Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Under Watch

"That's the teleportation portal huh?" Josh asked, looking at the large portal before them.

The Academy was located on an island, so they either had to reach it by flight or ship. But there was a problem. The problem was that the academy was protected by force fields and other security measures, making it impossible to get in.

Due to this, there was only one option left. Teleportation. They had to pass a teleportation portal, which was suitable for transporting numerous people to a particular location at a time. As opposed to the teleportation watch which could only teleport one person at a time.

"Yeah." Cherry nodded.

Sergeant Trent clapped his hands together and shouted, "everyone! Get in line! Two lines please!"

The students began moving towards the portal and made two lines.

"Hey! No pushing!" Trent hollered, as a boy pushed a boy standing in front of him.

"Some people are just really stupid or have no brain. It's not like it matters who passes the portal first." Zoey shook her head in disgust.

"Well, everyone has a brain but not everyone has brain cells." Josh chuckled.

"Right." Zoey nodded.

"How about you get in front sis?" Cherry suggested as they reached the line.

Zoey nodded and got in the line.

Cherry pushed Josh into the line and got behind him, "as it should be." Cheery grinned.

Zoey turned around and narrowed her eyes at her twin sister. Zoey merely stuck out her tongue whilst giggling.

"I'm still wondering how the both of you can be so opposite despite being twins." Josh said.

"We complement each other," Cherry smiled, "I'm a bright ray of sunshine and she's the pessimistic one."

"I'm just more logical." Zoey said.

"And wearing black clothes every single day is considered logical?" Cherry teased Zoey about her choice of clothing.

"I feel comfortable wearing the colour black. Bright clothes make my eyes bleed." Zoey defended her fashion choice.

"You need a little bit of colour in your life if you ask me." Josh said to Zoey.

"People often think I am unhappy. But they are mistaken." Zoey shook her head.

"You can't blame them, can you? You look, dead sis." Cheery sighed.

"I choose to keep a bleak expression. It's easy to read your thoughts when you place them on your face like a signboard." Zoey said.

"That, in addition to your choice of colour, makes you look creepy." Josh chuckled.

Zoey turned around and looked into Josh's eyes, "Do you think I look creepy?"

She had never given a thought about what people thought about her. They were all weak and fragile-minded to her.

Strength was all that mattered to her. Exposing her feelings through her facial expression and body language was what she considered weak.

Right from when she was a little girl, she studied the people around her and discovered that she could read people by just understanding their facial expressions and body language.

From then, she decided to keep a bleak expression and stiff body language.

The only person that had ever seen her break character was her best friend she was her only friend and doubled as her twin sister Cherry.

Cheery was...a Cherry person. She made lots of friends and was loved by everyone who knew her well enough.

She in stark contrast was just too lazy to make friends. Holding a conversation that wasn't intelligent bored her. To her, it was a waste of time. She would rather invest her time in reading books and training.

She had wondered if she would ever fall in love. All the guys she had met in the past looked at her like she was some piece of meat, and couldn't even hold a decent conversation.

This boy called Josh managed to pique her interest. Maybe, just maybe, he would become her first male friend. And if he proved himself, they would take it to the next level.

"I think you're kinda bleak, but absolutely not creepy," Josh chuckled, "I think you're interesting, and just need to be taught how to express yourself without coming off as creepy."

Although this black-haired girl would come off as scary and creepy to others. To Josh, she was a girl with an interesting personality.

She was just his kind of person. Someone with a viewpoint that varied from the norm. She would surely be an interesting person to talk to.

Zoey read Josh's facial expression and body language, "You're not lying."

"Why would I lie to you?" Josh chuckled.

"To soothe my ego so you can get on my good side." Zoey replied.

"I believe in honesty." Josh said, "I would never lie to a person just to make them happy, I would rather tell the truth then it's up to them to decide the action to take."

Josh believed that everyone should be told the truth no matter how harsh it would sound. How would you expect a person to grow or realise they are wrong when you don't point it out for them?

"You're an interesting one." Zoey nodded.

"I'm just a guy who likes doing the right thing." Josh chuckled.

"Why are you crying, Cherry?" Zoey saw that her sister was crying, but was convinced that she was faking it.

"It-it's just, you both look so good together it's almost like a fairy tale." Cherry replied between sobs.

Josh chuckled at Cherry's antics.

"Whatever you do just make sure I don't get my hand on any sharp objects today." Zoey warned Cherry.

"Although you might not get your hands on any sharp object, you might get your hands on a big and hard one." Cherry grinned.

Josh smiled at Cherry's naughty comment.

"I will kill you someday." Zoey sighed and passed through the teleportation portal.

"You two should've gone together." Cherry complained with a cute annoyed expression on her face.

"What stops us from going together?" Josh smirked.

"Yeah! She'll get jealous and realise she likes you." Cherry grabbed Josh's hand.

Josh shook his head and walked through the portal.

The environment changed and they were suddenly transported into what seemed like a school gymnasium.

"There she is!" Cherry spotted Zoey standing at the back of one of the two lines that were in front of them.

"Let's go." Cherry said, dragging Josh along.

"I can walk on my own you know?" Josh chuckled.

"Do I look like I care?" Cherry smiled and continued walking to Zoey.

"Hey, sis!" Cheery got in front of Zoey.

"Can you just be quiet for 2 seconds?" Zoey snapped at Cherry.

"No can do." Cherry giggled.

"You'll drive me crazy." Zoey sighed.

"That's his job." Cherry looked over Zoey's shoulder at Josh.

Zoey sighed, exhausted.

"You're relentless aren't you Cherry." Josh didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

"Never give up!" Cherry giggled.

When a few more students joined them, they had reached about thirty. The portal behind them closed.

A man who was in the front of them said, "as you all should know, the students you are currently with will become your classmates," he paused to let the information sink in, "I am going to be handing you your watches which is to never for any reason leave your wrist. Am I understood?"

"Yes sir!" The students hollered in unison.

The man beckoned on the student at the front of the line on to come him, and the exercise commenced.

After a few minutes,  it had finally gotten to Cherry's turn to take her watch.

Cherry walked up to the man and wore the watch, her; name, class, magic affinities, her house was blank.

"You know what to do right?" The man handing out the watch asked.

"Yep." Cherry nodded.

She clicked on the blank space and was provided with two options to choose from. She clicked on the water magic option, and the previously blank house bar now read 'Water house'.

Her dorm number appeared, and the letter E was written on the watch.

"As expected of a descendant of the White family. Your power is already that of an E-rank Hunter." The man handing out the watch praised.

The watch was not just any ordinary watch. It could measure the power level of the wearer. And Cherry's power level was equivalent to that of an E-rank hunter.

Hunters were awakened who either joined guilds or moved solo. They usually took missions, that when completed, would get rewards from their guilds.

Solo hunters on the other hand could sell their proceeds from killing beasts to guilds. The only downside was that they would not get good offers like the ones actual guild members would.

"Thanks." Cherry thanked him for the compliment and headed to where the students who had received their watches stood waiting.

Zoey went next.

"D-rank, as expected." The man nodded on seeing Cherry's power level.

"Thank you." Zoey said and walked to where those who had taken their watches were.

It was finally Josh's turn.

"Wait a minute." The man frowned as he looked at his tablet, "You're an un-awakened how come you have an affinity?"

"I just got it and I'm just as surprised as you are when I first got it." Josh shrugged.

"Are you a vampire?" The man queried as he noticed Josh's blood magic affinity.

"I'm as human as anyone." Josh smiled.

"We'll be keeping an eye on you." The man scribbled something on his tablet.

"The more you look, the less you'll see." Josh muttered under his breath.
