Chapter 1 - The birthday

I know so well how finding a man in Nigeria is, I mean a very honest and trustworthy one.

I'm 30 and single, and by the way I have a son who's 10 years old.

Tayo's father was a man from a one night stand who is married with 2 kids, I mean who sleeps with a married man with 2 kids.

Let's go back to 10 years ago how I met Tayo's father.

My eyes met with the bright and hot sun on a Sunday morning, I was still on bed deliberating if I wanted to go to church or sleep all day and after all it's my birthday today, I could just sleep all day but then again have to be in church to give my thanksgiving

"What a wonderful day" I said as I stood up from my 4 and a half bed which I placed in my sitting room.

Last night was a busy one for me, I had to read for my forthcoming examination which should take place tomorrow, wait tomorrow?? Oh shit tomorrow?

I quickly ran to the bathroom and had a quick shower came out within 2 minutes, I wasn't even sure of what to wear.

"This yellow dress looks good on me" I said placing the dress on my body looking at the wall size mirror in my room "no, the blue is better"

" let me just go with the black"

It was 10:30am already, I knew I was late for church already but I still had to go

I did my makeup and installed my frontal hair

I was ready to move but then it was around 11:50

I picked up my phone to call a Bikeman "hello Yinka, abeg come carry me for house abeg"

I hanged up after my sentence

He arrived around sooner than I expected

"Sister Moyo you fine well well today o" he said smiling at me

"Thank you, na church I Dey go abeg"

I was about to sit on the bike when I heard a funny sound and I decided to look back and then I noticed my dress was torn

"Chai, what is all this na" I said in frustration

"Wo Yinka Dey go abeg, I go Dey go church next week"

"You still fit enter inside change ham na"

"I know but time has gone, thank you ehn"

"Okay, no wahala na" he started his bike and drove off while I entered into my apartment with anger

I put off my dress and placed it on the chair in the sitting room, walked down to the kitchen to fix something to eat

"I no fit kill myself abeg" I said to myself as I put on the gas cooker to warm the rice my flat mate made for us last night, I was about dishing out my food when my phone rang, I had to run down to the sitting room to get it

"Hello ma" it was my mummy and I already knew what she was about to say

"Ka ro Moyo, o de o ku ojo ibi" she said (good morning Moyo happy birthday to you)

"Eshey Mami" I replied remembering that I put something on fire

I ran down to the kitchen to put off the gas

"What of daddy?"

"He has gone to church, you know how your father is when it comes to church matter"

"So why didn't you go to church?" I asked as I put a spoon full of rice in my mouth

"I should be asking you" she responded

"I woke up late and my dress got ripped on my way"

"Okay oo. I just wanted to greet you, my regards to your friend"

"Okay Mami, I will deliver" we both said our good byes and hanged up the call

I dished out my food and went to have my sit in the sitting room where my bed was.

Few minutes after eating I was feeling sleepy, I laid down on my bed and was about to sleep when I had a knock on the door

"Who's there?" I asked as I stood up heading towards the door

"Mide" the voice said

I opened the door " welcome mide"

"Ah, Moyo why didn't you come to church?" Mide asked and I pointed at my dress which was laying on the chair

"Your cloth disappointed" she laughed

"Omo,I had to tell Yinka to go, I was pissed" I said trying to turn on the television

"How birthday wan be na" mide asked as she flipped her shoes off

"I don't know omo iyami, na to just sleep for house" I said. Mide and I have been friends since childhood but I cannot say we are best of friends, we are family friends to each other. I'm the only child of my parent but mide has an older brother jide.

Jide and I were once a thing but you know what happens dating a family friend, it didn't end well because of mide, she never wanted us to be together or should I say she wouldn't want us together because she had no idea I once dated her brother.

Jide works as a bank manager in Lagos and he calls me time to time just to check up on me but I could tell he is still in love with me and at times he talks about we getting back together "if you can't be man enough to tell your sister about us why should I come back to you?" That has always been my reply to him

"Jide sent me money" I told mide

"Is plenty o" she said as she pulled out her phone from her LV hand bag which she just got last weekend

"I was thinking we should go to Ebevande tonight, we should call tope and few babes" I said

"That's dope, I need to get some sleep first"

"Wetin you go chop?"

"The rice wey I cook yesterday still Dey kitchen, I go chop ham now before I go sleep"

"Alright then"

Mide walked down to the kitchen to dish out her food

"I don warm ham o" I told her

"I don sabi na, the pot hot" she replied

She dished out her food, mide is a bit of a food person, she eats a lot and I mean a lot

"Mummy sends her regards"

"Oh, how is she doing?" She asked right from across the kitchen

"Fine jare, I think I would be going home immediately after our examinations" I told her

"Alright"

At this point you could tell Mide and I ain't close, she could have asked why i decided to leave school early but she didn't

Around 6:00pm we called in for a cab to come pick us up at home for the evening club party we planned for, Unfortunately the other girls we wanted to meet up with were all out of the picture, they all wanted to read for tomorrow's exam

Fifteen minutes later, the driver pulled into the drive of the club. We paid him and stepped out of the car, we both walked down to the reception area as we surveyed the area.

"E be like say this place full today" Mide whispered

I looked at her in disbelief, I mean the receptionist would think we were hook up babes if she heard her.

We walked to the bar and sat close to an empty table.

"This place is nice" I said as I pulled down my dress to feel more comfortable

"Really nice" Mide replied

We placed order and once it was around 9pm it was getting more cluby, yeah I know that word isn't even in the dictionary but you know what I mean, big boys came in, ladies that came for their daily allowance also came in.

Mide and I decided to blend in with the vibe, we danced, took snaps, had few tequila shots.

I was there dancing with Mide when I noticed this tall dark guy, with his appearance he looked 25. This guy was hot, I mean very hot. He kept glaring at me, our eyes met a couple of times and I knew he wanted to talk to me.

I headed to the counter to have a bottle of water when I noticed he was already next to me.

"You look really nice in this dress" he said
