprehensive university is home to a variety of world-famous disciplines. They include computer science, mathematics and clinical medicine in STEM; creative literature and simultaneous interpretation in liberal arts; music creation and costume design in the arts; and various majors in sports, all of which have produced world-class professionals. Therefore, it is a university to which countless students aspire.

It's a great place to study and live, with strong faculty staff, and a great learning atmosphere... There are so many advantages that it is simply impossible for anyone not to want to go to school here. But there is only one, and the most fatal disadvantage: the tuition fee is too expensive. One year of tuition plus living expenses cost nearly $300,000.

My father, Eden is the only one in the family who earns money. Since my mom failed to survive an accident when I was five, I've depended on my dad. Dad had to get up at 5:00 a.m. every morning to go to the restaurant to help with the dishes and prepare food. He was busy until 11:00 p.m. when he came home. The work hours were long, but the pay was pathetic: only $70 a night.

My father could not support me at Shealther College on that salary. So after I successfully admitted to Shealther College at age 18, I applied to the school to take two years off to work for tuition. The school, not surprisingly, agreed and was very supportive. I was probably the first student to apply for a leave of absence for such a reason, even though it is usually the children of rich and powerful people who can attend this school.

After brushing my teeth and washing up, I took out the makeup I had borrowed from my best friend Lisa, who was not supposed to be my friend because she had a reputable father in real estate and lived in a wealthy neighborhood where she didn't have to worry about living from a young age. However, her rich friends around her didn't like her because she was fat, 5 feet 4 inches but 220 pounds. Although she has beautiful long soft brown hair, her dark eyes are matched with red-rimmed glasses that make her face look more comical. Although she has her own personal outfitter, Stewal, she doesn't like his advice and prefers to follow her own feelings. In fact, her taste in dressing is so bad indeed that her rich friends around her find it too awkward to walk with her.

When I was 10 years old, after watching Lisa cry silently by herself in a park, I took the initiative to invite her to play on the swings with me. Although I am not tall, only 5 feet 2 inches, but my strength is not small. I swung her very high, she laughed very happy. Later, we often played together.

I smoothed out my mid-length brown hair, then took out Lisa's makeup bag. First I opened her Chanel eyeshadow palette and gave myself a dark orange to light brown eyeshadow, which matched my hair color properly and made my emerald green eyes look brighter. I then took out her Dior lipstick and applied it lightly, making my whole body look much more refreshed. I put on the loose white sweater I had matched last night with skinny black jeans and a pair of gray sneakers that looked a little old but clean because they had been washed so many times. Finally, I put on the lemon-scented deodorant I've been using for years.

Damn! It's already 7:30. I had to be at school at 8:00 sharp for the orientation, and Eden's breakfast was too late for me to eat.

I put on my canvas bag with my admission letter inside. I ran to the bus stop.

I finally arrived at the school gate at 7:50 a.m. I stood at the entrance and a big smile appeared on my face as I looked at the luxurious and beautiful school gate. Without having time to take out my phone and take a picture, I heard many people suddenly running out with screaming mouths, seemingly shouting someone's name. Next, I saw a black Rolls Royce Phantom VIII parked in front of the school. A man about 6 feet tall slowly walked out of the car, his blond hair neatly tidied, wearing sunglasses, wheat skin, wearing a set of black casual clothing, clad in a black trench coat, the whole person exudes a noble and cold light. A Maserati and two Ferraris followed him, and three men stepped down from the cars.

"Oh, it's the rich kids", I said inwardly. I had no interest in them because I knew we weren't in the same league.

I glanced down at my watch, I was about to be late, so I trudged through the crowd and followed the signs at the door to the orientation meeting. Fortunately, the welcome party was held in the conference hall, not far from the school entrance. Suddenly I saw a cafe not far away, and I was really hungry without breakfast. I walked over and placed an order for a hot latte.

I didn't know why a latte took so long to make. I was walking around in a hurry, I didn't want to be late on my first day in front of the whole school. I just wanted to be a good student, graduate and then be a good fashion designer.

Thank God! I finally got my hot latte at 7:59 a.m. With my coffee in hand, I walked quickly to the meeting hall.

Just as I stepped into the conference hall, a dark figure emerged. I walked too fast to stop, and the coffee in my hand spilled precisely on the other guy's clothes.

The boy was walking out with his cell phone and seemed to be on the phone. He looked down and saw some brown liquid running down his shirt. He slowly lowered his hand, holding the phone and took off his sunglasses with the other hand. I recognized it as the man who had just gotten out of the Rolls Royce at the door. He actually had the exact same pair of emerald green eyes as me and was staring at me angrily.

I could feel all the students sitting inside the conference hall staring at me, and I couldn't help but shiver. I could feel that he had an anger that he was trying to suppress.

Suddenly an old voice came from behind the man, "Are you okay, Johnathan?"

I saw an older man in a suit with a full head of white hair probably in his 50s, yet still very much alive. I remembered that I had seen this man on the school's official website-Oscar, the principal of Shealther College!

My mouth grew open, but not a word could come out.

"Mr. Katia, let me take you to your exclusive lounge to change your clothes." Principal Oscar said respectfully in front of the man. Then he said to the new students, "Students, our welcome meeting is delayed for half an hour. "

Then the principal led the man out past me. The man glared at me as he went out. I didn't look up at him, but I could feel it.

Who the hell was this man? How dare he have his own suite and be personally taken care of by the principal, who even made the people of entire college wait here for half an hour just for him?

I had a puzzled look, but I didn't know the answer.

But I knew that I was in trouble for sure.
