Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Roommates

"I am Professor Jackson and I am going to be your new homeroom teacher." A man that looked to be in his early thirties with brown hair said.

"And just so you know, you're all class C students. So you'd better start getting to know each other better." Jackson added.

Naturally, the F-rank mages began talking to the D-rank mages, while the F-rank mages got closer to the D-rank warriors. The unawakened just stood there awkwardly.

"I already have a cute friend." Cherry held Josh's hand tightly.

"You flatter me." Josh chuckled.

Never in his wildest dreams would he have imagined that he would be talking to two beautiful girls, let alone, girls in their class. Finally, he would start making friends.

"Now, you all follow me, I am going to give you a tour around the academy." Jackson announced and began leading the students.

They were led through the school gymnasium, and shown the various equipment and devices for training.

"I've never played 'Magic online'." Josh said, as they passed a room full of virtual reality helmets.

"Oh, it's a really fun game. It's really realistic the hits feel so real." Cherry said.

"It's a very educative game. You can practice your skills and spells in it without tiring out." Zoey stated her observation.

"I can't wait to try it." Josh said.

The school usually provided each room of students with three virtual reality headsets.

'Speaking of rooms, I wonder who my new roommates will be.' Josh thought.

He desperately hoped that they would be nice and not some bullies, or he would really leave this institution with blood on his hands.

He was tired of being a weak loser. Now that he had the power to decide his fate. Anyone who tried to harm him would get the same treatment from him. No mercy.

They were led to the homeroom classes, potions classes, and forge masters classes amongst others.

"Ever fancied a career as a potions master?" Zoey asked Josh.

Potions were liquids that possessed magical capabilities. A mage who consumed a mana potion would experience an increase in his mana, while a warrior who took a strength potion would experience an increase in strength.

Potions had multiple uses. Potions master's were usually geniuses in Herbology, as the major component of potions was herbs.

"I'm pretty smart, so I should be able to catch up with Herbology and potions." Josh replied.

He had never fancied a career as a scientist that much since his wish to create a serum that made awakened unable to use mana died down.

Now, what he was interested in, was forge master and Runesmastery. He wanted to be able to make his weapons and equipment.

This would also be a money-making venture for him, as he could hunt beasts for their core and other materials, and then use them to create weapons and equipment without needing to spend a dime.

This didn't mean that he wouldn't focus on other courses. He wanted to be a jack of all trades, a one-man army.

"I find potions and Herbology intriguing." Zoey said.

"Well, biology was never really my strong point." Josh shrugged.

They were then led to the school's greenhouses.

"Is that a fire heart herb?" Josh asked, seeing a fiery red herb that was put in a pot of lava.

"It is." Zoey nodded in reply.

"Cool." Josh gawked at the herb.

He was unapologetically a nerd, he breezed through all the topics they would be teaching in first-year and he got a lot of knowledge beforehand.

The fire heart herb is a herb that increases the destructive capabilities of one's fire magic affinity. It did this by approximately 20%.

'That's crazy expensive.' Josh sighed.

He didn't have the funds to get one of these yet. So he could only work hard so he would be able to afford it.

They then proceeded to the school grounds.

"Isn't that a herd of Golden sheep?" A thin boy said, seeing the herd of sheep with golden fleece.

"It is. Just brought them in." A tall bulky man with a scar across his face replied as he ran his hand through the fleece of one of the sheep.

"This is your beast studies teacher, professor Tig." Jackson introduced him to the class.

"You can call me wicked Tig." Gig smiled sinisterly.

"Imagine having a degenerate for a teacher." Cherry whispered to Josh.

"Jack my old friend. I see this is your new set of students?" Tug asked Jackson.

"They are." Jackson nodded, "I am just giving them a tour around the school."

"Alright then see you later." Tig turned around to face his business.

Jackson led them to the school library.

"As you all should know, the first floor is for first years, the second is for second years, while the third is for staff." Jackson said.

Josh was only mildly interested in the library. He had a really good memory so he would easily catch up in class.

But he would still need the library if he wanted to dig deeper into certain topics, so he made a mental note of the location of the library.

The group moved again and finally they were in front of four huge buildings painted in five different colours; red, blue, brown and yellow.

Josh noticed two other significantly smaller buildings coloured white and black.

"You have all been put in houses, in order of your affinities. The unawakened have also been randomly put in houses." Jackson explained.

'That's just sending them to their death.' Josh thought.

With this arrangement, the unawakened would be subjected to a lot of bullying by the awakened.

"Remember the first two floors are for girls while the other two are for boys." Jackson said, so they wouldn't get confused when finding their rooms.

The students were then handed a piece of paper on which their room number was written.

"Room 69 huh, I wonder who my roommate will be." Josh muttered.

"Your Room number is 69?" Cherry grinned.

"It is what it is." Josh chuckled.

"What about you two?" Josh asked the twins.

"We got the same room, 7." Cherry replied, "I wonder who our last roommate will be."

"It'd better not be someone as annoying as you or I'll run mad." Zoey said.

The thought of sharing a room with two Cherrys sent shivers down her spine.

"You're mean." Cherry pouted.

"Oh shut up." Zoey rolled her eyes.

"I just hope my roommates are nice at least." Josh said.

"If any of them gives you trouble you can always count on me," Cherry patted her cheat cutely, "I'll break the bones of anyone who bullies my sister's future boyfriend."

"Thanks." Josh chuckled.

He was not one to bother others with his problems. Even if he had their backing, he would rather solve his problems his own way.

He had his pride to protect.

"You can all go into your rooms and rest. There will be no lessons today. You can also explore the school if you want, but make sure not to do anything considered criminal." Jackson announced.

"See you guys later." Josh said to the twins.

"Bye." Cherry waved at Josh enthusiastically.

Josh smiled at Zoey and returned what seemed like a smile, but looked weird on her face.

Josh chuckled and went his way.

Josh finally arrived at a room with the number 69 written on the door. He proceeded to knock on the door.

The door opened, revealing a short boy with below-average looks and a freckled face.

"I'm Joshua Zhane your new roommate." Josh stretched his hand for a handshake smiling.

The boy shook his hand, "C-come on in, the names Billy, B-Billy Graham." The boy ushered him in, stuttering.

"Thanks." Josh smiled at him and walked into the room.

Billy was probably unawakened.

"I guess it's time for me to barge in on the conversation, the name is Oliver Frank." a tall handsome boy with black spiky hair approached them with a jovial expression on his face.

"Hey Oliver, so I guess I could go drop my luggage now," Hunter said, seeing a bed that looked untouched and approached it.

"We were about to head outside to get to know ourselves a little more, care to join?" Oliver asked.

"Sure." Josh smiled, it's not like I have anything to do.

"Alright then. Let's go." Oliver said, then turned to Billy, "Are you coming?"

"No, I need to sleep." Billy yawned.

Oliver turned to Josh, "Guess it's just me and you then."

"Guess so." Josh shrugged.

"Let's get going." Oliver walked out of the room, and Josh followed.

They proceeded out of the firehouse building.

"So, tell me about you." Oliver said to Josh.

"There's not really much to know about me." Josh shrugged.

"You seem like a really interesting guy." Oliver said.

Josh chuckled, "I'm pretty boring really."

"I disagree." Oliver smiled.

He liked this guy. he had prayed fervently that he'd not be put in the same room with a boring weirdo

"Well, for starters, I'm an orphan."
