Chereads / Amplify (A RWBY Story) / Chapter 57 - Departure

Chapter 57 - Departure

Four days have passed since Ryder discovered Telepathy and during that time, he's been practicing with it to get a better grasp on how to use it. He surprised Tai with it one day and it freaked him out. Oh, he got a good laugh that day. He's used his Telepathy to keep in touch with Ironwood, not that he really needed to. There wasn't much to discuss. Other than that, he's been trying to master Teleportation. It's not going well. Almost got hit by a car once. He was back in the Emerald Forest all alone as he was thinking of how he could tackle Teleportation properly.

He's tried all kinds of different things, and they all failed. Well, kinda, he did teleport to another location it was just uncontrollable. As he was in deep thought, he got an idea. What if he borrowed a concept from Instant Transmission? Might be a long shot but it was worth a try. From what he knows about the technique is that he needs to lock onto an energy and feeling that being's location.

At least that's what he believes, don't blame him, blame the wiki. So, Ryder prepares for the teleportation by placing his index and middle finger on his forehead. He closes his eyes and concentrates. He recognizes the feeling of Aura's thanks to his magic giving him the ability to sense it like Ki. Though he isn't too good at sensing people with Aura since they don't have Magic. But he gives it a shot.

As he concentrates, he searches for Qrow. But as he waited, he couldn't lock onto Qrow's aura. Most likely because he isn't good at sensing Aura. He lowers his fingers as he knew it was pointless to try. He decides to call it for the day. He activates his magic and blasts off towards the sky before changing course and flying towards Patch.

[Unknown Location, Grimm Lands]

Within the land of the Grimm, Frost walked through the fortress. He was heading towards the main room where someone is waiting for him. Frost spends most of his time training his Evolutionary Semblance to get stronger. Cinder is still in the process of recovering from her wounds she sustained during the Fall of Beacon. Frost wanted to know more about this Ryder Falcone and Kairos Hawthorne that Emerald and Mercury told him about.

If it's true and there are two people with Evolutionary Semblances besides himself, things could get complicated for him and his allies. He reached the room he's needed in and pushes the doors open before he walks into the room. Across the room in her seat is the one and only Salem. The Grimm Queen sat patiently waiting for Frost. When she saw him enter a smile came to her face.

"Frost." Salem greets. "How's Cinder?"

"She's recovering, albeit slowly." Frost reports as he walked around the table and towards Salem.

"She'll recover. I'll make sure of it." Salem said.

Frost reaches Salem's throne and simply stood before her. She then notices that something is bothering Frost.

"Frost, what's bothering you?" Salem asks, trying to show concern.

But Frost knew it wasn't genuine. He isn't dumb.

"Two people other than me have Evolutionary Semblances." Frost answered. "I can't help but hold an ounce of concern."

"I'm aware of these other Evolutionary Semblance users thanks to you telling me ahead of time. But as they are now, they are no doubt inexperienced and not properly trained." Salem said.

"One of them defeated that Grimm Knight you sent according to Emerald and Mercury. Ryder Falcone is his name." Frost brought up.

"Really now?" Salem asked. "It seems my judgement could be wrong. But my view stands."

"Salem-"

"Listen, Frost." Salem said, sternly. "While I appreciate your concern. It is misplaced. Everything is going according to plan. All I need you to do is be patient."

Frost went to argue but stopped as he knew it was pointless.

"That is all for now. You may leave." Salem informed.

Frost nods and turned on his heel and walked to the exit. While he did, Salem thought about what Frost said. Two others with Evolutionary Semblances, no doubt on Ozpin's side. She knows that Ozpin wouldn't waste the opportunity to snag two Evolutionary Semblance users. Which means that this Ryder Falcone and the other Evolutionary Semblance user will become a problem.

[Rose-Xiao Long House, Patch]

Ryder lands outside of the Rose-Xiao Long house and walks inside. Once inside, he notices Yang sitting at the couch looking at something. Curiously, he walked around the couch.

"What you looking a-" Ryder said but stopped.

His eyes widened as he saw that Yang was looking at his satchel and the Dragon Balls were visible. Yang held one of them. Yang looked at him with wonder and awe at their design. Hearing Ryder's voice, she turned her head to him with a smile but saw his shocked and paranoid look and grew concerned and confused. She placed the Dragon Ball in her hand on the table in front of the couch and stood up.

"Ryder? Is everything alright?" Yang asked.

Tai walked into the room from the kitchen and when he saw the Dragon Balls and Ryder's face, he reacted.

"Oh no." Tai whispered.

Tai was worried how Ryder would react. Ryder must've left the satchel on the coffee table without thinking about it. Yang walked over to Ryder but stopped when he decided to talk.

"You shouldn't have seen those." Ryder said, nervousness coating his tone.

"Why? What are they?" Yang asked.

Ryder kept his mouth shut. He didn't want to tell her because if he did, he imagines she would want to help him. Something he doesn't want. If she helps him, she could get hurt again and maybe even be killed just like Pyrrha. Yang can tell he wasn't going to tell her but she wanted to know.

"Tell me." Yang asked.

Ryder remained silent.

"Tell me!" Yang asked, a bit harshly this time.

"Yang!" Tai said sternly.

Yang looked at her father.

"Drop it. This is a touchy subject." Tai said.

Ryder though decides otherwise. He pushes past his paranoia. Maybe he can at least tell her what they are. Ryder walked past Yang and picked up the One Star Dragon Ball and then turned to Yang.

"These...." He hesitates. "Are Dragon Balls."

"Dragon Balls?" Yang asked with a raised brow.

"Long story short, they're wishing orbs." Ryder explained very briefly. "Once you collect them all, it summons a great Dragon that will grant you any wish of your desire."

Yang didn't look like she was believing it.

"Yeah, and I'm a magical lady." Yang said jokingly while doubting him.

But as Yang looked at Ryder's eyes, she could tell he was not lying. He was dead serious and it shocked Yang. Her eyes widen as she then looked at the Dragon Ball in her best friend's hand.

"Wait, wait. So, wish orbs are real?" Yang asked.

Ryder nods, although hesitantly.

"What are you doing with them?" Yang asked.

"I'm going to use them to save the world. To prevent any further catastrophe from happening ever again." Ryder said with determination.

"So that's where you've been." Yang mumbled.

Ryder heard that and nods at her. He then turned to the satchel and puts the orbs back in the bag before putting it over his head and resting the strap on his shoulder.

"There are three orbs remaining and I have to find them." Ryder said.

Yang realizes what he's doing.

"Your leaving? Again?" Yang asked, sounding shocked.

"I must. If I don't find them..." Ryder said, before stopping himself from mentioning Salem.

"So, you return after being away for months, only to leave again!?" Yang asked, sounding angry.

"You don't understand and will not understand." Ryder said, rather harshly as he glared at her.

It shocked Yang to see him glare at her like that. It even shocked Tai. Tai didn't like it. Ryder was changing, and not for the better.

"Ryder..." Tai said, only to be cut off.

"Don't even try to stop me, Tai." Ryder said. "You know why I have to do this."

Tai went to argue but he refrained from it. He knew why he was doing this. To stop Salem. But he hated what it was doing to him. Yang huffed before turning on her heel and heading to the stairs. She stormed up the stairs leaving Ryder and Tai alone. Ryder sighs before making his way to the front door. As he grabbed the doorknob, he heard Tai.

"Ryder." Tai said before the words got stuck in his throat.

Ryder lightly turned his head to look over his shoulder. A silence followed before Tai spoke once more.

"Whatever you do. Don't go too far. There are people who care for you. Don't push them away." Tai said.

Ryder remained silent.

"I really don't want to young man I see as the son I never had to fall to far." Tai said.

Ryder's eyes widened when he heard that. Tai turns around and walked back into the kitchen to continue to do what he was originally doing. Ryder watched him off with wide eyes. Tai saw him as a son? He looked down at the floor in thought. He then opened the door and walked outside. Once outside, he activates his magic and blasts off into the skies to continue his quest for the Dragon Balls. From her window, Yang watched him fly away. Anger plastering her face before concern consumed it.
