Chapter 14 - CHAPTER 14 THE BEGINNING

He led me to the top of a hill, where the stars shone brightly, and fireflies lit up the surroundings in a breathtaking display of beauty.

As we stood there, the evening breeze gently brushed against our faces. I knew I had to tell him before this enchanting moment went any further.

"I have to tell you something, Jay," I began nervously. But my words were abruptly interrupted when he pulled me into a tight, comforting hug.

I had just begun to speak again when another voice cut through the serene atmosphere.

"Jeremy!" The newcomer's voice broke the spell.

"Nice of you to join us, brother," Jeremy responded, and that's when I noticed the crazed look in his eyes.

Suddenly, he grabbed me by the neck, lifting me off the ground with his iron grip. Panic coursed through me as I dangled helplessly.

"Let her go," a new voice commanded.

"Oh, you shouldn't have said that, brother," Jeremy retorted with malice. Then, he released his hold, and I tumbled down the hill, my head hitting the ground with each roll.

It was almost the end of the treacherous descent when Dylan appeared, scooping me up into his arms.

My head throbbed, my ears rang, and my body ached as though a thousand hands were squeezing the life out of me. Breathing became a struggle, and I felt like I was dying.

The next thing I heard was the blaring sound of a siren. Dylan had called for help.

In the hospital, various monitors and wires were attached to my body. Dylan remained by my side, holding my hand tightly.

"What did the doctor say?" I managed to croak.

"Nothing important. I just have to keep you awake for a few more hours," he reassured me.

"Am I going to die?" I asked, my voice trembling.

"No. Don't say that. You will be fine, okay?" he said with determination.

"How did you find me?" I inquired.

"I told you Jeremy was dangerous. You should have just stayed away from him," he replied.

"Jeremy is the only boy who has ever shown an interest in me, the only one who made me feel special and wanted. I know it sounds pathetic," I confessed.

"No, you're not. I understand you," he assured me.

"Why do you avoid me and run from your feelings? I know you feel it too," I said, searching his eyes.

"I want you—all of you. Your body, your heart, your blood. I don't know if I can control that part of me. I don't want to hurt you. I love you," he admitted.

With the little energy I could muster, I kissed him.

I pulled away and whispered, "I love you." His smile was like a ray of sunshine, making him even more beautiful.

I began to drift in and out of consciousness, my strength waning. His voice became distant.

I knew I was dying. Perhaps now, I could join my mom. My heart raced, and the last thing I heard was a loud, continuous beeping sound before the world around me faded to black.
