#Chapter57
Caroline waited at the office pacing back and forth, eyes flicking to me and away. I couldn’t understand her nervousness, she wasn’t the one about to march into this so-called mythical council and beg for her life. She kept checking her phone constantly. When I asked what was wrong, she just said she was waiting for her husband to come back. I wondered what her husband was doing that had her so on edge, when Josiah finally did call, she all but ran to the elevator watching the numbers above the stainless-steel doors till it dinged on our floor.
Josiah stepped out of the elevator, an annoyed look etched on his face. Was he bringing bad news? My stomach dropped. What had the council decided? I couldn't hear the words he and his wife exchanged, they were too hushed. He glanced my way.
Caroline's eyes were narrowed, her fists clenched at her sides. /"Tobias isn’t going to like this. I can’t believe that evil wretch./" His mother seethed.
