Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Breach

~3:54 am~

Adrian's eyes stung as he watched the clock change from one minute to another. Even though he wanted to sleep he couldn't. No matter how hard he tried to close his eyes. Nothing would change the mood of the room. The room felt… eerie. He couldn't tell if it was because of Anry sleeping next to him or if it was the shadows that danced so weirdly outside the curtains, but something was making the room change around him. Time seemed to pass as sweat slowly lowered himself on his forehead. He didn't know why. The room was about sixty two degrees. Why was he sweating? Was he nervous? Scared? What was wrong? Out the corner of his eye, he could've sworn he'd seen the door move. Wanting to make sure he wasn't going crazy, he instantly shook Anry from her assumably nice slumber. When he first moved her body, she barely moved.

"Anry. get up." Her lateness caused him to seethe those words out of his mouth. If there was anything going on in the halls it was stupid for him to go alone. If it was a hired person, that would make him being alone even dumber. "Anry, for the love of God. Get up!" His words were met back with a groan.

"What is it? The sun is not even up yet." Even though she had many questions. None of them were answered as Adrian pulled her out of bed into the hallway. As he moved, he would quickly dart his eyes back and forth of each hallway.

"We need to hurry."

"Why?" Her voice was tense as she spoke. Though, it was useless to the other. Adrian still continues to drag her around. He didn't know if it was a random servant trying to kill him or a hired assassin. All he knew was something, no someone was trying to get into their room.

"Anry." He pulled him close to her as he spoke. "We're going to the other wing alright. Do not say a word." He watched Anry give a slight nod. Normally he wouldn't even think of her, but to many people dying was way too much of a red flag in the castle. He needed them how they are. The castle. He needed their trust, their obedience. And most importantly, their silence. Adrian made sure their steps made no sound as they moved. Did they already know where they were? Surely they had to be trained for this scenario, right? As he moved, he looked over every hall and stair. He couldn't, no he would make sure no one would get close to them. He had to. The hair on his neck slowly raised as he looked back to make sure the other was keeping pace.

"Why are we going over there?" Her voice broke the silence that Adrian spent the entire time trying to build. "Tell me so I know." He stops walking to take a deep breath in. Was he supposed to tell her? Her freaking out would ruin everything, but her knowing would make her cooperate so much better.

"I swear I thought someone broke in." Even though he whispered it only resulted in a loud display of shock through Anry. but to his surprise. She didn't freak out. The only thing she did was gasp and immediately turn back into normal.

"Okay," She moved him aside to grab a hold of the swords that decorated the hallway. "Then why are we running?" Adrian still wore a confused look on his face. Was she planning to fight the person? Clearly they'd be advanced in the damn art. Still he didn't want to leave her to die alone. He reaches his arms to grab ahold of the rusted sword that laid adjacent with hers not so long ago.

"Since we're being stupid today." He gives what could only be assumed as a smile as Anry gives him an angered look. He was right though. What they were doing was suicide. As they stood in the hall that connected to the wings. They made sure to keep their eyes on each possible passage. After a while… nothing changed. Not even the air around them. After a while, Adrian could feel his eyelids get heavier and heavier. The boy's eyes slowly began to shut, thinking it was okay to let loose a little. As Adrian's eyes lid touched his water line, the slight feeling grazed itself across his shoulder. Feeling his adrenaline touch the roof, causing him to quickly swing the swords towards every direction.

"Hey! What the hell!" The sound of alarm caused Angry to quickly spin herself around.

"What's wrong?" Adrian didn't answer. He was too focused on the frightened boy who sat on the ground. He was on the skinnier side. His face was littered with freckles and hair was a dark brown. He was wearing royal clothing, but Adrian never saw his face. Who was he? More importantly, why was he here?

"I," The boy, still keeping contact with Adrian, began to slowly stand up. His voice was shaky, but still spoke in a low tone. "I don't mean any harm. "Yet Adrian didn't budge. He knew someone else was here, but why? While silence echoed from the three, The newly made king took time to study his face. He looked at his eyes, hair. His eyes darted over the way the ends of his lips curled at the end. The way his shoulders slightly hung forward of his body. It's almost… reminded him of someone. At first Adrian couldn't believe it, he died years ago. For his son to be here now is… something.

"Follow us." Adrian waved his hand to officiate the command. While he spoke with a straight face, Anry's was disconfigurated. He reached out to grab ahold of his wife's arm and continued to walk.

"Why is he following us? Do we know him?" She spoke low to keep the peace, but by the sound of the child behind him perking up. He'd heard it all.

"Hell yeah we do." He gave a sideways glance towards him and spoke even lower. "He's Juan's son."
