Ding!
Before anything could even happen. The door bell rang. This broke the trance between Jaki and I and we immediately move away from each other.
Back to sitting awkwardly on the couch.
"So..."
"You should probably get that right?"
I mumble to Jaki while staring at a random corner in the living room, avoiding any eye contact.
"Yeah."
"I think its my mum."
"Oh, I see."
I do vaguely recall that Jaki mentioned there was a chance her mum might come home during our study session if her works end early.
The door opens and a tall and slender figure walks in. I can definitely see where Jaki gets her good looks from.
Jaki's mother has her hair tied into a bun while dressed in office attire. I can see some makeup on her face but it is very minimal.
And to be fair when you look that good you probably don't even need to use make up at all.
"Oh hi! You must be Sandy?"
I was caught off guard by the warm greeting from Jaki's mum since at first glance she exuded the same serious energy that Jaki has.
"Y-yeah."
"Its nice to finally meet you."
"Nice to meet you too."
Jaki's mother comes over and pulls me in a tight hug. Maybe a little bit too tight.
"Oh sorry did I hug you too tightly! Sorry sorry! I was just really excited to see you in the flesh."
"Especially ever since Jaki mentioned you to me"
!?
Now I am definitely caught off guard. Does Jaki talk about me to her mum? What would she even talk about? I wonder!
My curiosity is killing me right now.
"Mum!!! What are you talking about!"
Jaki shouts out from the other side of the room. She seems to be slightly embarrassed. Though that only raises my curiosity more.
"Haha okay okay. Sorry Jaki."
"Anyway are you all hungry after all that studying?"
Suddenly my stomach grumbles after Jaki's mum mentions food.
Ahh! This is so embarrassing! Why does my stomach grumble now of all times.
"Haha well, I think that is quite the definitive answer!"
"Haha yeah sorry about that."
"Don't be! My stomach grumbles all the time when I'm hungry too."
Jaki giggles at that response.
"Yep, its true."
"Anyway I hope everyone here is a fan of pizza!"
* * *
Making your own food is great but sometimes its nice to just be lazy and eat take out.
And that is exactly how I feel right now.
Pizza is just such a guilty pleasure especially after a long day of study.
"So how was todays study session?"
"Mmm, it was really good. Jaki helped me with a lot of math problems that I was stuck on. I feel like I made more progress today than I had this entire semester."
"Oh that's really nice!"
Jaki's mum shot a quick wink towards Jaki.
"Guess all your preparation paid off!"
"W-what are you talking about?!"
Jaki blurted out while looking slightly panicked and embarrassed.
What are they talking about?
Once again my curiosity is piqued.
"Hehehe, anyway wanna see some baby pics of Jaki?"
"Mum!!!"
"Ooo, I would love to!"
Despite Jaki's protest we spend the rest of dinner with Jaki's mum showing off baby pictures of Jaki that she had saved on her phone.
And gee golly were they cute. Something about a younger baby version of Jaki just melts my heart.
Though it was also cute to see the always stoic Jaki getting all red faced and embarrassed over baby pictures of herself.

After I finished eating I went back home. Though not without many good bye hugs from Jaki's mum. She sure is one very kind and passionate lady.
I walk back home leisurely thinking back on everything that happened today. Today sure was a good day. I got to hang out lots with Jaki. Actually made progress with my study. Played some good and intense rounds of Mario Kart on the switch with Jaki.
Heck I even got to meet Jaki's mum and see baby pictures of Jaki.
Man I was so close to winning the last race if Jaki didn't resort to tickling. Though I guess we didn't really care that much about the race at that point. It became more of a tickling match than a racing one.
And after that ...
My face reddens immediately as I recall the memory of Jaki being on top of me and us just staring deeply at each other in that state.
I wonder what would have happened if the door bell didn't ring.
My head steams up as I think about the possibilities.
Arghhh!
Too much thinking is bad!
I clear my head. Focusing on my surrounding instead.
The moon was round and full tonight, it looks very pretty.
The moon light also bounces off beautifully onto the street and side walks.
The wind blows gently. Just light enough to remind you of its existence.
It was the perfect way to end off today after all the the chaos.
