Soon Iroh, Zuko, and the travelers left; Suki promised Naruto she would come to Ba Sing Se with the rest of her team soon. As the Avatar group soared through the skies on Appa's back, they gazed down at the vast landscape below.
The trees, rivers, and mountains passed by in a blur as they headed toward their ultimate destination - the great city of Ba Sing Se. However, their peaceful journey was abruptly interrupted as they spotted a colossal machine in the distance.
It was a massive worm-like apparatus with the Fire Emblem emblazoned on its front. The group exchanged worried glances, wondering what this ominous contraption could possibly be for. Sokka, always the pragmatist, voiced everyone's concerns with a simple but ominous statement: "That can't be good."
As Appa soared through the skies, Aang and his friends couldn't wait to stop the machine. As the majestic creature descended. With a graceful leap, Naruto was the first to jump from Appa's back, his skills allowing him to land softly on uneven terrain. As the rest of the gang followed suit, Toph's earthbending abilities allowed her to land beside Naruto on the brick-made floor with a resounding thud, her confidence, and strength on full display.
As Naruto stood at the foot of the towering Outer Wall of Ba Sing Se, he marveled at its impressive height of 40 meters, which was a testament to the city's unmatched fortification. The wall was constructed entirely out of sturdy bricks and fortified with other minerals that ensured its strength and durability.
As he gazed outwards from the wall's outer side, Naruto was greeted with a vast expanse of endless desert that extended as far as the eye could see. The barren landscape was an eerie contrast to the lush green fields that lay within the city walls.
While inside the wall, Naruto was immersed in a world of vibrant greenery, spanning for perhaps a hundred kilometers. The expansive land was dotted with countless farmhouses, each separated by a kilometer of fertile soil that was used for cultivating a variety of crops. The outer wall of Ba Sing Se was not only an impenetrable barrier that protected the city from external threats but also a testament to the city's ingenuity and resourcefulness, as they had created a thriving agricultural community within the safety of their walls.
As Naruto gazed upon the expanse of lush, green fields that stretched out before him, he couldn't help but feel awestruck by the sheer magnitude of Ba Sing Se, the legendary city that stood beyond. The city was said to house a population of at least one million, if not more, and Naruto could feel the weight of that number as he stood there, taking it all in. The fields were a mere prelude to the grandeur that lay ahead.
As Naruto stood atop the towering 40-meter wall, he couldn't help but feel the cold autumn breeze rush against his face, sending shivers down his spine. The wind was stronger up here, unobstructed by any buildings or trees, and it made his hair dance wildly like flames in the wind. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, feeling the crisp air fill his lungs and invigorate his senses. The world felt alive and vibrant, with the leaves rustling beneath his feet and the distant sounds of the machine below.
The deafening noise of the giant fire nation machinery was rapidly approaching their location despite being on top of the wall. Even Toph raised an inquisitive eyebrow at the sound, indicating its alarming and ominous nature. The group immediately turned in the direction of the approaching noise. "Sounds loud!" Toph commented, her voice tinged with a mix of skepticism and concern.
They suddenly heard the sound of heavy footsteps echoing through the walls. They quickly turned around to see an Earth Bending soldier marching toward them, his uniform adorned with medals of honor. The soldier's sturdy build and serious expression immediately made the group feel intimidated and unsure of what to expect. As the soldier approached them, he looked at Aang and Naruto with a sense of uncertainty and asked, "What are you doing here? This place is not for civilians."
With his heart racing and his mind focused, Aang stepped forward, taking a deep breath before standing tall in front of his companions.
"I'm the Avatar," he declared with a commanding voice, his eyes sparkling with determination. "I need to talk with whoever is in charge." As he spoke, Momo perched on his shoulder, showing his unwavering support, while Appa stood guard, his massive frame a testament to the group's strength and power. The earthbender soldier who had been standing guard on the wall slowly turned to face Aang, his eyes narrowing as he sized up the young Avatar.
But as Aang held his gaze, the soldier seemed to recognize the power and authority that emanated from him, and he bowed his head in a small sign of respect. "Of course, Avatar," the soldier replied, motioning for them to follow him. "I will take you to see our leader immediately."
It didn't take long for their keen eyes to spot a small settlement perched on top of the wall, surrounded by fifty stalwart soldiers, all of them adorned in the distinguished Earth Nation uniform. Naruto's sharp mind quickly noted the presence of several wagons, loaded to the brim with massive, round rocks stationed near the edge of the wall. Each wagon was meticulously guarded by a skilled Earthbending soldier, ready to unleash their formidable power at the first sign of danger.
As they walked inside the small and unassuming outpost, the first thing that caught their attention was the room's simplicity. It was just a square room with a roof made of dried palm fronds that provided a semblance of shelter from the relentless sun outside. However, the room's saving grace was the large open window that stretched from one end of the wall to the other, offering an unobstructed view of the vast desert landscape beyond the Wall. The view was breathtakingly beautiful, with the sun setting in the distance, casting a warm orange glow across the sand dunes. The wind blew softly, carrying with it the fine grains of sand that danced in the air like tiny fairies. The silence of the room was only broken by the occasional sound of the wind, making it feel like the perfect place for introspection and reflection.
In the middle where an imposing desk stood, seemingly commanding the attention of all who entered. Behind the desk, an old man was seated, dressed in the dignified uniform of the Earth Nation, which was accentuated by a striking green cape draped over his shoulders. Despite his regal appearance, the man's age was unmistakable, his wrinkled face and weathered hands betraying years of experience and wisdom. As Naruto's gaze traveled upwards, he couldn't help but notice the man's peculiar mustache, which jutted out from his face at an almost comical angle.
The General's voice was dripping with arrogance as he spoke, his cocky smile revealing his confidence in his abilities. He stood up from his chair, which was made entirely of rocks, and extended his hand in greeting. "Ahh, the Avatar, it's an honor to have you here," the General Earthbender spoke with a hint of contempt in his voice. Despite the General's haughtiness, Aang acknowledged him with a nod of his own. Aang had come to offer his assistance with the Drill, a massive machine designed to penetrate the impenetrable walls of Ba Sing Se, the last remaining stronghold of the Earth Kingdom. Before Aang could utter a single word, the General raised his hand to silence him.
The General's face was beaming with a stupid grin as he explained to the Avatar team, "I appreciate your willingness to help, but you're not needed." The team's expressions turned skeptical as they arched their eyebrows in disbelief at the General's statement.
Naruto, the curious and observant member of the team, couldn't help but question, "You don't?" His voice carried a hint of surprise, making it clear that he had heard it correctly. Even Sokka, with his quizzical expression, seemed to be in the same mind as Naruto, wondering why the General would say such a thing.
"As I said, we are the Earth Nation, and with our collective strength, we can bring an end to this mechanical monstrosity that threatens to breach the outer wall of our beloved kingdom." With each word he spoke, the general's hand moved to his long pointy beard, his fingers running through the wiry strands in a thoughtful manner as if he was already envisioning the victory that was within their grasp.
"What about the Dragon of The West? He managed to get inside," Toph's voice echoed across the room, laced with curiosity and a hint of challenge. Her face was directed at the general, unyielding and determined as ever, as she stomped her foot on the floor with a force that caused the entire room to shake slightly. The sound reverberated off the walls, a clear indication of her frustration and impatience with the situation.
As soon as the question was posed, the stoic figure of the general seemed to stiffen, his posture becoming more rigid, his eyes narrowing as he contemplated his response. After a beat, his face softened slightly as he began to speak. "Well," he began, his voice measured and deliberate. "He only managed to breach the outer wall before we were able to swiftly force him out." Despite his confident tone, there was a hint of nervousness in his voice, betraying a fear that perhaps his words weren't enough to satisfy the inquisitive glances of his audience. As he finished speaking, he absentmindedly rubbed the top of his head, a gesture that did little to alleviate the palpable tension in the air. Naruto and Sokka exchanged a look of annoyance, silently communicating their lack of faith in the general's leadership.
"Don't worry. Everything is under control," the general added, his voice calm and reassuring as he turned around and walked outside of the outpost. He strolled towards the edge of the wall, his eyes fixed on the horizon where the worm-looking drill was still moving in the distance, gradually getting closer to the Wall. Despite the looming danger, the general's demeanor remained composed, and he radiated an air of confidence that put the soldiers at ease, except for the Avatar Team.
As the general stood atop the wall, he gazed down at the Terra Team, who were gathered at the structure's base, their stances firm and unwavering. With a sense of confidence in his voice, he declared that they were, without a doubt, one of the most skilled teams in the entire Earth Nation, capable of overcoming any obstacle that lay before them. As he pointed towards them, the twenty Earthbenders stood at attention, ready to tackle the task at hand- the elimination of the imposing drill that was slowly moving towards the wall.
"Terra Team. I like that name." Sokka commented; this earned an eye roll from the others.
"I doubt they will be able to stop it," Naruto commented; his words earned a glare from the general. Despite this, Katara found herself nodding in agreement with Naruto's assessment, her mind racing with concern for the safety of their world. Toph, who had been quietly observing the conversation, walked up to stand beside her favorite blonde, adding her own weight to the discussion.
As Toph walked towards Naruto, she couldn't help but feel a sense of nervousness and excitement. Despite no longer being on top of Appa, she found herself drawn to Naruto, and as she reached out to hold his arm, she was surprised when he returned the gesture by grasping her hand. This unexpected show of affection sent shivers down Toph's spine, causing her body to tremble with anticipation. As she felt the butterflies in her belly fluttering wildly, she couldn't help but wonder what this gesture meant and why it affected her so deeply.
Toph quickly turned her head away, hoping to hide her blushing cheeks from him. Despite her efforts, she couldn't help the smile that crept up on her, betraying her true feelings. As she tried to control the heat that spread on her beautiful cheeks, Toph couldn't help but wonder if Naruto had noticed her reaction and, if so, what he thought about it.
As Naruto stood overlooking the vast and arid terrain, he saw a team of skilled Earthbenders charging toward the Giant Drill of the Fire Nation, their bodies pulsing with the energy of their element. The sound of their stomping feet and the clashing of rocks echoed across the plains as they approached their target with fierce determination. Naruto could see the glint of determination in their eyes as they used their earthbending abilities to summon massive boulders from beneath the ground, hurling them with incredible force toward the twenty moving vehicles that guarded the drill. In a matter of seconds, three of the vehicles had been reduced to scrap metal, their wheels pointing up to the sky like helpless beetles.
As the deafening sound of the Fire Nation's colossal drill echoed through the desert, the Earthbenders sprang into action, their eyes blazing with determination. With a fierce cry, they summoned the power of the earth beneath their feet, using their bending skills to yank towering columns of rock and soil from the ground.
With sweat pouring down their faces, they hurled the massive pillars at the unstoppable Drill, hoping to bring it to a grinding halt. But even as the columns smashed into the Drill's metal shell, causing sparks to fly in all directions, the Earthbenders knew their efforts might be in vain. The relentless machine kept churning forward, its massive drill bit tearing through the earth like a hot knife through butter. As the columns of earth crumbled down around them, the weary Earthbenders knew that they had to come up with a new plan - and fast.
As the Earthbenders struggled to defend their land from the approaching menace, they attempted to use their immense strength to erect additional columns to impede the relentless advance of the colossal drill. However, amidst the chaos of clashing elements and flying debris, one brave Earthbender was struck with a sharp, deadly projectile that sliced through his flesh like a hot knife through butter. With a sickening thud, the man fell to the ground, his hands frantically clutching at the gaping wound in his neck, as a crimson tide of blood gushed forth from his lifeless body, staining his once-pristine uniform a deep, dark red.
The others quickly bent the ground to form shields in front of them as multiple small arrows struck them. The arrows rained down on them, striking some of the warriors with deadly precision. A few unlucky ones were not quick enough to form their defenses, and the small arrows found their mark, piercing through their necks, eyes, and skulls. The once brave fighters now lay silent and still on the ground, their lifeless bodies a testament to the brutal nature of warfare.
With a graceful leap, Ty Lee found herself in the center of a group of skilled Earth Benders, her eyes fixed on her opponents with a determined glint in them. Drawing on her years of rigorous training in the art of chi-blocking, she unleashed a flurry of lightning-fast strikes, her fists connecting with the bodies of her foes with a resounding impact that echoed through the air. The Earth Benders, taken off guard by her sudden attack, tried to counter with their own bending techniques, but it was too late.
Ty Lee's precise movements had disrupted their chi flow, causing their limbs to go limp and their bodies to crumple to the ground in defeat. Though they were still alive, they were unable to move or fight back.
With a mischievous grin on her face, Ty Lee surveyed the defeated soldiers lying prone on the ground. Her acrobatic prowess had enabled her to take them down swiftly and efficiently, leaving them immobile and helpless. Meanwhile, Mai, her fellow warrior, began to prepare to deliver the killing blow. She knew that these soldiers were no longer of any use, and there was no point in keeping them alive. As she notched her arrows and prepared to take aim, Ty Lee sprang into action, darting in front of her and stopping her in her tracks. "Wait!" she exclaimed.
"What are you doing?" Ty Lee questioned with a slightly accusing tone, her eyes piercing through Mai as she observed her suspicious behavior. Mai, feeling defensive, arched an eyebrow, not understanding what her friend's problem was. She had always been the kind of person who kept to herself and did things her own way, but Ty Lee seemed to have an issue with it.
"Getting rid of them, obviously," Mai answered casually as if the answer was quite obvious to everyone. Ty Lee furrowed a brow, and Mai could tell her friend wasn't pleased with her answer.
As Ty Lee was about to open her mouth to speak, she and her companion were suddenly interrupted by a loud rumble. Turning around quickly, they saw a man who was skillfully manipulating the earth beneath him, moving at an incredible speed while carrying a wounded soldier away from the battlefield. The man's movements were graceful yet powerful, and it was evident that he was a skilled earthbender.
Mai's tone was laced with annoyance as she glared at Ty Lee, who stood behind her with a look of resentment. "This is all your fault," Mai said sharply. "Thanks to your recklessness, he will now report to the others about our abilities." She let out an exasperated sigh as she put her knives back in her holster. Ty Lee's gaze intensified, but Mai didn't bother to acknowledge her, knowing that arguing with her would only make matters worse.
Back at Team Avatar, they watched as Terra Team was quickly defeated one by one; As Naruto observed the devastating scene before him, his eyes narrowed with concern and determination. The team had fallen into a deadly trap, with some members already lying lifeless on the ground while others were being crushed by the moving vehicles. The ones who managed to escape capture were the only survivors, and they were in desperate need of medical attention.
Two men lay on the ground, one struggling to catch his breath and the other looking deathly pale, his skin slick with sweat. Without hesitating, Katara summoned her Waterbending skills to help the injured men. She knelt down beside the gasping man and began to focus her energy, using the power of water to soothe his ragged breathing and ease his pain. Meanwhile, the other man leaned heavily against the wall, his eyes flickering with gratitude as he watched Katara work her magic.
"What happened?" General Sung's voice boomed across the room, his eyes scanning the exhausted soldier's face for any signs of distress or injury. The man, despite barely catching his breath, stood up straight and saluted respectfully, his fist touching his heart while the other hand touched the ground with the index and middle finger, a symbol of the Earth nation's unwavering commitment to protect and defend their homeland, even if it meant sacrificing their lives in the process. The General's eyes softened as he took in the soldier's unwavering dedication to their cause, knowing that it was soldiers like him who would ultimately lead them to victory in this brutal war against their enemies.
The soldier explained how they were defeated and how he was able to slip away when the enemy wasn't looking; As he spoke, the general's face grew increasingly pale, his eyes fixed on the distant horizon where the drill from the Fire Nation was getting closer and closer to the Wall. The fate of their entire kingdom rested on their ability to defend this Wall, and the general knew they were running out of time.
As Katara tended to the injured soldier writhing in agony, she couldn't help but notice the familiar techniques used on him. "The girl must be Ty Lee," she muttered to herself in realization. With a deep breath, she began to explain to the soldier what had happened. "She knows the human body from the inside," Katara explained, her voice filled with concern. "She blocked your chi points - that's why you can't earthbend right now." The soldier winced at the thought of being unable to use his bending abilities for a few hours, but Katara reassured him that he would be back to his normal self soon enough.
"That's it," Sokka suddenly shouted, startling everyone around him; Katara arched an eyebrow at him with a frown for shouting so loudly.
Naruto was staring at Sokka with a look of bewilderment. "What has gotten into you, Boomerang head?" he questioned with a hint of amusement, curious about Sokka's sudden outburst. Sokka had a wide grin and ignored Naruto's nickname.
Sokka stood at the front of the group, his eyes shining with excitement as he explained his plan. "That's how we will destroy it," he declared confidently, "from the inside. It will be hard to do it from the outside, but from inside, we can easily destroy it." He paused, surveying the faces of his companions for any signs of doubt or hesitation. Naruto, standing off to the side with his arms crossed, looked on with a hint of surprise in his eyes.
"Well, it seems for once you're good at something," Naruto teased with a wide grin; Sokka groaned loudly, but Aang nodded in agreement with Sokka's plan, as did Katara and Toph.
"Alright, everyone. We will deal with that Drill." Naruto commanded, motioning for everyone to follow him; Toph was the first to follow him behind.
As Aang and Toph reached the edge of the towering wall, they gazed down at the daunting drop below, unfazed by the dizzying height. With a confident nod, they began to work their earthbending magic, summoning boulders and shaping the ground beneath their feet to create a sturdy platform that extended over the very edge of the wall.
With a final flourish, Aang and Toph finished their creation, a broad and solid bridge that spanned the gap between the wall and the ground below. Without hesitation, the team sprang into action, leaping off the wall and onto the platform, their hearts racing with the thrill of the descent. As they hurtled towards the ground, they could see their destination looming in the distance - a massive Drill that burrowed into the earth like a colossal worm. As they landed with a thud on the dusty ground, the team wasted no time sprinting towards their goal, their eyes fixed on the looming monstrosity that threatened to destroy everything in its path.
As they sprinted towards the colossal drill, Naruto's voice boomed with authority as he bellowed orders to his comrades, "I will use my Woodbending to slow it down. Toph, my dear, create some smoke for us!" With a determined nod, Toph brought her foot down with a resounding thud, causing the earth to tremble and quake. The ground around the drill began to shift and crumble under her mastery, kicking up a thick cloud of yellow smoke that blanketed the area and obscured their movements.
Naruto led his team through the dense and acrid smoke that billowed around them, obscuring their vision and making it hard to breathe. Despite the challenging conditions, Naruto pressed on, the deafening noise that grew louder with every step they took.
As they neared the source of the commotion, the sound morphed into a deafening roar that shook the earth beneath their feet. That's when Toph, the master earthbender, sprang into action.
With a quick motion of her arms, Toph commanded the earth to do her bidding, creating a gaping hole in the ground that could shield them from danger. "Everyone into the hole," she commanded, her voice ringing with authority. Without hesitation, Naruto and his companions leaped into the hole, seeking refuge from the impending danger. Toph was the last one to jump, her nimble body propelling her into the hole seconds before she sealed it shut with another swift movement of her hands.
The darkness seemed to engulf them entirely, and Naruto strained his ears to hear anything beyond the deafening silence. Suddenly, a faint sound emerged from above, growing louder and more ominous with each passing second; Naruto knew it was the sound of the drill, and he tensed up in anticipation.
"It's so dark here. I can't see a thing," Sokka complained, his voice echoing throughout the hole.
"Oh no, what a nightmare," Toph said sarcastically; Naruto chuckled beside her as Sokka quickly apologized.
Emerging from the small hole, the group found themselves staring up at the colossal metal structure of the giant drill. The ground shook beneath their feet as it whirred and hummed with ominous energy. As they looked around frantically, searching for an entrance, Aang's sharp eyes caught sight of a small opening in the side of the machine. "There," he exclaimed, pointing towards the gap before leaping onto the drill with the agility of a trained acrobat. Sokka and Katara followed in quick succession, their hearts pounding with excitement and fear as they scrambled up the twisting metal behemoth. With each step, the sounds of the drill grew louder, drowning out all other noise and filling their ears with a deafening roar.
While his friends went inside to deal with it, Toph stood outside, her feet planted firmly on the ground as she focused her energy on her earth-bending abilities. With a fierce determination in her eyes, she exerted all her strength to slow down the menacing drill that threatened to destroy everything in its path. Meanwhile, Naruto slammed his open palms on the earth, sending a powerful shockwave that reverberated across the vast expanse of land. As he concentrated his energy, he could feel the presence of every living thing around him, and soon, he began to use his wood-bending skills to grow towering trees around the area.
With a flick of his wrist, the trees surrounding the area sprang to life, their branches lashing out like whips at the machines guarding the giant drill. The metal beasts were no match for the ancient power of the forest, as the trees wrapped themselves around them, lifting them up into the air like toys before crushing them with a slow, deliberate force. The screams of the men inside were drowned out by the sound of wood splintering and metal grinding against the bark.
"Wood Dragon," Naruto whispered; in front of the drill from the fire nation; suddenly, the ground beneath began to shake, and a deafening roar filled the air. A giant long-necked dragon made entirely of wood emerged from the earth, its emerald green scales glistening in the sunlight. With a powerful flap of its wings, the Wood Dragon took flight, soaring towards the giant drill.
Naruto swiftly slammed his chi-infused hands onto the ground, causing a resounding crack to echo through the battlefield. The force of his impact created a spider web-like pattern of fractures in the earth, causing Toph to raise an eyebrow in surprise and disbelief. Naruto was not known to possess such incredible power, and his newfound abilities left his opponent amazed and perplexed.
He can earthbend! Since when? Toph thought to herself but decided to ignore it for now.
The giant drill from the fire nation rumbled forward, its massive gears turning with a deafening clang as it approached the wall of the Earth Kingdom. As it neared the wall, several large trees suddenly rushed towards it, their branches outstretched and leaves rustling in the wind. With a sense of urgency, the drill's operators tried to keep the gears moving, but the trees were too powerful. They wrapped themselves around the gears, blocking their movement.
Naruto clenched his teeth in concentration. His hands, once relaxed, now tightened into fists as he struggled to maintain his focus. He had never attempted to create so many trees simultaneously before, and the strain was beginning to show.
But Naruto was not one to give up easily. He took a deep breath, closing his eyes for just a moment before opening them once more. At that moment, he felt a surge of chi coursing through his veins, empowering him to create something truly spectacular.
With a swift movement of his hands, the ground began to tremble beneath him as the trees around him began to grow at an astonishing rate. But Naruto was not content to stop there. He closed his eyes once more, channeling his chi into the earth, pulling forth a seemingly endless supply of wood. And then, with a sudden burst of energy, Naruto began to sculpt the wood into a magnificent creature - a long-necked dragon, its scales gleaming in the sunlight.
The dragon's long, sinuous body rippled with power as he charged toward the machine. His movements were fluid and graceful. As he neared the drill, the dragon twisted and turned, his body coiling around the metal monstrosity like a serpent constricting its prey. The dragon's wooden scales groaned and creaked as he tightened his grip, determined to stop the drill from wreaking havoc on the Earth nation. With each passing moment, the dragon's strength grew, and he squeezed the drill with all his might.
Its keen eyes caught sight of an imposing tower looming above a gargantuan drill from the fiery nation. Perched atop the tower was a vast chamber with walls made entirely of glass, which the dragon guessed was the captain's quarters. Naruto could almost picture the captain bellowing orders with his mouth wide open, and a fierce determination overtook him. In a flash, the wooden dragon hurtled towards the tower and slammed its jaws into the glass chamber. The room shattered into a million pieces, raining down on the drill below and causing a thunderous explosion that shook the ground for miles around.
Toph's voice was firm as she called out to Naruto, halting him in his tracks. "Stop, that's enough. You're tired," she said, her tone laced with concern as she watched him gasp for air. Naruto's chest heaved with each breath; his body pushed to its limits after creating so many trees.
Despite his exhaustion, he refused to give up, determined to push through the pain. Toph took a step forward, her hand reaching out to rest on Naruto's shoulder in a gesture of support. She hoped her touch would be enough to convince him to take a break, to give his weary muscles a chance to recover. But Naruto was stubborn, his eyes locked on his goal, unwilling to let his fatigue defeat him.
"If I stop, the trees won't be able to hold the drill for much longer," Naruto quickly said, dismissing her words. With a deep breath, he ignored the pleas of Toph and focused all his energy on the earth beneath his feet. Summoning all his strength, Naruto raised his hands high above his head and brought them crashing down onto the ground.
The earth shuddered beneath him, and a chi surge flowed through his body. From the ground, a tiny sapling sprouted forth, reaching toward the sky with all its might. With a fierce determination in his eyes, Naruto poured every ounce of his energy into the growing tree, willing it to grow faster and stronger than ever before. And to his amazement, the tree responded, growing at an unprecedented rate until it towered over the drill, a majestic colossus of wood and leaves.
Without any hesitation, he swiftly commanded the giant tree to uproot itself and wrap its massive trunk around the drill. The tree, as if obediently following its master's command, coiled itself around the drill, slowly and surely bringing its movement to a halt. Naruto could feel the tree's weight gradually intensifying as it crushed the colossal drill with each passing moment. The deafening sound of the drill, which once echoed throughout the land, was now replaced by the peaceful rustling of leaves, as Naruto's quick thinking and resourcefulness had saved the land from further destruction.
The sound of silence enveloped the land, drowning out every other noise. For what seemed like an eternity, the only thing that could be heard was the sound of their breathing as they waited for the giant drill to move again.
A bead of sweat dripped down Toph's forehead, her heart racing with anticipation. But after what felt like an eternity, the deafening noise of the drill finally stopped, the echoes fading away into nothingness. Toph let out a sigh of relief, her hand coming to rest on Naruto's shoulder. She could feel him trembling as he tried to catch his breath, his hands shaking like jelly. Hunger gnawed at his stomach, but he was too exhausted to even think about food. As they stood there, side by side, surrounded by the deafening silence, Toph couldn't help but feel a sense of pride. They had done it
"You did it," Toph praised him with a bright smile, the victory bringing a sense of relief and satisfaction to the both of them. As they basked in the glory of their achievement, their moment of triumph was short-lived when Toph's senses suddenly heightened, causing her to tense up and listen attentively to the faint sounds of footsteps that echoed from behind them.
"Someone is coming!" Her senses were sharp, so she quickly formed a boulder with her bending abilities and held it up in time to block an attack from behind. To her surprise, the attack came from none other than Azula, the Fire Nation princess with terrifying blue flames. Azula's face twisted into a scowl when she saw that her attack had been thwarted, but it quickly morphed into a mischievous smirk when her eyes landed on Naruto standing beside Toph.
"Your friends are quite annoying. The Avatar and his idiots destroyed the supporting braces, the drill has collapsed on itself, oh, and you killed the captain." Azula spoke with no hint of sadness whatsoever; if anything, she sounded delighted.
"Well, Princess, long time no see," Naruto spoke uneasily, trying to catch his breath; Azula narrowed her golden eyes towards him, pursing her lips into a thin line.
"Stand back. Your drill is destroyed," With a swift motion, Toph spoke with confidence and authority, commanding Azula to take a step back and stay away. Her body language was strong as she moved her arms and legs, forming her stance and standing protectively in front of Naruto. Meanwhile, Naruto was still gasping for air, trying to catch his breath, and was grateful for Toph's protection.
"Ohh, I don't care about the drill. I never believed it would even work in the first place." Azula appeared unimpressed by Toph's display and nonchalantly waved off the matter of the destroyed drill. Her attention quickly shifted to Naruto, and for the first time, her gaze was one of hunger and joy, indicating her interest in him and her desire to get closer.
With a menacing glare in her eyes, Azula stood before Toph, her hands ablaze with blue flames as she spoke with a voice that dripped with cruel intention, "But if I get him, he's more valuable than the Avatar. I will take Naruto after I kill you." Toph could feel the heat emanating from Azula's flames as she braced herself for the impending battle.
"Once I attack, get us underground." With a sense of urgency, he shoved Toph behind him to protect her from Azula's menacing blue flames. With a deep breath, he summoned his power and unleashed the black flames toward Azula's blue flames. The two flames collided with each other, creating a deafening explosion that sent shockwaves through the surrounding area. Naruto could feel the heat emanating from the flames, causing the nearby stone to melt slightly.
Azula's adrenaline-fueled instincts kicked in as she leaped backward with lightning speed, her eyes widening in horror as she felt the intense heat of the black flames licking at her heels. Despite her best efforts to escape the inferno, her arms were still singed by the intense heat, leaving her wincing in pain and struggling to catch her breath. As she surveyed the damage, Azula couldn't help but marvel at the sheer power of the flames.
As the flames dissipated into thin air, Azula scanned the area around her with her sharp eyes, hoping to catch a glimpse of Naruto and the Earth Bending girl; the latter had been nothing but an annoying thorn in her side since the beginning of her quest. However, to her dismay, they had vanished from her sight, leaving no trace behind. Azula's mind raced as she tried to figure out their next move; she was certain that they had gone underground to avoid her wrath, but the thought of chasing them down and confronting them was quickly dismissed since she knew that she lacked the necessary earthbending skills to do so.
