"It's not that they were intentionally abandoned. For some things, like the bronze cannons auctioned today, the original collector has died, and his son doesn't know how much these things inside are actually worth.
There's also the situation where the original owner disappears or dies, and then no one claims the container.
In fact, the most common situation is that after the container is sent here, the cargo owner, for various reasons, doesn't immediately pick up the stuff and later goes bankrupt, moves away, or leaves for other reasons, making it not worth claiming."
