Chapter 16 - CHAPTER 2 Introduction

Caytln had taken a moment to sit me down and share what little she knew about me.

"My name is Jessica Williams, and I'm eighteen," I repeated to myself, trying to grasp this newfound identity. When I inquired about my parents, Caytln's face grew solemn. She revealed that my mother had passed away, but she avoided telling me the reason behind my father's imprisonment. "Some things are best forgotten," she cryptically remarked.

"What about the Dylan guy you mentioned?" I probed further, intrigued by the mysterious figure in my fragmented memory.

"I can't be certain about much, but I know he was deeply in love with you," Caytln replied. "He broke countless rules to help you, bringing you here despite the doctor's grim prognosis. He had unwavering faith that you'd wake up one day."

Now, I was eager to meet this Dylan guy.

Caytln guided me downstairs, where she introduced me to the group at the bar. There was Jake, distinguished by his blue hair and silver eyes, and Mike, with his green eyes and black hair. Among them was Melinda, Caytln's twin sister. When I inquired about their parents, their laughter filled the room, leaving me puzzled. Yet, Dylan remained elusive.

I took a sip of the red wine they were drinking, finding it neither sweet nor bitter, but it had a soothing quality. My cups of wine soon blurred together, and I began to lose my balance, feeling increasingly drowsy. The effects of the alcohol were unmistakable—I was getting drunk.

Caytln kindly offered to escort me to my room, but in my inebriated state, I pushed her away. With an exaggerated motion, I flung my hand into the air and then released it as if I had tossed something away.

"Huh?" Caytln's puzzled expression greeted my antics.

"I took your kindness and threw it away!" I declared with a tipsy giggle.

Caytln huffed and walked past me, clearly annoyed. "She's angry," I observed with a mischievous smile.

"I AM SO ALIVE!" I joyfully shouted to no one in particular.

However, a hushed conversation among my newfound friends caught my attention. They seemed concerned and whispered urgently. I wanted to know what they were discussing.

"What are you guys talking about? I wanna know!" I insisted.

In response, Jake lifted me and carried me to my room. I couldn't help but blurt out, "You're cute," but he simply ignored me, leaving the room and closing the door behind him.
